ALOPECIA AWARENESS "Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. This condition affects over 80 million Americans. Under this umbrella there are over 75 categories. As a board certified Trichologist, I specialize in alopecia and scalp disorder conditions. Furthermore, I am happy to share some exciting news with you. In September 2012, I will set sail on an alopecia cruise in recognition of National Alopecia Awareness Month. The dates are September 10-15, 2012. We are anticipating a sell-out of reserved cruise cabins. Additionally, we are hosting an essay contest. We will sponsor one or more inner city child, affected with alopecia, along with their parent. The child will be required to write a 300-400 word essay on "How Alopecia Has Affected Me." Our panel of judges will choose the winning essay(s). Submission deadline is July 1, 2012. Face Painting for Your Event by Kathy Rollwage of Merry Heart Face Painting That big event is coming up and you are looking for something fun and different! The nice thing about face painting is that it’s enjoyable for everyone; those being painted and those simply watching! But, before you just randomly go online to search for your entertainer, here’s a quick checklist: •
ALLOW PLENTY OF PLANNING – IF POSSIBLE. It is never TOO SOON….and I recommend you allow a couple of months if you have it, so you’ll have more options. I’m as happy about last minute gigs as any others, but you’ll get my best service if I have at least a week. I’m sure that most entertainers feel the same way. BE READY TO GET YOUR PRICE QUOTE! INFO TO HAVE WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR CALL OR EMAIL: Budget I’ve seen anything from $50-250 an hour in the DFW area; $100-150 is probably the average. Generally speaking, you will get what you pay for! ☺ Services Desired Cheek Art – Full Faces – Glitter Tattoos - etc? Date & Time Location/Venue Number of Possible “Paintees”/Attendees (usually the number of invites +) Keep in mind that it’s not always children that ask to be painted. Many times, there as many teens and adults as children. So if your budget doesn’t allow for everyone, you will have to mention this to the entertainer and in your invitations! General Rule of thumb: 1 hour = 12 simple paintings There are of course issues that arise that can interfere with this math - slow this process down- such as an unattended crowd of children, squirmy paintees, etc. IMPORTANT INFORMATON YOU SHOULD DISCUSS WITH THE FACEPAINTER: Samples Photos? References from past clients? Cheat Sheet/Picture Book/Word list of things that can be painted For larger crowds (20 painting per hour), you may consider a very abbreviated sheet of ideas (4-6 designs) or simply a list. Years of Experience? Types of Paints used? Snazaroo, Paradise, Wolfe Face Art, Diamond FX, and Kryolan are a few of the best face paints. They are all FDA approved, wash off the skin easily, and wash off clothes and hair as well. Acrylic/Craft paints are NOT recommended for use on skin. Also, make sure cosmetic grade glitter is used as well. How many painters provided for price quoted? Table and chairs (table for paints & supplies)=seating for the painter and paintee OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS: Best Parking for the Painter to load/unload Inside or Outside? If your event is an outdoor event please make sure that our entertainers have adequate shade to help minimize the detrimental effects of direct sunlight and heat on them and their balloons or face paint. During Hot Weather months, water and electricity for a fan is pretty important. Some entertainers charge additional fees for outside events. Is there ample room for the children to watch and wait? Access to water, electricity, restrooms Discounts for Charity/Churches? Tip Jar Allowed? Assistance Provided LAST BUT NOT LEAST? Gated community or access issues? Be sure to discuss/give phone #’s etc Contact # of the Entertainer Discuss AHEAD OF TIME, where you will meet if this is a public place – park, restaurant, church, etc. Make sure you exchange phone numbers for the day of the event.
