A College Preparatory School with a Military Tradition速

Cadets start off as good followers. They become great leaders.

For nearly a century our private, all-male boarding school, offering grades 7-12 and postgraduate, has transformed young men into citizen leaders. In a beautiful and safe campus setting, cadets develop leadership skills in the classroom, on the playing field, and through training exercises. Valley Forge Military Academy embodies a legacy of educational excellence rooted in personal growth. Support from staff, faculty, classmates, and coaches allow cadets to explore outside their comfort zone and discover new talents.

VFMA cadets exhibit confidence, honor, and integrity. In a complex world full of distractions and difficult choices, our cadets are prepared to meet future challenges head on. Bringing together people and ideas from around the globe, our diverse student body represents more than 15 states and 18 countries. Academy students hail from: China, South Korea, Belize, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Russia, France, Indonesia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Nigeria, Yemen, Egypt, and Morocco. To foster curiosity and exploration, we offer frequent off-campus weekend leave and field trips to Philadelphia and beyond. Study away programs such as mission trips to Jamaica or the Duke of York Royal Military School exchange program expand cadets’ horizons.

“My favorite thing about VFMA is the camaraderie within the Corps. We are part of a brotherhood. Going through the same challenges and experiences brings us closer together. John Ensle Academy Class of 2014

The cadet chain of command and the new student training program encourage peer support. Cadets can join 35 clubs, including judo, rifle club, martial arts, fine arts, and Boy Scouts.

Friendship and teamwork bond us together.

VFMA fosters each cadet’s personal growth through a comprehensive system built on five cornerstones:

Academic Excellence Valley Forge seeks to educate and develop our cadets for four-year college, career success and responsible citizenship. Knowledge inspires them to pursue education throughout the course of their life.

Character Development Valley Forge emphasizes time-proven standards of conduct, ethical behavior, integrity, spiritual values, and service to community and country. This program enables cadets to adapt and contribute to society without sacrificing those values that develop strength of character, lead to honorable success, and foster love of country.

Personal Motivation Valley Forge cadets endeavor to strive for excellence, both individually and as members of an organization. We encourage motivation through positive competition, recognition, loyalty, teamwork, organizational pride, and the establishment of personal goals.

Physical Development Valley Forge strives to improve the health, self-confidence and physical abilities of every cadet through an integrated program of physical education and athletic competition. By focusing on a healthy lifestyle, good physical conditioning, and competitive athletic skills, the institution fosters the development of those attitudes, habits, and abilities that lead to lifelong physical well-being.

Leadership Valley Forge seeks to prepare its graduates to become educated citizen leaders in an increasingly diverse and interdependent global society. Employing the dynamics of a military organization in its structured cadet environment, the Forge experience is designed to foster the development of individual responsibility and sound leadership skills by providing opportunities for the practical application of leadership theories in positions of increasing responsibility.

“All major leadership and character-based decisions in my adult life have run parallel to my experiences as a cadet on the bricks and fields of Valley Forge Military Academy & College. I learned an enormous sense of duty, responsibility to others, as well as to aspire to a life of honorable service. These attributes remain inextinguishable.

Lieutenant Commander George H. Sterns Military Sealift Command, U.S. Navy Academy Class of 1991

“Valley Forge Military Academy for me was more than simply a school, but a place to learn, grow, and mature. Core lessons on leadership, citizenship, and cooperation were forged here, and have carried me throughout my days. Wes Moore Rhodes scholar, U.S. army officer, paratrooper, best-selling author, and white house fellow Academy Class of 1996

For success: mix rigor with passion.

We are a fully accredited preparatory school with a military tradition. Our campus is located on 100 acres, just 15 miles west of Philadelphia in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Lieutenant General Milton G. Baker founded VFMA in 1928. He modeled the school after the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Great Britain. Our campus hosts over 300 students, all male, in grades 7-12 and post-graduate. A transfer college on campus allows academically excelling cadets to pursue advanced coursework. VFMA has an excellent transfer record, with 99% of cadets accepted to their first or second choice schools. Graduates enroll at top universities across the country and internationally, including Princeton University, Dartmouth College, NYU, Columbia University, Villanova University, the US Naval Academy, the US Military Academy at West Point, and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (UK).

We’re committed to academic success. The VFMA “military education model” is a structured and disciplined way of carrying out the education and development of young men. Within a well-rounded curriculum we teach the liberal arts, world languages, health and physical education, art, computer science, social etiquette, character education, and more. Our instructors create an environment that reaches beyond academics. The classroom is a place for cadet teamwork, character development, and learning to lead peers.
