HISTORY Our origins The history of Andilana dates back to 1958 when Herminia Camos and her son Luis opened the Hostal Vostra Llar in Palamos, a beautiful fishing village off the Costa Brava coast (Spain). This was the beginning of what later would become family style hospitality with a restaurant on the boardwalk that would last for generations. The head management of Andilana is currently in the hands of the third generation of the first family that started it. Ava Gardner, vacationing on the Costa Brava

After a few years the first restaurant opened: El Plà. Located on the highway of Palafrugell (Gerona, España) with its traditional cooking style using food purchased from local grocers. This initiated the beginning of one of the most fantastic groups of restaurant innovation founded in Spain: the Andilana Group. Since then and until now Andilana has maintained and continued the visions of a man that knew how to foresee and capture opportunities and growth that came with good culinary arts that continues to reinvent itself at prices that are at a reasonable reach with beautiful scenery, pleasant environments that are exotic and relaxing.

The company’s growth runs parallel to its design, gastronomy, logistics, and customer service. In 1992, La Fonda opened its doors during one of the most exciting times in recent Spanish history, the 1992 Olympic Games which were held in Barcelona. It was the first restaurant opened during the events and it would set the mark for the new concept of restaurant design that would triumph with absolute certainty. It was set the trend for new and upcoming restaurants that would open years later. Our Philosophy is simple: use fresh food from local markets wrapped in a delicate yet beautifully decorated gastronomical sophistication at accessible prices that can be enjoyed in the center of the most beautiful cities.

The interior design of our locations is in the hands of the best contemporary Spanish interior decorators that are skilled to capture a criticizing audience that continuously challenges and demands more. This is currently the foundation that they base their philosophy on a sophisticated, elegant, and intimate restaurant environment with a hint of exotic. In 1999, Andilana embarked on a new horizon, opening a restaurant in Madrid, La Finca de Susana which was located in the center of the capital of Spain right next to “The Puerta del Sol”. Thanks to the fantastic success of this restaurant that was embraced by the people of Madrid, we were able to open La Gloria de Montera two years later and to follow the opening of four more restaurants in Madrid including; Bazaar, Ginger, Public y La Caña.

“Since we didn’t know what was impossible, we did it” Meanwhile in Barcelona we had successfully opened 19 restaurants. Some of them being points of interest in Ciudad Condal, like Les Quinze Nits, La Rita or La Fonda, which are all included as “must see” places in travel guides. Little by little we diversified our cooking style in order to allow new concepts to enter our kitchen such as the Japanese fusion concept called (Miu), a Grill Room, or other interpretations of Mediterranean cuisine like (La Polpa, El Flamant, el Balthazar, etc.) In 2004, the Andilana Group made a decisive step in the company’s strategy: the opening of the Hotel Market in the Eixample neighborhood of Barcelona. From this moment on a new concept was born of bringing together a hotel, restaurant and a cocktail bar in the same unit where all three elements interacted with fluidity. Loyal to this idea two more hotels were later opened that were to become emblematic in the Andilana Group name: Hotel Trías, a sophisticated colonial style beach hotel and the Hotel La Malcontenta, a renewed Mediterranean adaptation of the French concept “Relais&Chateaux” in the exotic location of la Cala del Castell (Gerona, Spain). In 2007, the Andilana Group began to expand internationally with the opening of Hotel Sirangan in the Philippines, Le Chateau de Brangoly (2010) in the south of France, and Mogambo River in Madagascar, in 2012. Popular and well acclaimed publishing houses like Conde Nast, Vogue magazine and The New York Times have acknowledged these hotels as some of the best in their category worldwide. In 2011, with a portfolio of 30 restaurants and 6 hotels, the Andilana Group decided to begin expanding their franchise through “the name” “La Mary”, whose culinary concept brings to life traditional dishes in a warm and contemporary environment. In less than six months four restaurants were incorporated under the new franchise “name”: three in Bilbao and one in Barcelona.

2012 is a very special year in regards to the growth and international expansion of the company. With more than half a century of history, this family owned business with a solid corporate identity, challenged itself to grow and create new ideas in the Hospitality Management world by taking a major step towards this vast company. To make this step the Andilana Group pulled together all their resources and ambitious ideas to create three new hotel chains: Urban Hotels, Vacation Hotels and finally Youth Hostels.

OUR BUSINESS MODEL Savoir faire The new developing idea in hotel management lies in a “global proposition” to bring together quality accommodation and cuisine. Within this concept the restaurant will not just be a compliment of the hotel but one of the three pillars that sits on the foundation of this news business model: Hotel, Restaurant, and Cocktail Bar. The groups’ vision is to create a chain of hostels that are modern, dynamic, cozy, easygoing, multicultural, and affordable, with a hint of luxury, and that are replicable in different countries worldwide. They’ll be aimed primarily towards Flashpackers (version 2.0 of the traditional backpacker) and all those clients that travel on a “shoestring budget” and stay at budget hostels and hotels. Every hostel will have its own unique design that will provide a restaurant-cocktail bar at street-level to enable the mingling of the local crowd with our clientele. The idea is to recreate the local lifestyle of the city so that the client is able to integrate him/herself in it. LOCATIONS Where do we go from here... URBAN HOTELS. Our hotels will be situated in selected cities worldwide where there is a high occupancy rate for hotels, modestly priced rooms, and where the price of real estate is reasonable. The relationship between room occupancy, modest room rates, and the price of real estate must be paramount to guarantee a profitability margin for the investor. The hotels will be located in the city center in the touristy areas close to shopping, entertainment, and reputable restaurants, with one clear objective: minimize commercial and investments risks. To make this happen, we offer a wide range of contracts. 1. A long lease agreement based of fixed or variable rent. 2. Management contract. The secret of success to this ambitious project is being able to merge the volume of inves tment, location, and profitability in a way that optimizes each and every investor.

In the case of an urban hotel, the minimum amount that would be required for the investment of this project would be 10 million Euros for the purchase and renovation costs of the property, while for a hostel the minimum investment would be 5 million Euros.
