Red Ranger Came Calling
Bring your merchant coupons downtown for prizes and refreshment. Santa will come to town, and he and Mrs. Claus will take â€œwishâ€™â€™ letters and pass out candy canes. The open house will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, and the tree lighting at Ober Park will be around 6 p.m. The main highway will be closed near town from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Berkeley Breathed reads from his â€œguaranteed trueâ€? Christmas tale. The evening includes a Red Ranger costume contest Breathed will judge, and heâ€™ll answer questions from the audience. The evening is a benefit for the Vashon Community Care Center. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Open Space for Arts & Community, 18870 103rd Ave. S.W.
The Nutcracker Ballet
The Blue Heron Dance troupe performs the holiday classic. 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6.
Vashon Island Chorale performs its winter concert. Works include â€œGloriaâ€? by Antonio Vivaldi and â€œAve Maria.â€? 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Bethel Church, 14736 S.W. Bethel Lane.
All-Island Middle School Holiday Art & Craft Sale Handmade, affordable gifts and art will be available for purchase from Island students in sixth- through eighth-grade. 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
Holiday Art Studio Tour
Island artists open their studios to show visitors how they work and enable them to purchase a variety of art. Maps are available at Island businesses. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6 and 12 and 13.
Christmas Broadcast, Dessert Extravaganza & Cookie Exchange
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will host a Christmas broadcast with music from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir & Orchestra and Christmas messages by church leaders from Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Bring your favorite dessert to share and cookies to partake in a Christmas cookie exchange. 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at 9330 S.W. 204th St.

The Islandâ€™s children know Christmas is truly coming when Santa and Mrs. Claus come to town the first Friday in December. what they want for Christmas. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5; 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Santaâ€™s cottage in the Village Green. Boy Scout Tree Sale
Boy Scouts will sell a variety of Christmas trees at the lot next to US Bank. 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6 and 12 and 13.
Kids learn about the celebration of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. Enjoy traditional Jewish games, stories and songs with Aser Hashash. For ages 4 and older. 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Vashon Library.

Sound Food and The Little House will host this event, which will include a craft, entertainment and a light breakfast. 9 to 11 a.m. at Sound Food.
Ebenezer Rock â€” A Musical
Vashon Island Youth Chorus performs the lively musical based on Dickensâ€™ â€œA Christmas Carol.â€? 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Blue Heron.
