FUEL CANISTER RECYCLING AT MSR, WE’RE OFTEN ASKED HOW TO RECYCLE FUEL CANISTERS. OUR ISOPRO™ CANISTERS CAN BE RECYCLED AS MIXED METAL, BUT THE PROCESS REQUIRES MORE THAN THROWING YOUR EMPTY CANISTER IN A BIN: 1. Confirm the canister is completely empty. (Use all the gas for cooking; it’s better to burn the hydrocarbons than release them.)
3. Once you’re certain the canister is empty, puncture it so that it meets recycling requirements. No need to remove the valve.
2. If you suspect any gas remains, purge it by attaching your stove, inverting the canister, and opening the valve. Be clear of any potential flame or source of sparks.
4. Now, deposit your canister where mixed metals are accepted.
Confirm that your local recycling program accepts mixed metals. If not, or if you have doubts, deliver your canisters directly to a metal recycling center. This is the best way to ensure your canisters are recycled. 77
