Op Art

Fashion always bring new interpretations by looking at the past. With the bold and illusional op art booming in the mid-60s, monochrome geometric patterns are once again back in trend. The modern “print-on-print styling method is a playful and chic-looking way to carry these bold checkers, layering with a subtle sweater, this look can be worn both during school days, over a casual meeting and even as a daily wear.

Cocoon

One of my personal highlighted winter outer-silhouettes are the Cocoon jackets. Slightly bulky and loose sleeves, find your most favourable colour and you will look trendy and chic even with the most basic and simple apparels worn underneath.

Pattern Crash

Wearing prints can be tricky yet fun. With the first look going towards the “safe” side of playing prints by layering a subtle sweater on top to cover the majority of it, this one plays with the contrast and connection between two different prints / patterns. As your level of accepting “print-on-print” extends, try finding two separate prints and connect the look through the little similar details within. Sometimes, an interesting aesthetic appeal will then be form, just like how these black and white does.

Suit Printing

The contemporary way of wearing suit in matching prints on both blazers and bottoms has been heating up the streets especially during winter. Seeing that a lot from Topshop and asos, how about giving a little twist to the style concept? Transforming from suit set to bodysuit, the wrapped around illusional print brings out the curves and figure, to prevent having the outfit looks like something for Halloween or costumewear, layering the prints with a chunky coat will hold the look together. And besides, I quite enjoy the mysterious feeling of having the prints being exposed and hidden in the same time.

What’s New? Happy to know that the always cute and sweet MONKI has opened another boutique in Hong Kong, it’s located in one of its most famous and crowded shopping district — Tsim Sha Tsui. The store went for a colourful and contemporary style with a playful twist of Monki’s 3.0 design concept, also known as “The Sea of Scallops”, illusional bounded with mirrors everywhere, reaching from the walls and up to the ceilings, there are also shimmery lily lamps and carousels make shopping at Monki an experience. With Monki media friends including artists and fashion bloggers joining the opening party, super cool DJ and model Eve Special in her cute Monki outfit was there too, mixing great music near the windows, she together with the colourful Monki creatures smiling from oversized bubbles at the store front surely has drawn loads of attention and curiosity to the pedestrians and TST shoppers.
