experience spaces as medium Storytelling applied to retail and culture

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2018 SUBJECT: MA Thesis Individual Project

The aim of this analysis is to show how cultural and commercial spaces are evolving thanks to digital transformation too. Places that from simple containers become media through which convey messages and experiences, involving ever more users. The graphics are studied in detail, like browsing through a magazine, to make the reading of the research more enjoyable and easy.

on//back stage

Museo del Design 1880 -1980

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2016 SUBJECT: Exhibition Design Team Project

The inspiration started from the idea of being curious and finding out interesting facts about the furniture. In other words, going to the ‘back stage’ of the designer’s mind and inspirations, the making, construction and even the advertising of the masterpieces. The furniture are exhibited on platforms - the Front Stage, while showing information about them behind - the Back Stage, in the beautiful spaces of Triennale di Milano. To emphasize on this concept the objects are arranged according to the mood of eleven famous movies. So while the front stage is subjective, the back stage is objective.

Park Hotel, a three-layered story

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2017 SUBJECT: Interior Design Team Project

The project brief asks the question of what is the next most approprate way to deal with the historical values of the hotel and calls for new ideas for other functions. Rather than ignoring the old and hiding the current ‘fake’ parts of the hotel, the idea is to respect and emphasize on these aspects by creating a new type of relationship between the past and the present. A type of a three-layered story with subtraction and addition. A unique story through the history of the hotel. Wherever destruction happens in the structure, it will be highlighted with golden lacquer. Therefore, all original walls that are not there anymore will also be repsented like this. In this way the concept tries to communicate that as much as change has to be accepted, history has to be respected.

bar basso movie

Milan’s Secret Side

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2017 SUBJECT: Multimedia Design Individual Project

Bar Basso is one of the most famous bar in the history of Milan, well-known also because of the creation of the “Negroni Sbagliato” in the Sixties. The video aims to reveal the preparation of the “Negroni Sbagliato” step by step, showing every ingredient and every movement along the way. The whole video was shot in the “Bar Basso” location, except for the slow motion part, where liquids, textile and glass meet and are combined, shoted with the slow motion camera, in the lighting room of the Academy. The camera movement stays still mostly, while each frame changes from extreme close-up, to emphasize on details, to medium shot, to show the specific movemets of the bartender.

The Breath

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2016 SUBJECT: Interaction Design Team Project

The exhibition aims to keep people in contact with themselves and/or with the others and to make them feel the same experience of a hug without physical contact with other people. So making them focus on their/the other’s breath capturing the breathing flow and translating it into a sound. It is also necessary to create an enveloping warm space. The chosen space is the Milan Central Station, where people usually want to have as less contact as possible with the others. Entering in the space the guest will receive a sphere that leads him/her to the seat, so activating the sound of his/ her own breath. Moving the sphere in the different side holes it is possible to hear the other guests’ breaths sharing your own one. Devices used: flexometer sensor, Arduino, ThinkerKit, Max Msp.

Two sides of the same story

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2016 SUBJECT: Decoration Team Project

The project is inspired by the Biennale of Design in Lubiana in 2017, curated by Angela Rui, who held the decoration course. The aim is to experiment different ways to communicate messages through handmade graphic design. The result is a poster telling the same story by bringing out two possible realities in the same place.

SCHOOL: Naba YEAR: 2015 SUBJECT: New Materials Technology Team Project

The project idea came from a creative moment during which the goal was to create a structure strong enought to support a minimum weight. Using spaghetti and marshmallows we made a small tower characterized by full and empty surfaces, secondarily translated into transparency and opacity. This idea of “transparency and opacity” was the starting point of the project “Giochi di luce”. A research based on visual effects created by flters with the aim to improve the environments of everyday life.

“et sted å være”

A Place To Be, Oslo

CLIENTS: Office-U67 + National Museum, Oslo YEAR: 2017 EVENT: Exhibition Erasmus Plus Traineeship Program

The exhibition “Et sted å være” (A place to be) is the last of a periodic series of venues held every five years within the Nasjonalmuseet – Arkitektur in Oslo which gives an account of the state of art of the Norwegian contemporary architecture, in this case from 2011 to 2016. U67 has been commissioned to interpret the 23 projects chosen by the exhibition curator. The office wanted to mix their brand new drawings with some coming from the offices involved, in order to create a red threat from the project to the contemporary exhibition. The new drawings use a wide range of type of representations, according to the particular needs of the architectures. The following is a selection of the 130 independent representations, which have been laser engraved onto the prism’s felt surface, the structure chosen for the exhibition.
