Castle Rock Dentist Explains Cosmetic Veneers Dr. Scott Brody DDS of Castle Rock Family Dental explains cosmetic veneers and how they can improve a patient's smile. One of the first things we notice about someone is their smile. If you have crooked or damaged teeth, or your teeth are discolored due to coffee, tea, or cigarette smoke, it's perfectly natural to want to hide your smile. Dental implants can be an expensive and painful way to restore damaged teeth and brushing doesn't always remove stains effectively or for very long. Dr. Scott Brody of Castle Rock Family Dental in Castle Rock, Colorado says that it's because of this that cosmetic veneers have become a popular treatment option. “Everyone want's to have that Hollywood smile,” says Dr. Brody, “but you can spend a lot of time and money trying to get there. That's why cosmetic veneers are so effective.” “The process of getting cosmetic veneers is relatively simple.” says Dr. Brody. Veneers are usually made out of porcelain or plastic and then are bonded over the exiting teeth. “Veneers have a longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding, and highly resist permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking.”

The process of getting a veneer usually requires two, two to three hour visits at the dentist office to complete. During the first visit a mold of the patient's teeth will be made and then sent off to a lab where a technician will craft the cosmetic veneers to fit a patient's natural smile. “Veneers are usually irreversible” says Dr. Brody, “it`s necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to allow the veneer to bond and hold into place.” Once the veneer is in place, Dr. Brody says that it's important for a patient to floss and brush daily. “During a two-week period of adjustment that follows, the patient may notice the change of size and shape in their teeth.” It's because of this that Dr. Brody stress the point that veneers are a facsimile of the patient's natural smile and not a perfect replacement.
