CHESAPEAKE VISITOR’S GUIDE 2017

DID YOU

fun facts

KNOW? With a population of almost 350, the Great Dismal Swamp has one of the largest black bear populations on the Eastern Seaboard.

The amber color of the Northwest River and Lake Drummond comes from tannins, which keep water fresher for long periods of time, making Chesapeake’s waterways some of the purest in the world.

There are only two natural lakes in the entire state of Virginia. One of them is Lake Drummond in the Great Dismal Swamp, right here in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake is only a short drive from other popular tourist destinations, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk and the Outer Banks.

Chesapeake has over 22 miles of wave and windfree waters. The conditions are perfect for family canoeing or kayaking.

When the Bergey Family of Bergey’s Breadbasket Bakery and More moved to Chesapeake from Pennsylvania in 1910 it wasn’t by car or by train . . . they traveled in a horse-drawn, covered wagon.

Looking for a unique gift? With over fifty independent vendors at 3 Little Black Birds, you’re sure to find the perfect one-of-a-kind creation.

Chesapeake is a great place for anglers. Here you can catch, trout, bass, bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, white perch and sunfish. The crabbing is equally fine.

At Wicker’s Crab Pot, the owners go out and catch the food they serve every day.
