Library Project

Verity Lawrence Project: College Library Client: Sligo IT DWG: Plans Date: 2006-2007 Scale: 1: 350

1st Floor The top floor of the Library is to be the 'quiet area'. This floor will have indivual study booths, a comfortable reading area, reprographics, the rest of the book shelves, lift and wc's. This floor should only be used by students wanting a quiet environment in which to study or to find a book they require. The glass wall surrounding the central stairwell and void will provide a link with the rest of the library while being an effective noise barrier to the other two floors. Whilst the dynamic of studying is changing, there are still individuals who prefer studying alone. This floor will provide such a space.

Ground Floor The ground floor of the Library is the main entrance point. This floor would incorporate the reception, secure storage room, group work tables, two seminar rooms, staff room, Librarians office, Deputy Librarians office, reprographics, computer access point, book shelves, display area, self service check-out machines, lift and wc's. You can also access the other two floors via the central stairwell. I wanted this floor to provide the necessary space for the 20th century college student. More and more studying is about group work and therefore the individual booths of the past are out-dated. I want this floor to be a space where students can quickly check their emails, meet fellow students for a study group without having to worry about making too much noise while providing an enjoyable place to work for the library staff.

Undercroft The undercroft of the Library is currently being used as storage but could be opened up into the main Library space via a central stairwell that would then connect all three floors. Surveys done on the current Library have shown a lack of a meeting area where people can talk and share a coffee while studying. This space would be dedicated to this with a cafe incorporated into a group study/chill out area. Also in this area would be two seminar rooms, magazine and newspaper display areas, reprographics and wc's.

Project Description: 3-Bed house in Neohori, Greece. In-keeping with the look of this traditional village in which the house is situated, the house was built using local stone. Despite the traditional look outside the owners wanted a modern finish inside. This was achieved with a bespoke Italian kitchen, walk in showers and wardrobe. A contemporary, minimalist approach was taken when furnishing and decorating the building as they wanted the surrounding views the focal point. Outside was paved with small sections left open for planting. A watering system for the plants was incorporated into the design to cut down on maintenance. The swimming pool was designed to make the most of the space available while coming in-line with any restrictions that applied. Under the terrace is the pool house and also a 15,000 litre water tank in case of water shortages that can happen during the summer months. Solar panels were put in place for water heating and an Altherma underfloor heating and cooling system was used as it is eco friendly and an economic way to heat and cool the house throughout the year.

Kitchen Re-Vamp

Verity Lawrence Project: Kitchen Re-Vamp Client: Amy-Jayne DWG: Plan Date: 2010 Scale: 1: 30

Stove

The client wanted a total re-vamp on her kitchen. The original one was out-dated, didn't function to its best ability and made the space feel small and dark. She wanted a space that was brighter, with clean lines and a specific area for her home office. She had a desk that she wanted incorporated into the design so a portion of space was allocated for this. The fake brick work was ripped down and all walls re-plastered. The kitchen units were sourced along with tiles and appliances needed. The floor tiles had to be matched as there were none under the units. This was the hardest part of the design as the tiles were over 10 years old and no longer existed. This kitchen is now a bright welcoming space with clean, fresh looking units and space for a home office.
