In addition to the Tyson Ranch products mentioned above, the group plans to launch a variety of CBD only products including CBD tinctures, vapes, lip balms, edibles and pet treats. Tyson, who has consumed cannabis for years, wholeheartedly believes

that it is the consumption of cannabis that has helped him overcome his addictions of the past. Tyson has stated in past interviews that “weed is the miracle drug of the future.” And today, he credits cannabis for helping him recover from the multitude of injuries he had sustained while boxing. Cannabis has also helped to calm his social anxiety and anger issues. Hosting his first Health and Wellness Summit last year at The Ranch headquarters gave Tyson and other fellow professional sports figures the opportunity to bring light to the use of cannabis within sports. Joined by owners, team doctors and league managers, the room was filled with discontent with the intolerance of cannabis in sports. As one

would expect, much of the talk centered around the use of opioids. Referencing the need for cannabis education, one professional team’s physician stated that “the opioid epidemic is reaching astronomical proportions and as physicians we need to learn, we need to better ourselves for our patients.” Tyson, like other athletes, has suffered his own addiction to prescription pain medications and he believes that cannabis has “been the great equalizer to the pain in his life.” The federal government has patented cannabinoids as neuroprotectants for a reason and these athletes deserve the right to heal naturally. It was his personal experience with cannabis and his belief in the healing powers of the plant that led

Tyson and his partners to break ground on the over 420 acre marijuana research and wellness center, Tyson Ranch in California. A portion of the space will be specifically for educational cannabis cultivation, but the rest will house a wellness center, holistic campground and amphitheatre. It is here that the Ranch will host the first ever Kind Festival on February 23rd, a one-day pop-up festival with music, food trucks, “Chillville” with 100 specialty bean bags, a fun zone with inflatable rides, vendors and bar area. realize cannabis was medicine? MT: In my 30's, cannabis really saved me from myself. The health benefits were so clear. As it continued to save me, I knew that everyone needed this kind of medicine.

favorite Tyson Ranch strain? MT: Right now it’s Purple Punch, but I mix it up a lot. It's hard to choose a favorite. We have so many good ones but I think people are moving that KO Kush

3 STEPS TO GETTING A CAREER YOU LOVE IN CANNABIS DO YOUR RESEARCH If you aren't already completely sure which area of the industry you want to work, do your research. Go to conventions, workshops and seminars. Read online and ask questions. Join local industry clubs like LVMMA and Women Grow which is also open to men. Sign up for newsletters from organizations such as NORML and get involved. Join industry social media sights and attend as many industry events as you can. Connect with industry people.

GET YOUR AGENT CARD The first hurdle in getting into the industry is getting your Marijuana Establishment Agent Card. You have to apply, get finger printed and have your photo taken. Once you submit your agent card application to the Department of Taxation's Marijuana Enforcement Division, you will be given a temporary card the same day. This shows employers you are serious.

Terpene Spotlight

ike people, there are certain terpenes that really stand out. They’re up-in-your-face, bold and bright, extra noticeable when they are around. You can smell them from a mile away. And then, there are terpenes that sort of subtly linger in the background. They sneak up on you when you least expect them to be there. A pleasant surprise, a friendly face. Terpinolene is best characterized in this way. You sort of know it’s there, you notice the light, fresh citrusy aroma, and when it’s not around, you kind of miss it. Terpinolene can be found in a wide variety of cannabis strains, however, it is rarely the standout flavor. Generally appearing in smaller amounts, this terpene offers not much in the way of the antiinflammatory benefits that many of its relatives provide. However, it does act as an antiseptic, which makes it a valuable additive to soaps and insect repellents. The fresh, crisp quality of Terpinolene also lends itself nicely as an accent flavor profile within perfumes and scented body products like creams and mists. An herbal, light, clean, woodsy and slightly piney flavor best describes Terpinolene in its natural state. That’s a whole ‘lot of adjectives. Found in apples (there’s that “fresh” flavor we were referring to), sage (the herbal quality), lilacs (light, soap-like, clean), tea tree (pine as pine can be!) and a myriad of other places where you’d least expect this multidimensional terpene to make an appearance, Terpinolene definitely gets around. There are many flower strains which contain Terpinolene (mainly sativa) and it is also widely used in cannabis oils thanks to a pleasantly pine and citrus flavor. Terpinolene acts as a cancer fighter as well, in fact, studies have shown it to slow the growth of cancer cells. Where Terpinolene does its best work however, is in the sedative department. One of the most useful terpenes for inducing sleep and decreasing anxiety, it has been known to have a powerfully soothing effect. A high-CBD strain (and a personal favorite) which contains a good amount of Terpinolene is Sour Tsunami. Sour Tangie, Super Lemon Haze and a few more popular strains like Jack Herer, test high in this terpene, as well. Terpinolene is a valuable element within a wide variety of essential oils that are useful to us in our daily lives. The evasive quality of this terpene however, means that while it is noticeable within products like oils and perfumes, it might not be as obvious within the

cannabis profile. The tell tale sign that indicates the presence of Terpinolene is that special pine and citrus quality, in addition to the calming, sedative-like effect. Balanced with other terpenes and cannabinoids often present in sativa strains, the soothing effect of Terpinolene provides a nice Yin-Yang in the way of relaxation and peacefulness. This terpene is great for easing into a state of relaxation after a long day. A perfect terpene to look for when trying to beat those cold weather blues or curling up for a long winter’s nap.

PATIENTS FIRST AT COHEN MEDICAL

This month we had the chance to sit down with robert cohen and his staff to find out how their focus has changed now that nevada is a recreational state. ohen Medical Center is originally based out of Colorado, what brought you to Nevada?

We're celebrating 10 years in Denver this 2019 and had a lot of friends in the industry that were expanding to Nevada with medical cannabis so thought it’d be a good match. We started here in 2015 before the dispensaries were opened and business was slow, so we survived by introducing hemp medicine the next year.

Now that Nevada is a recreational state, what are the benefits of maintaining a medical card?

Selection. Protection. Price. Easy access.

Medical patients are allowed access to a full range of products without the limits found with recreational products. Access to higher strength products is key to develop an effective regimen aligned with both small and larger dosing for symptoms and conditions. A medical license also offers some sense of protection. It provides proof that you have been qualified by a licensed physician of one or more of the conditions recognized by the state (severe pain, cancer, weight loss, PTSD, severe nausea, persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, HIV/

AIDS, or seizures) that show cannabis could be medically beneficial. If you are in a space that recognizes the state law, you have some insurance as to why THC would be present in your system on a drug test. Recreational users also always pay more. Those recreational taxes add up over time. As a patient with a medical card you save 10% on all dispensary purchases along with priority service. You’re a local! Skip the line of tourists here in Vegas and at the borders. Being a patient in Nevada is more important than ever because of our active push for a Patient Bill of Rights which is designed to increase benefits for Nevada patients specifically. Most doctor offices just offer medical cards. How are you different?

The education you get in our offices. After recreational cannabis became legal in Nevada many dispensaries began to focus on sales over medical care. We recognized for patient safety that we needed to step in as an educational resource. If you tell a budtender you have cancer some might suggest RSO as a tool, but when brand new users go home with messy and highly concentrated products, things could get uncomfortable. We also know patients suffering from severe conditions often require more that the basic recommended dosages to get viable results. We help patients understand cannabis and which methods or tools to use when and why. Providing free

consultations and a selection of handouts on cannabis information, in both English and Spanish, help us share the healing nature of this plant with as many people as possible. You are big advocates for hemp medicine, tell us why and what it means to you?

Because hemp medicine works! Period. We like the distinction of hemp medicine because it’s so much more than just CBD. Why did you start selling hemp medicine?

As the market has changed over the years, so has the demographic. Older patients were coming in looking for a medical alternative but did not want the psychoactive effect of THC. What we found was that whole plant hemp medicine is effective in activating the endocannabinoid system. It helps treat many medical conditions and symptoms in patients of all ages while they remain fully functional. We searched for the highest quality products available and wanted to make them easy for patients to access in our clinics and by mail. What is the difference between all the different kinds of CBD such as full spectrum and isolate? And, is one better than the other? If so, why?

We know these distinctions can be confusing and work hard to make it clearer. "Whole plant" refers to using the flower of the plant in

producing products, where all the medicine comes from. This includes all cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. "Full spectrum" suggests more that THC has been removed, but the rest of the compounds, or some portion thereof, remain. "Isolate" indicates that all compounds have been extracted except for 99.9% pure CBD. Studies show that the synergistic nature of multiple compounds interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system is the most therapeutic. Isolate products have a narrower therapeutic window. Non THC regimens are usually suggested for those who are not able to obtain a medical card or are not willing to consume THC due to regular drug testing. What CBD products, aside from your own line, do you carry & why do you carry them?

We carry products that offer a variety of treatment options because we need different tools at different times. We have a nano-technology product that is very fast acting, other tinctures, topicals, patches, and now a few smokable options. Tell us more about your own branded line of hemp medicine.

Our line is very simple, with two convenient doses of REGULAR at 15 MG CBD and PLUS+ at 50 MG CBD each. We chose capsules because patients can easily determine effective dosing with them.

DOCTOR EVALS We offer the whole plant and nothing but the plant as it gives the patient everything they need in a cannabinoid and terpene rich extraction directly into organic coconut oil. They can also be opened for use sublingually or left whole as a vaginal or anal suppository. Are your products lab tested? Why is this important?

Always. Every batch is tested so that we and our patients know what is and is not in the product. There is no regulation of CBD products like other nutritional supplements, so the only way to truly be an informed consumer is if a product line is willing to provide test results. All industrial hemp is tested for THC at the dry weight, but not beyond that and is more legal than educational. Tests can help you distinguish between whole plant, full-spectrum, and isolate formulations so you always know what you're getting. Test results can help you understand the cannabinoid and terpene profiles and how products work best for you. This allows for more consistent dosing and repeatable relief. What can CBD be used for? How often should it be taken? Does your office offer guidance on dosing with CBD?

The list of therapeutic uses for CBD continues to grow. Some proven scientific uses for CBD are the inhibition of cancer cell growth, treatment of PTSD, suppression of muscle spasms, balancing blood sugar levels, killing bacteria, treating fungus, relieving anxiety, reducing inflammation, promoting pain relief, and additional benefits to the central nervous and immune systems. As a non-psychoactive compound, CBD can be used more freely without uncomfortable side effects and is best taken as a supplement daily. Tinctures and smoking have a shorter duration of treatment but higher bioavailability than edibles and capsules. Dear Mary Jane, Every time I turn on the TV or check my email lately, I am assaulted by all of the dating apps and websites available to unique groups of singles out there. I yearn for the day when the stigma of marijuana use is gone and we can have a dating site specifically for marijuana users. For example, I am 38 years old, I don't live with my mother (she lives with me in her house), I have a good job (shining Supermarket shopping carts) and I have access to marijuana with more than 50% THC content. “Plenty of Fish” sent me an email advising me that I was pathetic and demanding that I “cease-and-desist” trying to advertise with them, as I do not deserve to reproduce. My Frustrated Priapus, You, sir, have done the impossible: you have left me speechless. There are so many angles from which I could approach your letter that they are all making me dizzy. To address your initial question, I know what you mean about the dating websites. Whether I am a farmer, extremely wealthy, or looking for a young stud to spoil, there are sites out there which cater to such desires. I will say this, while marijuana can be anything from medicinal to entertaining, I do not think I would want to date somebody who defined themselves solely by the fact that they like to blaze. Looking at the bigger picture regarding your lack of success with the fairer sex, I don't know as a dating website it is necessarily the best way for you to proceed. Look, 38 years old is not old at all; given that 60 is the new 40, that makes you about 22. As such, your age is not the problem. The first thing that you probably want to address is your current living situation. If you bring a girl home, is your mother going to cook for the two of you? Is she going to throw holy water at you while crying in Italian? Mothers are great, but living with yours is not going to score you any points with anybody, stoned or not. You know, there is no such thing as a drug without dangers. Tylenol can kill you if you take enough of it. While I am a dedicated proponent for marijuana use, it does come with some downsides, and one of those downsides can be a marked lack of ambition. How in the world did you even

get a job shining shopping carts? Not for nothing, but this does not strike me as the type of job rich with potential for advancement. Am I wrong? Do you see where I am going with this, Priapus? Are you ready for your homework assignment? Sort yourself out before you worry about signing up for a dating app. I joke about your employment situation, but for all I know it could be a very rewarding gig. Again, you might want to reexamine your living situation. A classy broad like me would not be impressed by you living with your mother. It speaks to advanced age when you quit breastfeeding. The Chronic is more prevalent in our society right now than it ever has been before; I think you will find a great deal of single women partake. Remember, if marijuana is all that you focus on, marijuana is all that you will find. A day in the life of Jim McAlpine, founder of the 420 Games California cannabis patient and Northern California native, Jim McAlpine, founded the 420 Games- a health-minded event showcasing cannabis in a new light for endurance and pain management, shoving the stigma of the non-productive stoner off the proverbial couch for good. He’s also founder of the mainstream San Francisco Ski & Snowboard Festival, and the New West Summit, a cannabis industry conference with a focus on education, also held in San Francisco each year. McAlpine makes his home in Marin County, across the bay from San Francisco, with his wife and two kids. He’s a family man first, an athlete second, and a cannabis advocate a close third. He first used cannabis in college for a diagnosed case of Attention

Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but he’s admittedly been helped since with more than a sharper focus. ADHD, as defined by the Mayo Clinic, is a chronic condition affecting millions of children, continuing into adulthood. The main symptom is the inability to sustain attention on the task at hand, with impulsive behavior. Typical medications for the disorder are stimulants- Adderall, Ritalin, and Concerta, with side effects that include, anxiety, chronic headaches, sleep disorders, weight loss, and increased heart rate. According to MedicalNewsToday.com, the medications are said to correct the levels of neurotransmitter in the brain, called Dopamine; and cannabis is said to have the same impact on those levels. “Aside from needing cannabis for my ADHD, I also use it for anxiety, sleep and joint pain,” McAlpine shared. “It’s an amazing alternative to the many pharmaceutical drugs I’d been offered to take to deal with all my issues.” A study found within the National Institute of Health’s website (NIH), cannabinoids (CBDs) activate the cannabinoid receptors found within the body’s endocannabinoid system (eCS); signaling cytokine proteins which cause inflammation. CBD helps the body’s immune system fight off infection, while reducing inflammation, for a speedy recovery from sports and other injuries. “Cannabis treats everything, as well as keeping me in a state of optimal health. It’s not a drug, it’s a holistic herb and vegetable – a superfood that’s part of my daily diet,” he added. According to the Oxford Living Dictionary, a superfood is “a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being.” In other words, food is food, buts superfoods are loaded with enough vitamins and minerals to build the immune system and help prevent illness. To qualify as a superfood, a wide range of disorders and ailments must be helped from a single plant. A quick search of RealFarmacy.com, turned up a list of superfoods including, chamomile, tea tree, lemon balm, sage, comfrey, and stinging nettle, to name just a few of the extensive list. Though mainstream lists of superfoods leave off cannabis, another search found many articles posing the question, is cannabis the next big thing in superfoods? Since cannabis is a known antioxidant, fighting inflammation and infection while building the immune system, it’s safe to say, the plant belongs on the superfoods list, via conducive reasoning alone.

McAlpine’s workout begins in the morning with minimal medicating, then increases mid-day, ingesting up to 50 milligrams of activated THC in a medible. His go-to is a little caramel made by Choose Love from Berkeley, California. Dosing is in 10 mg. increments, as needed. In many states legal for cannabis as medicine, ordinances dictate 10 milligram packaging and dosing for safety and ease. Protocols include starting with a low dose, then waiting up to two hours or more for effect, then taking more, as needed. Titrating up to a higher dose or down to regulate dosing and tolerance is common, and can be compared to pharmaceutical dosing practices. Throughout the day he’ll medicate as needed with a vaporizer pen, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and to retain focus. CBC

Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) which are two of the more frequently discussed cannabinoids, CBC’s benefits aren’t as commonly well known. However, research points to CBC as being one of the most effective compounds within cannabis, and one that should have just as much attention as other cannabinoids for its immense healing capabilities. CBC is a compound that is non-psychoactive. It is produced from the action of the enzyme CBCA-synthase, which transforms into CBGA in CBCA. CBC (which is non-decarboxylated by losing a molecule of CO2) converts from CBCA to CBC. This occurs organically over time (weeks to months) or by applying heat. Think, the fire of your lighter flame upon contact. Then…poof! Science. The cancer-fighting potential of CBC is exciting, as this cannabinoid stays in the bloodstream longer than some others. Our bodies produce a natural endocannabinoid called anandamide, and research has shown CBC to be instrumental in maintaining higher levels for longer periods in our system. Other major benefits of CBC are its effectiveness as an anti-bacterial agent, fighting fungus and bacteria, a pungent anti-viral, a powerful antidepressant working to elevate mood in the same way as THC (without the psychoactive quality). CBC also helps brain cells to develop (neurogenesis) and acts as a major pain reducer and fighter of inflammation within the body. Folks who suffer with migraines already know the powerful ways in which CBC can help curb symptoms and relieve the debilitating pain. While CBC packs a massive punch, it tends to only appear in cannabis as a lesser cannabinoid within the plant profile. Because of its elusive nature, it is hard to localize and produce in larger amounts. CBC is developing a reputation as being the most effective cannabinoid to help fight against depression. While its benefits are still being discovered, there are a few cannabis strains that feature higher levels of CBC: 3 Kings (of Sour Diesel and OG Kush lineage) and Jorge’s Diamonds #1 by Dutch Passion. CBC, while being extremely productive in fighting inflammation, in addition to all of its other benefits, does not activate the body’s endocannabinoid receptors. Because of this, the best utilization of CBC occurs when combined with THC, CBD and other cannabinoids. The combined effect activates brain and body receptors, thus giving us the best results. Anyone suffering from Crohn’s disease, neuropathy, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and a bunch of other ailments that list “inflammation” as their main side effect, stand to benefit from the healing powers of this magical cannabinoid.

GETTING MYSTICAL WITH MISTYLAND Misty Lownik is an awardwinning edibles chef and homegrown Nevada native who creates desserts inspired by love. For the past three years Misty has run Mistyland Baked Goods- her own company that provides infused-products consulting and caters cannabis industry events including the monthly meeting of the Las Vegas Chapter of “Women Grow”. Her masterful blending technique is known for creating delicious infused cuisine with a pure, clean taste and finish. I recently sat down with Misty to find out what makes her (and them) so mystical. Q. What is your favorite dessert to make? A. Hands down my favorite to bake is my dark chocolate hazelnut truffle brownies. This dessert is just me a bowl and a whisk. Nothing better than the simple things in life. Q. Ok, so what’s your least favorite to make? A. Well, the hardest dish I make is also my secret weapon and some say my best dish - my Baklava. There’s so many layers to it, it’s so time consuming and delicate. But when you taste it, it’s so worth it.

Q. What sets your food apart from others? A. My recipes are very unique, and I’ve been perfecting them over the last 10 years. I also make products that are both vegan and gluten-free, although you would never know it. For example my brownies are actually flourless, so they‘re naturally glutenfree. I also make my Rice Krispy treats with pure maple syrup and they remind you of a delicious maple bar. You might think it sounds similar to what’s out there already, but once you taste my recipes you’ll know the difference. Q. What inspires you in the kitchen? A. My love and passion for creating simple yet decadent desserts. The simplest of dishes are typically also the ones that people say are “to die for”. I think less is more especially in the kitchen. Q. When making edibles, what’s your secret for blending cannabis in so well? A. Well, I’ve made edibles in lots of ways but my preference is to use a custom process with concentrates and oil. I’ve found this process never overpowers the flavor of the food, and has a much better

effect. If you use cannabutter and flower there can be a more noticeable weed taste and tint. Q. Where do you see Mistyland Baked Goods in the future. A. Our next step is to get these delicious edibles out to the masses! We’re starting to look at cannabis kitchens now to hopefully get on shelves as soon as possible. Q. How many cannabis strains have you smoked? And what’s your favorite? A. I am a strain hunter for sure! I think I’ve been to almost every dispensary in Las Vegas since they opened three years ago and in California and Colorado for years before that. By now I’ve smoked over 200 strains, and I’ve actually kept a list. I’d have to say the Blueberry family is my favorite indica, my favorite hybrids are Pink Champagne and Forbidden Fruit, and my favorite sativa Super Lemon Haze. Q. So do you have a favorite terpene? A. Limonene, I love the pure citrus taste with it’s energetic effects and elevated mood because who doesn’t love to be happy.

Q. If you were a sweet dessert what sweet would you be and why? A. Chocolate because I wanna melt in your mouth and in your hands. Q. What is your signature dessert? A. My award winning dark chocolate hazelnut brownies would have to be my signature. It’s a mouthful of rich ooey gooey decadent heaven that almost melts in your mouth like butter. This brownie will satisfy any chocolate craving, that’s for sure. Q. Do you cook with CBD or THC? A. I cook with both. I do extraction for some companies in Nevada and CBD is actually one of my specialties. I’ve also used both cannabis and hemp-based CBD in my edibles. Q. Some people say there is no difference in sativa or indica edibles. Do you agree? A. I definitely believe edibles can affect people differentlyand can even vary each time you take them. This is because of a lot of different factors from how fast or slow your metabolism is, to what you have in your stomach at

the time, to the type of edible it is. Also, the terpenes and cannabinoids of the strains used in the edibles all affect your experience- just another amazing reason why I love them. Q. Why did you start medicating with Cannabis? A. As a Las Vegas native I grew up pretty fast and started smoking cannabis at age 13- for recreational purposes of course! At age 22 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a muscle disease with overwhelming pain. The next four years I felt like a zombie in a haze from all the drugs the doctors had me taking. One day I looked at this plant that Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve smoked for years in a completely different perspective. I no longer take opioids or other destructive painkillerscannabis has been my medicine ever since. Q. As a cannabis influencer in Las Vegas what are your goals? A. I would love to help end many of the negative stigmas associated with cannabis, especially that women feel like they need to hide their cannabis use. It should be as acceptable as a glass of wine! The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers

I can’t believe it’s been a year and a half since I began doing this column and we still don’t have cannabis consumption lounges! In the very first Cannab-Esq.Chronicles back in September 2017, as well as numerous other times over the life of this column, I wrote about the problems associated with marketing and selling legalized recreational marijuana to tourists while giving the same tourists no legal place to consume it. As we all know by now, using marijuana in a public place is illegal. Both NRS 453A.300 (medical) and NRS 453D.400 (recreational) prohibit using or consuming marijuana in any “public place” - which is defined elsewhere in the law as “an area to which the public is invited or in which the public is permitted regardless of age.” This is forcing visitors and tourists to break the law any time they want to consume their product while here. I don’t think anyone can deny that there is an urgent need for cannabis consumption lounges here in Las Vegas. Luckily, City of Las Vegas councilman Bob Coffin has put forth a draft bill that (if passed by the Las Vegas City Council) should get cannabis consumption lounges lit and blazing in no time. As currently drafted, councilman Coffin’s bill would also allow the establishments to serve drinks with alcohol content of up to 11%. While this initially sounds good in theory, we all know mixing alcohol and marijuana can increase the effects of both significantly. And the thing about cannabis consumption lounges? You have to leave at some point, and opponents of the bill say that will probably be by car. Opponents of the bill point to the uptick in traffic accidents and fatalities associated with marijuana and say that having a one stop shop for both booze and weed is just asking for trouble and will eventually lead to even more serious injuries and/or death. While councilman Coffin originally included the alcohol provision in the bill in order to give the establishments a more reliable source of income through alcohol sales, he has expressed a willingness to amend the bill and remove alcohol if that’s what it takes to get the lounges open. But alas, the gaming and resort industries have also been hesitant to support the existence of cannabis consumption lounges since gaming regulators spoke up last year and made it clear that they were not high on the idea of mixing gambling and marijuana. But it is abundantly clear that cannabis consumption lounges are needed in some form or fashion. Hopefully this bill – or some version of it – gets passed in the immediate future!

While the City of Las Vegas is busy taking up the issue of cannabis consumption lounges, Clark County officials have been working diligently on pot-friendly policies themselves. Newly-elected county commissioner and Godfather of marijuana in Nevada, Tick Segerblom, has been championing the cause of expunging past marijuana convictions. The proposal was originally championed by former county commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, but Segerblom has been more than happy to step in, and who better to lead the charge? The idea is that those with low-level marijuana convictions and arrests will be able to get those records expunged – or as we call it in Nevada, “sealed.” However, for this to work as proposed, State legislators will have to pass legislation first, giving the District Attorney the power to do this. Segerblom and District Attorney Steve Wolfson have allegedly already agreed to work together to accomplish this. Meanwhile, new chairwoman of

the Clark County Commission, Marilyn Kirkpatrick, has made an intriguing marijuana-related proposal of her own. Commissioner Kirkpatrick has proposed that some of the money the county takes in on annual licensing fees for marijuana-related businesses be used to help educate and assist the county’s homeless population. In the 2018 fiscal year, Clark County brought in $9.3 Million in licensing fees from marijuana-related businesses, and the county is already on pace to top those numbers in the 2019 fiscal year. I don’t see any reason a portion of these funds can’t be redistributed to help those in need. On the state level, the 80th (2019) Session of the Nevada Legislature began on February 4, 2019 and as I previously discussed in The Cannab-Esq. Chronicles #13 (September 2018), there is some significant statewide cannabis-related legislation up for discussion. This is the Nevada legislators’ first stab at making changes to Nevada’s marijuana laws since legalized recreational marijuana was passed in 2016. One of the most significant proposals involves a change to how marijuana tax money is distributed. And with recreational sales topping $425 Million in the first full year of sales, we are talking beaucoup bucks here. There is a special 10% excise/sales tax that is applied at the time of purchase on all recreational sales. Currently, this tax revenue goes to the State of Nevada’s “Rainy Day” fund for use towards several things. The bill proposal redistributes some of this tax revenue into areas that will be used for education and medical marijuana research. The proposal also allows local jurisdictions to levy additional taxes on marijuana sales for use on schools, community programs, etc. And speaking of money, there are multiple proposed bills being negotiated and discussed that aim to help solve the marijuana banking issue in Nevada. Because most banks are federally regulated, and because marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act, many marijuana businesses in Nevada are finding it almost impossible to find a viable banking solution. This has forced local marijuana businesses to deal mostly in cash, which is dangerous and basically invites crime and corruption. One of the proposed bills would create a privately-insured state-chartered bank that would be able to handle Nevada’s marijuana business clientele. Another bill proposes to enter into an agreement with California to have a joint banking system tailored towards marijuana businesses. Luckily, it appears multiple potential solutions are being discussed, so Nevada’s banking problem will hopefully be fixed very soon. From the state level all the way down to the county and city level, this is an exciting - and important - time for cannabis law in Nevada. Our elected officials are meeting, discussing, negotiating, and making decisions that will frame and shape the future of cannabis in Nevada for years to come. With newly-elected Governor (and friend to the cannabis industry) Steve Sisolak at the helm, I’m confident Nevada will continue to make giant leaps in the industry and keep fighting to be the cannabis capital of the world! CANNABIS IS AN Anti-inflammatory Multivitamin >>> By Cindy Orser

Over the last several years the interest in cannabis, Cannabis sativa, and cannabinoids, the bioactive chemicals made by the cannabis plant, has been on the rise. Cannabinoids mediate their physiological effects in man through activation of specific cannabinoid receptors; the most well known are the cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2). CB1, which is predominantly expressed in the brain, and CB2, which is primarily found on the cells of the immune system in the periphery and skin. The fact that both CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found on immune cells, strongly suggests that cannabinoids play an important role in the regulation of the immune system. One of the most associated responses of an activated immune system is inflammation and, at no surprise, cannabinoids are effective in suppressing the inflammatory response and subsequently attenuate resulting disease symptoms. Inflammation and oxidative stress are intimately involved in the beginning of many human diseases. Understanding the detrimental interrelationship between inflammation and oxidative stress has been a great medical challenge. Unraveling that

relationship therapeutically has proven challenging, in part because inflammation and oxidative stress aggravate each other. CBD would seem to be a promising starting point for further drug development given its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions on specific immune cells. Inflammatory conditions and chronic inflammatory disease are widespread among the human population with approximately 22% of individuals reporting such afflictions that can serve as the initiation of many chronic human diseases, including many human autoimmune disorders. Cannabinoids have been tested in several experimental models of autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and hepatitis and have been shown to protect from their further development through induction of multiple anti-inflammatory pathways. Cannabinoids now present an opportunity to further dissect the contributing roles of specific immune cells and the molecules they produce because of the anti-inflammatory actions of CBD on macrophages and microglia in particular at sites of inflammation. The therapeutic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating cousin of the intoxicant THC, are a result of its modulation of cell signaling events on immune cells that trigger the self-sustaining cycle of inflammation and oxidative stress that can lead to debilitating conditions and organ fibrosis. CBD in particular may prove to have therapeutic utility in a number of conditions involving both inflammation and oxidative stress, including Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and various skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. CBD’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties are independent of the mechanisms of the familiar drugs prescribed for inflammation such as aspirin, ibuprofen or any other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). And notably, cannabinoids of course are generally free from the detrimental side effects associated with NSAIDs including dizziness, constipation, nausea, kidney and liver failure, and prolonged bleeding after surgery or injury. The clinical development of CBD in particular presents a new approach to treatment of diseases characterized by acute and chronic inflammation potentially leading to organ fibrosis. TALES FROM THE CRIP

Existing in My Mind I know you. If you are reading this column, then I know you, at least a little bit. You found this copy of Vegas Cannabis Magazine in the lobby of a local dispensary, looked at all of the pictures of the awesome buds and consumption devices, and now you are reading this column because my avatar looks like Walter White, which hopefully means that I’m cool. Given that you are actually reading this column, I will say that you are at least 40 years old; I base this statement on both my knowledge of humanity— hunger for knowledge comes with maturity—as well as my observations at local dispensaries.

I know that you are a fan of some marijuana product or other. Different people use marijuana for different reasons. It treats migraine, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (the sexiest of all of the sclerosis-based diseases), anxiety, PTSD… the list is endless. Some prefer a one-joint coffee break as opposed to a three-martini lunch. Hey, I don’t judge. The bottom line is this: we use the drug because we like the way that it makes us feel. If you have previously read this column, then you know that I have multiple sclerosis (MS); if you are new to this space, then HEY! I have multiple sclerosis! Interestingly, MS was one of the leading conditions for which medical marijuana was approved here in the Silver State, due to its tremendous value in treating muscle spasms and such common in MS. Other people use it to treat anxiety or to stimulate appetite suppressed by medical treatments. Regardless, in my experience it has a much greater, if less tangible, benefit than muscle relaxation: it gets me out of my miserable body and into my glorious head.

I am the first to admit that I am very easily entertained. Mindless cruising of various Internet websites has led me to some unusual destinations, but my favorite method of engaging my mind (and fucking off my body) is through watching movies. My taste in movies tends to be quite varied, but in my mind there are movies and then there are MOVIES! I hesitate to call my favorite movies “stoner” movies, because none of them have to do with marijuana. Rather, they are unusual/surreal/dystopian enough to capture all of my imagination; adding a mellow head to the event is like adding gravy to ice cream. Or something like that. Anyways, below are a few of my favorites for enjoying an altered state of consciousness: Starship Troopers: “It’s an ugly planet! It’s a bug planet!” So screamed the news commentator mere seconds before his ghastly departure from this mortal plain--

I see all of those nasty bugs as my bosses, with me as the athletic and good looking protagonist, Johnny Rico, mowing down bad guys with my infinite-ammo rifle. It is crazy violent, but closer to Warner Bros. than to “Death Wish”. A Clockwork Orange: Aversion therapy is a tool used by mental health care professionals to help people deal with their fears and anxieties. Are you afraid of snakes? Say hello to your new roommate Mr. Slithers! Do you see where I am going with this? Protagonist Alex is a young punk in a dystopian 1970’s London. He and his droogies go around robbing, pillaging, and raping; we all know that it is just a matter of time before shit gets real. Once caught and imprisoned, Alex devotes his considerable intelligence to getting out of prison. He learns of an experimental aversion therapy treatment (the Ludovico Technique), which he brashly volunteers for. What he doesn’t realize is that this treatment is designed to literally turn him inside out mentally, emotionally and otherwise. Total head-screw. Love it. Planet of The Apes (1968): Charlton Heston chews more scenery than Bruce the Shark from “Jaws” in this movie: “KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME, YOU DAMNED DIRTY APE!!” Way to make friends, big guy. I also believe that viewing this movie enough will result in you un-evolving. Why do I believe this? Simply put, I’ve discovered that some of those ape chicks get increasingly more attractive as the movie progresses. Do not say that I didn’t warn you! 2001: A Space Odyssey: This is the Monte Cristo of my favorite movies. This is my Cohiba. When I’m feeling a bit too grounded, this is my go-to. From alien-forced evolution to creepy monoliths to an Artificially Intelligent psychopath named HAL, this Stanley Kubrick offering will leave the viewer unsure about pretty much everything. While I still heartlessly mock AI scaredy-cats (looking at YOU, Elon Musk), I still find the two following lines existentially horrifying: DAVE: Open the pod bay doors, Hal. HAL: I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.

heart or that it will automatically decrease their chances of developing a serious heart condition. Moreover, people who already have a heart condition need to tread cautiously here.

According to the World Health Organization, the leading cause of death in the world is ischemic heart disease, also known as coronary artery disease or coronary heart disease. It is a disease that causes arteries to narrow, which leads to a drop in the amount of oxygen that reaches the muscles of the heart. The drop in oxygen levels make it more and more likely to have a heart attack. It’s a scary disease, and it’s trending in humans, but is less likely in low income countries where ischemic heart disease ranks just third for leading causes of death. For Americans, ischemic heart disease is the number one cause of death annually. Why is it that Americans are more likely to die from a heart condition? Many point to a combination of our lifestyles and diets. In America, people’s health is suffering in a number of ways. The majority of the population is overweight or obese, and many Americans are eating poorly – all the wrong foods and few of the right ones. Not to mention all the stress that can wreak havoc on heart health. Add it all up and it’s no wonder that the leading cause of death for Americans is related to heart problems. Lifestyle changes are a critical factor here, but how about cannabis? Could it be part of the solution as well?

Cannabis and Heart Health, According to Science

A 2015 study that appeared in the Journal of Disease and Global Health found that frequent cannabis consumers had smaller waist sizes than those who don’t consume or who were past consumers.

Doctors’ Advice on Cannabis and Heart Health

For reference, a few doctors and cannabis specialists offered their general guidelines for keeping our hearts healthy when consuming cannabis.

In 2011, a study that appeared in the American Journal of Epidemiology concluded that “the prevalence of obesity is lower in cannabis users than in nonusers.” Since obesity and large waist size are directly linked to heart disease, it seems that cannabis may improve heart health simply by keeping body weight down. Another study in The American Journal of Medicine had similar findings regarding cannabis use and smaller waist sizes. More importantly, the researchers of that study also found that cannabis users have a lower level of fasting insulin and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance affects the heart directly. According to a study that appeared in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the researchers concluded that “insulin resistance is…a multifaceted syndrome that increases significantly the risk for cardiovascular disease.” Essentially, there seems to be significant evidence cannabis use is good for your heart as a preventative health measure. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone should immediately start smoking cannabis to improve the health of their

Many of the doctors and cannabis specialists suggested full-spectrum, CBD-dominant as the best product profile to look for when using cannabis as a tool for improved health. Dr. Joe D. Goldstrich, MD, said that CBD “by virtue of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, may hold the greatest potential to modulate atherosclerosis and provide improved heart health.” Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Rachel Knox recommended microdosing CBD-heavy tinctures “that include a rich variety of terpenes including BetaCaryophyllene.” She recommended Beta-Caryophyllene for several reasons: • It’s a dietary cannabinoid according to a 2008 study in PNAS. • It reduces atherosclerosis, according to a study published in ChemicoBiological Interactions. • The British Journal of Pharmacology showed in 2000 that it reduces the shortening of the action potential in the heart’s muscle when there is a diminution of calcium by inhibiting the potassium current.

CBD-rich products are one thing, but what about THC-dominant products? Where do they factor in for people concerned about heart health? Dr. Knox stressed the importance of accurately dosing THC. She recommended microdosing; start small and go slow if you’re not used to cannabis. For more experienced cannabis consumers, she included ingestion as a reliable means of treating heart conditions because, as she pointed out, ingested THC is “about 10 times more euphorigenic and intoxicating” when it converts to 11-OH THC in the liver. Dr. Knox also suggested edibles should not include sugar, artificial sweeteners, grains, dairy, and other pro-inflammatory products as they would be counterproductive.

Minimizing Cannabis Side Effects and Risks for Heart Patients

Whichever form of cannabis patients turn to, proper dosing is integral to using cannabis for its heart-healing and heartpreserving benefits. By starting with low doses, patients can aim for the desired effect while minimizing any unwanted side effects. One of those side effects includes how high-dose CBD impacts the body’s ability to metabolize many pharmaceuticals. According to a study in Life Sciences, Yamaori et al. showed that CBD most potently inhibits certain enzymes in your liver, causing a lot of medications to hang around in your body longer than intended, including blood thinners like Warfarin. We see similar effects with compounds in grapefruit, and it basically means you might have to work with your doctor to lower the dosage if you want to take CBD-rich products in conjunction with your current pharmaceuticals. Aside from CBD versus THC, what’s the best delivery format for heart patients? Smoke inhalation, for instance, comes with effects like increased blood pressure, stroke, and even heart attack in some cases. Harvard-trained MD Dr. Jordan Tishler recommends people avoid these risks all together by choosing vaporization over smoking. He wants people to remain safe when consuming cannabis, adding, “the key to safely using cannabis for people with any of these cardiac illnesses is acknowledging the risk and monitoring them closely.” Though each of the doctors expressed their belief that cannabis consumption can improve heart health, they were also careful to remind everyone to speak with their own doctor and inform them of their life choices.

The Future of Cannabis and Heart Health

While cannabis shows positive signs as a tool for preventative health, current heart patients need to approach it with care. Hopefully, as cannabis gains legitimacy as an effective medicine, we will be able to establish clearer guidelines for all physicians and their patients. What is that aroma I smell? Ahhh, yes, it’s the scent of romance... and Ganja. A most impactful pairing, especially in the month of February. Though my love life has been rather dry and parched in recent years, I do have plenty of love memories to keep me warm at night. Even now.

I was competing with a city council meeting, my dear man was scheduled to attend later that evening. But if I had anything to say about it, thoughts of leaving me for a group of dry-toast attendees seated on folding chairs in a Mac’n cheese, chicken finger, pudding cup smelling school cafeteria would be no contest.

One of my very favorite love experiences is the time my Beloved and I dined on a bearskin rug, spread out on the floor, in front of the fireplace. However, this was not your typical indoor picnic. I’m not sure what inspired me to do so, but I had decided to bypass the hauling of plates and wine glasses from kitchen to living room and prepare our entire meal IN the fireplace. I considered it a form of cooking over the open flame of a campfire. Something my then husband enjoyed; me, not so much.

After carefully balancing a large cast iron grid over logs and crumpled newspaper, I lit the blaze afire. Russell was upstairs dressing for his meeting when he called down, how disappointed he was to have to leave me on Valentine’s Day, of all days. He was glad the meeting had been set well after the dinner hour so we could, at least, have our meal together. Moments later, he came downstairs and halted on the landing when he saw what I was doing. He promptly asked, “What are you doing, Deborah?” My answer came in the form of a smile.

I set about preparing a simple, yet scintillating meal that was sure to result in a shared afterglow. The menu? A Cilantro, Sweet Corn and Cannabis Soup with a boule of Herbal Foccacia. A single composed salad for us to share and yes, the proverbial chocolate covered strawberries. No oysters, but the chili pepper in the soup and the chocolate on the fruit would certainly lend themselves to the mood and ambiance I had in mind. Not to mention the addition of Cannabis into every dish I planned on serving.

I returned to stirring the fragrant leeks, minced garlic, Poblano chili and spices into a mixture of shimmering Canna-olive oil and rolled butter. The other ingredients and spices awaited their introduction to this Valentine venture as Russell cautiously approached. He stood at the fireplace with furrowed brow, as though even seeing this manner of cooking still didn’t quite bring him to believing.

I handed him a glass of red wine, gave him a long, soft kiss, then knelt back down to commence cooking. Our two years together had taught him to not question, but rather quietly observe and wait. I had purposely avoided any appetizers or antipasti, so we wouldn’t feel too full. Dinners prepared with romp and romance in mind should never be too filling- otherwise you run the risk of one or both partners falling asleep. Now side by side on our haunches, Russell passed each ingredient upon request, as I stirred and tasted. My Herb de Provence and Keif Foccacia had been wrapped in foil so it would be warm and ready for its own introduction to that sultry roll of Cannabutter. Our composed salad was arranged on a large plate; a deconstructed composition of endive, hearts of palm (of course) curled shavings of bright orange carrot and assorted olives. All drizzled with an infused Vinaigrette. My strawberries remained hidden in the fridge. By his second glass of wine, the cream had been whisked into the soup and the bread was ready. As I set our plates and flatware on the blanket, I noticed Russell had his shoes on! Apparently attending that city council meeting was still on the table. I directed him to sit and get comfortable as I scooched over to remove his shoes. Now that his probable exit was somewhat delayed, I picked up bits of salad and slid a forkful into his mouth. He grinned. This was a good sign. Wordlessly asking if he wanted more by raising my eyebrows, he nodded yes. Then I handed him the fork, while extending the plate towards him, indicating it was his turn to feed me. With our salad finished, I reached into the Dutch oven pot that held our bubbling soup over the fire and ladled some into two individual crocks. I pointed to the Compound Canna-butter sitting on a small plate, looking like a bouquet of green-flecked flowers. Carefully Russell spread a little butter on the torn pieces of bread. We watched the butter melt onto the warm bread like a woman melting in the arms of Rhett Butler. Still, without speaking a word, we both lifted our bowls and lifted the spoons to our lips. I watched as Russell closed his mouth around the spoon. His eyes closed, the corners of his mouth went up. “Oh my God, Deborah, this is so good!” What Russell didn’t know was that the heat of the Poblano and Red Pepper Flakes not only added flavorful spice, they also ignited heat in our bodies. Capsaicin adds heat to our libidos by way of the neurotransmitters in our brains. The garnish of diced avocado offered sensual innuendo as well as sexy texture. While the cilantro gave the soup a high note (pun intended). My infused vegetable broth added its own high notes with the promise of some frolicking fun later. While Russell had declined my offer to pour a third glass of wine earlier, I now sat like a Cheshire Cat as he took the initiative to pour us both another glass. We were a little over an hour into dinner when I noticed a shift in the paradigm. Not only were Russell’s shoes off, his tieless dress shirt was now unbuttoned about three buttons. “Is the fire getting too warm?” I inquired. It wasn’t the flame in the fireplace that was making him hot he assured me.

Two bowls of soup later and yes, another glass of wine each, I sat cross-legged, nestled in-between Russell’s legs. Mesmerized by the dancing flames, I began feeling the effects of our infused meal. Though Russell’s tolerance is far greater than mine (he’s on par with Snoop Dogg, Cheech Marin, and my eldest son, Edison) he was unusually quiet. I asked if everything was okay, though I presumed he was beginning to feel a little something too. He assured me everything was more than okay. I secretly hoped he was reconsidering going to that meeting. I turned to kiss him and told him there was one thing more. “Dessert?” he asked. Yes, a treat which one of the most powerful rulers had loved. Russell began giggling (it’s working, I thought). When I returned to our blanket with Montezuma’s go-to prescription for love, Russell’s eyes widened as he clapped his hands in glee. Okay now, he was acting rather silly- another good sign. I had selected the biggest, ripest, reddest of strawberries. Using my favored Valrhona chocolate, I had prepared a dark, bittersweet ganache enriched with Cannabutter. We ate every single berry. While the embers in the fireplace died down, fires elsewhere were beginning to combust. Guess where Russell ended his evening?

Cosmic Muffin’s Recipe For Cilantro & Sweet Corn Canna-Soup INGREDIENTS: 2 Tbsp Canna-olive oil 2 Tbsp Cannabutter 2 leeks - sliced 3 cloves garlic - minced 1 tsp chipotle powder 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes 1 poblano chili - seeds/ribs removed - minced 2 cups Infused vegetable broth 1/2 of a 14-oz can of whole tomatoes 1/2 can chickpeas - rinsed 1 cup fresh or frozen corn kernels 1 Tblsp maple syrup salt and pepper to taste 1/4 cup Infused heavy cream cilantro - chopped 1/2 avocado - diced 1 lime - quartered Crema Mexicana - optional PROCESS: In large Dutch oven, over medium low heat, melt olive oil and butter. Stir in leeks until soft. Add garlic, chipotle powder, cumin, pepper flakes and poblano chili. Once fragrance fills the kitchen, add broth, tomatoes (squeeze them into bits while adding to pot) chickpeas, corn and syrup. Add salt and pepper then allow mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat then whisk in heavy cream. If soup is too thick, add water or more broth. Taste for additional seasoning. Ladle into individual bowls, garnishing each serving with dollop of crema Mexicana, avocado, cilantro and squeeze of lime. Serves 4

DawnStarr: Where are you from and how long have you lived in Las Vegas? I am originally from Ethiopia, I been in Las Vegas for 20 years. DS: What led you to become an artist? For me personally, creating art is my meditation, my therapy, my happy place and most importantly it's what makes my

soul smile. My love for art and creativity started in my early teens. When I was 14 years old I got a jewelry making kit that I used to start making necklaces and bracelets. I enjoyed sitting in my room listening to music and creating my jewelry, I started to notice how happy it made me feel to create. Between college and work I didn't have enough time to create as much as I would have liked. But as time passed, my passion for art never left me, it was always

in the back of my mind. In my early twenties I went out to The Strip for Halloween. I loved all the creative costumes! The makeup, hair, elaborate costume designs and the joy it brought all the people having a great time showing off their creations. I began to feel my love for creation came back. The following year I hand made my own costume inspired by the movie Avatar, and it reminded me of how much I loved and missed being creative. Ever

since then I have made my own costumes, from Day of the Dead to Devils to Game of Thrones to Dexter to Queen of the Damned, and many more. I have won numerous costume contests and have taught myself how to sew cloth, apply elaborate makeup and crochet. A few years ago I was introduced to resin. Resin is a fantastic medium that I use to create my unique art, and it's also one of the most challenging mediums I have ever worked with, but absolutely worth it! DS: How would you describe your art style? My art style can be described as fluid art. All my artwork is made with high quality, non toxic, food safe resin. I create wall art as well as functional art inspired by ocean scenes such as cutting and serving boards, accessory trays, coasters and candle holders. DS: Do you have a studio or gallery here locally? Online store? As of now I have Instagram business page @artbyleela000, where you can also buy all my art. I am also working on starting an Etsy store which will be open by the end of February 2019. Currently I have some of my art pieces at Art 2 Art Gallery. gives audiences a musical high

ettuce guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff walks through Boston’s winter streets with a spring in his step. Why shouldn’t he? The year 2018 couldn’t have been better for his bandmates, what with their Blue Note Jazz Club residency in New York City, with performances recorded for the purposes of a DVD. On top of this, Lettuce—a group that sounds like Earth, Wind & Fire riffing through a Frank Zappa fakebook—has recorded dozens of songs for a new album, the first since 2017’s acclaimed “Witches Stew”, a live tribute to the acid-jazz era of Miles Davis. Positive word of mouth about this crowd-dazzling sextet continues to spread. Indeed, confidence and elevation are hallmarks of Lettuce’s sound. The band—formed by students at Berklee College of Music—plays with joyful, chops-fluent bravado. If you like to dance, you’re going to move; if you admire technical proficiency, you’ll be gobsmacked. Hardly surprising, then, that there was never any doubt in the run-up to releasing “Stew”, which collects live renditions of seven songs made famous by the man who birthed “Birth of the Cool” and “Bitches Brew”. “We never planned on putting out Witches Stew,” says Smirnoff during a recent phone chat with VCM. “It was an off-the-cuff gig, but when we listened back to it we realized how much freedom we had that night for improvisation. Essentially, we released a live recording that represents what we love about the music of Miles, who we knew would appreciate it.” It’s hard to imagine the Dark Magus himself not smiling as Lettuce performed his music in front of toasted 20 year olds, a young festival audience (at the 2016 Catskill Chill in Lakewood, Penn.) wide open to basking in “future music” fashioned in the not-sodistant past. It’s a rewarding listen for anyone who adores jazz, funk, psyche. Smirnoff agrees with the assessment that critics were unkind to Davis, dismissing his funkier efforts mere pandering to a younger, more urban audience. What the guitarist admires about “Witches

Stew”, though, is its inclusion of everything that happened post”Bitches Brew”—everything from EDM to jungle music to industrial. Everything that evolved out of the acid-funk origins of Miles’ music. “We see ourselves as trying to make the kind of genre-less music, the uncategorized sounds, for which Miles was always reaching,” says Smirnoff. Great as that disc is, Lettuce has their own stunning originals. There are plenty of them on their 2016 Mt. Crushmore release. But the highlight is the slamming groove of the title track (courtesy of drummer Adam Deitch) and how it pairs with those haunting female Spaghetti Western vocals that double the horn lines (arranged by saxophonist Ryan Zoidis and trumpeter Eric Bloom) is astounding. It’s a very cinematic styling for the usually gritty Lettuce. The band was able to continue those thoughts with a one-off show in collaboration with the Colorado Symphony in November at the Denver Performing Arts Complex’s Boettcher Concert Hall. “It came out better than anyone else expected,” says Smirnoff of the recent performance. “It was so emotionally moving that there were tears onstage. I can’t wait for people to hear that specific recording.” For Lettuce, it’s all about emotional content. Today, despite the remarkable advances in recording technology, bands for the most part sound like they’re all imitating the same handful of vanilla indie-rock acts. Does Smirnoff think music, particularly funk and jazz, have lost their higher purpose? “I can’t speak for other musicians, but I definitely feel like I have more confidence in myself when I play with the individuals in Lettuce,” he insists. “They make me feel better about myself, and I’d like to believe our music is elevating and uplifting for others to experience. I see evidence of it every night we play out.” Funk jams, when done the Lettuce way, move you—your body responds. But then Lettuce blows your mind with their intellectual

PHOTO ALEX VARSA approach and blistering technique. Indeed, you know the guys in Lettuce had played their instruments for many years before they could get onstage and rock. No computer can simulate it. No software can emulate or harness the organic power of live music. “All of us in this group strive to find that balance between mind and body and spirit,” says Smirnoff. “Sometimes we draw inspiration from the audience. We all get a lift from playing for people who love and feel and appreciate music.” Lettuce hasn’t put out a lot of records (six albums in 26 years, if you consider the band formed in ’92), so when one arrives it’s an event. What keeps these guys from churning them out at a feverish pace like groups did in the old days? “I think everyone has their own unique artistic pace,” says Smirnoff. “Bands are not in a race with each other. You’re only in a race with yourself to see how far you can get, and 2019 will be an extremely prolific year for Lettuce.”

’m Elly Novelo, the manager at Kush Life Smoketique & Tattoos in Downtown Las Vegas. I’m twenty-five years old and I was diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of eight, as well as psoriatic arthritis. I’ve undergone numerous treatments in the last seventeen years- everything from pills, topicals, injectables and phototherapy. None of the options prescribed to me ever work, instead the topicals made my skin drier, the pills left me with mood swings (as they warned they would) the injections landed me in the ER, and phototherapy was simply frying my skin and sucking all the energy out of me. All of these treatments were only working on masking my conditions. Growing up, everyone just thought I was unfortunate to have dry skin, the dandruff was mistaken for a dry scalp, and the depression and anxiety attributed to a personality flaw. In reality, it was the beginning of a misunderstood and poorly treated journey for me. Psoriatic arthritis means living with constant inflammation and stiffness in all my joints. It has affected the way my skin looks, and sometimes, when I have a flare up, I not only end up with pain, but with a foggy head. Throughout the last five years, I’ve been exploring my own self-care through cannabis. I have proved to so many people that natural remedies do work, that cannabis does work. I smoke cannabis to help my chronic pain and it helps enormously. Topicals made with marijuana have cleared up my psoriatic skin discolorations, scabs, and dry patches incredibly. In the past I was constantly itchy, I would scratch my skin until it would bleed. I myself have witnessed firsthand the magic of cannabis. It has helped me deal with the life long disease in a pain-free way. I started making THC and CBD lotions for myself and rapidly saw a change in the inflammation on my joints, and the way my skin looks, which eventually motivated me to start my own line, Smooch’s Cure. Later I started helping my mother and grandmother, who finally accepted marijuana as a medicine instead of a drug (as much of society sees it) after seeing the curing effects it has had on me.

My relationship with cannabis is smoking it daily whether it's Flower, Vape Oils or Concentrates in my Hippy Trips Vaporizer along with THC/CBD capsules I make myself. I use my hygiene products daily, which all have THC or CBD as an ingredient; soaps- deodorant, shampoo, body lotion, etc. After I moisturize my body and face with infused organic coconut oil, I use hand lotion, Chapstick, and even my makeup primer, all infused with THC or CBD, because even make up makes me flare-up. I also indulge in CBD/THC drinks such as water, ice teas, and more which calm down my inflammation. Other drinks, of any kind, can cause an allergic reaction or flare-up. I also add CBD to my food making my relationship with what I’m feeding my body healthier and more beneficial. I have been a cannabis advocate since the age of thirteen trying to spread my testimony to the world, state to state and even going International to a few other countries. I accept every opportunity presented to me as a result of my hard work and networking, even when being in the background and shadows of the cannabis community. We work together in an atmosphere to heal one another, instead of making it a political thing. My long term goal is to keep informing others on how to manage and cure their skin conditions caused by psoriasis or any other chronic illness. I am expanding my platforms and working towards becoming an official spokesperson for this worldwide issue that no one really pays much attention to. People say “oh, it’s just dry skin.” NO! Psoriasis is much more than that. I will keep pushing and helping those without knowledge until cannabis is removed from Schedule 1 in the United States, so cannabis can be more available to the 7.5 million Americans suffering everyday. Once I got off those pharmaceutical drugs, I started doing much better. I want to build a platform to reach the 125 million people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis across the world. My Aunt Janice helped me with a down payment for little red Nissan truck, and via word-of-mouth, I eventually had more than 30 clients I designed, planted and maintained flower beds in high-end neighborhoods where I grew up in the South Bay of Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, back in the garden… Soon, chamomile was added to my plant cornucopia, with the ability to replace the valium I had needed for anxiety. It

I raised my daughter eating out of the garden, but didn’t realize until later that when they told us to eat our fruit and vegetables, they should have told us it was a matter of life and death, because it is. We grew our own food, but I didn’t fully understand the importance of what it means to the well-being of our bodies to eat an abundance of produce, herbs, and spices to prevent major illnesses until I moved up to Humboldt County and presented with breast cancer. From Pharma to a Plant Because I was working in media in the cannabis capital of the world, I was lucky enough to be given cannabis oil by longtime Southern Humboldt farmer and remedy maker, Pearl Moon, of The Bud Sisters. The first night I took the oil I didn’t need the sleeping pill I’d relied on for years; the next day I no longer needed the painkillers for chronic pain from a partially disabled knee. In two and a half weeks, upwards

also quelled pain when used as a topical – in the same way CBD (cannabinoid) only or cannabis salve would. A study found indicated chamomile is also an antioxidant, killing cancer cells in a lab study; with yet another study showing an ability to combat depression. I take a chamomile concentrate daily, as needed for anxiety and at night preventing hormonal depression from Thyroid Disease with menopause. I take a cannabis cap each night, replacing sleeping pills and keeping the cancer and pain at bay. The next plant to come into my radar in a big way was super food, stinging nettles. During a trip to the Southern Baja

desert, I was suffering greatly from a bout of allergies that drove me to bed. After asking for help on social media, I was enlightened to nettles, and steeped some dried flowers in gin. After making a tonic on ice with lots of lemon, my sinuses were cleared up in literally minutes. Before synthetic formulations were patented by pharmaceutical companies, we used plants to heal. Apothecary, the method of making remedies from plants was used around the world, not pharma. With the knowledge of the healing benefits of superfoods, or super plants, silenced and eventually distrusted. “Better Living through Science,” was the mantra echoed via the Industrial Revolution for decades. Beyond CBD With the realization that other plants might be able to help me as well as cannabis had, this past summer I was given a new product to try from Emerald Health Bioceuticals, said to feed the endocannabinoid system (ecs) that accepts the beneficial compounds from plants into our biological systems in the same way cannabis does. With the tagline, “Beyond CBD,” the product compounds contain complex superfood benefits that prevent numerous negative ailments, including inflammation and infection, as well as antioxidant properties - preventing against cancer; adjusting blood sugars and regulating hormones. To test this product I decided to forgo the chamomile cap at night and began taking two caps of Endo Bliss, a combination of beneficial herbs said to promote a “positive mood outlook,” while supporting the ecs. Main ingredients in the Bliss formulation

include Saffron powder, and “PhytoCann” complex; a proprietary blend of six proven herbs and botanicals to activate the ecs in the same way cannabis or CBD does. As listed, the complex includes, clove oil, black pepper, ginger, Echinacea, peony, and magnolia. BCP, the other beneficial compound A few years ago I did a story on cloves and its abundance of Beta-caryophyllene or BCP, as noted in the following excerpt:

The paper goes on to state, since the team knew Cannabis strains vary wildly – especially in oil delivery preparations – five “commercial” Cannabis essential oils lacking CBD were tested in young mice during this controlled study. The conclusion stated that BCP, taken with a daily intake of 10 to 200 mg. “could be a dietary factor that potentially modulates inflammatory and other pathophysiological process via the Endocannabinoid System.” The first day of taking two of the Endo Bliss capsules, I felt as uplifted as I had with the chamomile in a very short amount of time, and I didn’t need to take a chamomile cap in the daytime, as needed for anxiety. I continued to take two a day until the bottle was gone, or about 30 days. Then, I purposely didn’t take the chamomile cap to note the difference. In no time my anxiety and a lower mood reared its ugly head, and I resumed taking the chamomile concentrate in capsules. I can assuredly say, the product worked for me. Other proprietary combinations by Emerald Health Botanicals include, Endo Sleep, Endo Inflame, Endo Calm, and Endo Brain – providing clarity of mind, focus and cognition, to name a few positive benefits.

Cannabis also contains a little known compound called Beta-caryophyllene or BCP, said to nearly mimic CBD with no psychoactive properties, found in the most fragrant herbs and spices, such as oregano, black pepper, and cinnamon. In a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences July of 2008, a team of pharmacology and neurology experts from Switzerland, Italy, and Germany reported that BCP is in fact a dietary cannabinoid, responsive to both CB1 and CB2 receptors within the Endocannabinoid System. The findings named BCP as a “potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of inflammation, pain, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis.”

go-to for herbal combinations for a myriad of ailments. Curious about a sleep combination in a bag filled with pieces of bark and leaves from lilac, orange blossom, purple toronjil,

orange leaves, and pyracantha, I brought it home to experiment. Instructions said to steep in water for a strong tea to aid in sleep. I decided to make some capsules using the same alcohol reduction recipe for cannabis oil, using a 96 percent alcohol sold in Mexico ($7 U.S. a liter). The results were nothing short of astounding, as just one capsule knocked me out, inducing a deep sleep, with no negative side effects, as I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day. Walk down a tea isle in the U.S. and it’s a cornucopia of scents and flavors, but Americans don’t really look to the isle for remedy. In Mexico, there are but a handful of teas on market shelves – all medicinal: chamomile, lemon balm, hibiscus, and my favorite, Siete Azores, or Seven Blossoms – with seven beneficial plants in one tea, used as prevention and remedy. For optimum health and prevention, humans need to get back into the garden. Cannabis is great and it’s beneficial compounds cover many basis; but, it’s also just another super food - a gateway drug to other plants that heal.

UnderRated Music and cannabis are my favorite things, so I was stoked to hook up with rapper/producer and Humboldt County native, UnderRated, in his studio to check out the new album he’s doing with Garth Vader called “Black Markets Matter”, and sample an exclusive new strain called Hello. We’ve been in the same circles for twenty years, but this is the first time we’ve actually gotten together to chill and smoke. The tracks are bangin’ and the strain is straight fire. It was really cool to hear what it was like to grow up in the mecca of cannabis, and have a Humboldt native explain the real-life effect legalization has had on this beautiful and infamous county.

UnderRated: What we’re tokin’ on is this strain called Hello that me and my homie from CSI Humboldt put together. Really, CSI Humboldt put it together. I was there with him, and grew some as well, and then we put the phenos together and it turned into what we’re smokin’. I rolled up something from all the phenos we picked to see what you thought. Hopper: You were born and raised in Humboldt County. What was it like growing up here? UnderRated: When you’re young you don’t know what you have until you look back and you go ‘Oh Shit! I grew up in a whole different area that’s not like anywhere else.’ I’ve been doing music for a long time. I’ve toured and seen all these different cities and different places. I didn’t know when I was growing up how different Humboldt was and how amazing it was. Nowadays you talk about hippies, but back when I had hippie parents and a hippie

Hopper: To me, the hippie lifestyle is being kind and treating people right, and to me, that’s the way to live. I guess I’m a hippie! UnderRated: Exactly! That’s how growing up here was, and I’m happy that I could be a part of that. Now I make music and tell people that it’s okay to get along, Bro. It’s not corny. It’s tight. In rap music a lot of the time, it doesn’t come off that way. I’m happy that Humboldt was my upbringing and that I fell in love with music at the same time and now I can discuss that vibe and the change in Humboldt.

UnderRated: Right, you already know how the vibe is. But here’s the thing, Bro. It used to be more the vibe of that. People weren’t growing weed to make a lot of money. They were growing weed to chill and to live, to feed their family, not to get rich. Other people want to say that all the weed growers are doin’ illegal things and not paying taxes, but when everyone’s putting back in to the community, that’s where the businesses start and everyone works together. Hopper: That’s dope. That’s what I love about it here. That’s why I was bummed at how the Netflix documentary “Murder Mountain” portrayed Humboldt like people are getting murdered left and right. What are your thoughts on it? UnderRated: It’s hard to put into words, but the vibe of it is so…like my vibe of Humboldt and my parent’s vibe and our friend’s vibe is the real hippie vibe. You make sure the people you kick it with are happy, and they make sure you’re happy, and life is

good. That’s what Humboldt is. When “Murder Mountain” came out, they didn’t show that. It showed a bunch of violence because that’s the storyline. It made me feel bad, because a lot of people are just gonna look at the negative things. Hopper: Yeah, they really exaggerated the negative aspects. UnderRated: Yeah, it’s for tv so I understand but I want people to think of Humboldt for the reasons I think of Humboldt. It’s not about violence or greed, Humboldt was originally about living together. I feel like we’re in a time where someone needs to say that shit through music, and I feel like I can say it and communicate it. Hopper: Speaking of that, I’m really diggin’ the new music. Tell Vegas Cannabis Readers about the new album you’re doing with Garth Vader. UnderRated: The “Black Markets Matter” album is basically what I was saying earlier about how Humboldt has changed. The idea is that the whole legal aspect of weed holds such a positive thing in people’s minds. How long have people been saying they want weed to be legal? Fuck yes, I want weed to be legal! The problem is that the people who are making it legal, are making it legal for themselves. They’re not making it legal for the people. People don’t see that, they want to vote legal

because they want it to be legal, and that makes sense. What’s happening is the small farmers don’t have the money to register. It’s not set up for them. I’ve seen a lot of things where people are spending their life savings just to kind of get to a place where maybe it’ll work. That’s a scary thing for people to do. The way Humboldt has always made the community work has been growing weed and governing ourselves. So when you flip it around where the only people who are able to be involved are people that have a lot of money, it’s bad for Humboldt in a certain way. I don’t want people to think I think that people who have to go with it…like I’m not hatin’ on you. It’s cool if that’s what you want to do. I just want people to understand that the black market is getting shit on. What about the people who grew for hella long and that’s how they live? Everyone used to grow a little bit of weed to survive, not to make a million dollars. Hopper: They’re really robbing the lifestyle, the culture. That’s what the corporate takeover is doing, it’s sucking the soul out of it. UnderRated: Exactly bro, you’re super right about that. It’s those things that get me. It doesn’t get me mad, but it gets me where I want to communicate that this is where I’m from, this is what we do. I understand the world changes, but only certain people are making it, and it’s like fuck

the others. Kids who just wanna go to the store to buy an eighth, they don’t understand what’s going on in the background. My community’s gonna feel it and I’m gonna tell you how it feels. I’m like the voice of the people around me. Hopper: Being from here, growing must be part of your DNA. UnderRated: Honestly, I haven’t been growing that long. I’ve been around growing my whole life. For the last 20 years I’ve been making music. That’s what I’ve been focusing on. I’ve grown at different times, I’m not gonna say I haven’t, but it’s not like I’ve been growing my whole life. I’m a rapper that’s been in Humboldt my whole life. You know what I’m sayin’. Hopper: You’re immersed in the culture. UnderRated: Yeah, but when you go on tour though, how are you gonna… Hopper: That’s what I was just about to say. I’ve had to balance a grow and a tour, it’s not easy. UnderRated: You can’t. Usually if something doesn’t work for me, I’m less inclined to recommend it and we stop carrying it. But if it works for my broken down old ass, more than likely, I can tell you how and why it will work for you.

WITH ROB RUCKUS Ok, this is one of those “I just got off work” rants. Get ready. What the hell is it with you guys? Cannabis users (not all of them of course) are the most self entitled, paranoid pains in the ass! Now granted, there are NOT enough educated Budtenders out there. The industry has a long way to go. I know this will piss some folks off, but I think there should be a class you have to pass to be allowed to serve customers, just like food handlers, bartenders, and pharmacists. A certain amount of knowledge should be mandatory in this business. A class and a card would take care of that. But for those of us who are educated in cannabinoids, terpenes, and the symptoms of many different diseases and their effects, I don’t need your self entitled ass telling me what you need and talking down to or over me when I’m trying to explain to you what I know, and have studied for years; had you asked me about that, you might actually get the help you’re looking for. Again, this is a new field to a lot of people. It’s hard to find the right information about what actually works and what is straight bullshit. When you walk up to me and tell me you need the “highest THC” it really hits me in my heart. I know it just means you’ve been told by “a friend” (and your friend usually doesn’t know what they are talking about) you are just falling for some marketing bullshit. The reason it hurts, and the reason I try to explain to 90% of the people who say it to me, is that it’s not true. I’ve been through it myself. Lab results are not regulated to a level where all labs will give the same readings. The same bud could go to four different labs and get four different results. If you keep going to the labs with the higher numbers, suckers will buy more of your product! The rest is sold for processing into vapes and edibles. Another thing I’ve noticed is that usually that the cheaper strains have higher numbers, and most craft grown strains are more expensive and show lower numbers. The only reason for this that there could possibly be is that it is marketing bullshit! I can say for sure of the products I sell at Inyo, I’ve tried every single one. I pride myself on it. If I didn’t get a sample from the company that made it or I didn’t get it through the shop, I’ve purchased some to try it for myself. All companies should be sending us samples so we can confidently let customers know our experience. Although everyone is different, an educated opinion from someone who has actually tried a product almost always makes for a better sale.

The reason I’m using “self entitled” repeatedly, is because of the discounts thing. Now I realize the business is what it is now and competition is a huge thing, but we don’t get commission on what we sell (at least at my shop we don’t,) we work on an hourly wage. We took this job because we love getting people what they need to feel better and it’s a pretty goddamn fun job most of the time too! But getting people what they need and getting it to them at the lowest cost we can to make them happy and want to come back part, is what I’m getting at here. Being pushy and demanding discounts because you think you deserve one is kinda bullshit, too. Do you always get discounts at the bar for being local? Does 7-11 do Veterans discounts? Does McDonald’s give a disabled discount? There is no other industry I know of which gives out so many discounts. What I’m getting at is, treat us right and I can guarantee you we’ll treat you right. Talk to us as friends, or at the very least, respect us enough to be nice to us. Don’t walk up and start demanding discounts before you even order. Have a conversation, treat people right, be pleasant instead of acting like we’re gonna try and rip you off. I can guarantee we’re gonna try to get you the best we can at the cheapest price possible. We like seeing you get what you need and being happy about it. Selling sunshine, Baby! But we don’t need to be barked at that you’re local, a Veteran, a student, disabled, a senior, a male, a female, a dog lover, a vegetarian- you get the idea. Again, treat us right, and I can assure you we are going to discount all we can. The whole “you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar” thing, you know what I’m saying. Some things to keep in mind: • We can’t do anything about the price of the products. • We can’t do anything about the state taxes. • We can’t do anything about those pain-in-the-ass “exit” bags. You have to do that! Get involved, fight for change and progress! • We are here to sell you the best products we can at the best price we can get it to you for so that you feel better. Please keep that in mind. We’re on your side. If you come across a Budtender that doesn’t know their shit, ask for one who does. If there isn’t one, you can always just come see me. A great example is Shepherdâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Pie. The meal itself can be broken up into two. Mash potatoes, sauce and vegetables and meat. Combined is a match anyone can love.

Sexy Shepherdâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Pie Meat And Vegetable Medley Ingredients 1 lb. ground hamburger 1 diced red bell pepper 1 diced red onion 2-diced carrots 2-diced zucchini 1 can peas 3 minced garlic cloves 1 TB fresh thyme 2 TB minced fresh parsley Salt and pepper

Directions In a large skillet, brown the hamburger with the onion bell pepper carrots and garlic. Drain fat. Once browned add zucchini and herbs. Reserve the peas until constructing the shepherds pie.

Mellow Mashed Potatoes Ingredients 7 lbs yukon gold potato 2 c. sour cream 2 cups milk 2 C. cheddar and Monterey jack cheese 2 sticks of butter infused with your favorite THC and CBD distillates. 1-3 grams depending on how comfortable you are trying to get. Salt and white pepper Directions Boil potatoes until tender. Start mashing the potatoes. Add infused butter and start whipping adding milk and sour cream until smooth and sexy. Reserve the cheese for later.

The Sauce Ingredients Â˝ diced onion 2 sliced garlic cloves 3 cups beef broth 1 C rum 4 TB cornstarch 2 TB infused Sriracha butter 2 grams fresh keif Directions Saute onion and garlic then reduce with the rum. Add the broth, cornstarch and Sriracha butter until melted. Set aside.

Roasted Garlic Sriracha Butter Ingredients 1 head garlic roasted with infused THC olive oil 1 gram distillate 3 TB Sriracha hot sauce 2 sticks salted butter Directions Roast 1 garlic head chopping off the top and drizzling infused olive oil inside and around. Smash the roasted garlic then whip the Sriracha hot sauce and butter until smooth. Now we have all our components to create the Sexy Shepherdâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Pie. My favorite roasting is in a Dutch Oven. Pour the vegetable and meat mixture on the bottom of the pan. Pour the peas and spread evenly. Pour the sexy sauce and make sure it is evenly distributed. Carefully cover the mixture with the mashed potatoes topping with all the cheese. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 40 minutes.

White Chocolate Fallen Phoenix Souffle with Pumpkin Pie Spiced Sangria Reduction and “Princess Perps” Whipped Cream Many of us (if not all of us) have looked for, and been asked for, a second chance. It’s all about the journey, the lessons along the way. We all grow like the phoenix. We rise and recover, ready to venture back into the mating game. But as we take to heart our own rebirth and renewal after an ending, we are tempered and open again. A souffle is at its peak of perfection “a la minute” or fresh out of the oven. A fallen souffle is a phoenix rising again. Crisp outside, smooth chocolate inside- an ideal way to share continuing or new born again beginnings.

Princess Perps Whipped Cream

Cannabutter: ¼ oz. flower of choice (Decarbed), (Princess Perp is a hybrid probably from Cinderella 99) ½ lb. Salted butter- Chefs Note: (Salt adds flavor, but also balances cloyingly sweet, European butter usually has a higher fat content, i.e. flavor). Melt the butter on low heat, add flower and simmer for 30 min to an hour, strain and cool. Whipped Cream: 1 C. Heavy Whipping Cream ½ C. powdered sugar (If you have an electric mixer that is ideal but heavy whipping cream in a metal bowl with another bowl underneath filled with ice water will work as well) Whisk cream with ½ C. powdered sugar until very stiff. Add cold cannabutter and gently fold into whipped cream.

Sangria Reduction Recipe

Leftover wine (red & white) 1T. Pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, allspice, ginger & nutmeg) 1 Lemon, lime & orange (zest & juice) Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce liquid by 80% set aside to cool Any souffle recipe will work, but adding these two sauces will, as an old chef mentor of ours Emeril Lagasse used to say, “Kick it up a notch, now go make some friends!”
