If you have attended the Native American show at Frontier Town in the last 40 years, chances are you have seen John “Laughing Wolf” Moore performing traditional dances. His father, Red Bird, was among the first natives to perform at Frontier Town. Many of Red Bird’s fellow performers left because they felt that the Wild West show encouraged negative stereotypes of Native Americans. However, Red Bird wanted to dispel these false ideas. This is a calling that Laughing Wolf and his sister, Aimee “Screaming Eagle” Adams, have continued. Visiting the Indian show at Frontier Town includes beautiful, traditional costumes and exciting dances, but it’s also a chance for the Moores to educate audiences about their culture. “I want them to realize that we’re just like them,” says Laughing Wolf. “We are just like anyone else who holds their culture and practices.” Both Karson and Moore spent their childhoods at this amazing theme park, and it’s the audiences that keep them at Frontier Town year after year. Guests may come thinking they’ll see a ho-hum reenactment, but they walk away smiling and laughing after seeing exciting performances. “We get to show them a little bit of history,” says Karson, “where this country came from.” It’s the combination of educating guests and thrilling them that makes the Wild West Show at Frontier Town a must-do while in Ocean City.
