President’s Message...Cherie Wood “We finally have our party back!” This was the sen ment I heard from several people who a ended the Clark County Republican Party elec ons on Wednesday, July 17th at the South Point Hotel & Casino. As one of the 40 GOP leaders who a ended the mee ng in Laughlin last December to brainstorm on how to “take our party back”, these exclama ons made me realize we had finally accomplished our goal! It was a difficult journey for all of us. A ending the CCRP central commi ee mee ngs under the regime of Cindy Lake and her board was like going to the den st for a root canal without any Novocain. Excrucia ngly painful, did not begin to express the heavy‐handed leadership these “leaders” displayed every me. From the constant by‐law changes to the delayed no ce of Calls, agendas, guilt‐driven prayers that did not conform to all religious beliefs, the list of histrionics was endless. Not one me did they make a posi ve difference for the party. Cindy Lake’s leadership was singularly one of constant divide and (to try to) conquer—much like the Democrats’ party line. Her supporters, such as Chuck Muth will never realize the taint of their small‐minded vision and divisive ways. So on July 17, 2013, that all finally changed. Thank God “We finally have our party back!” As President of Ac ve Republican Women of Las Vegas I would like to congratulate the new slate of Clark County Republican Party officers elected Wednesday night, July 17th and a SPECIAL acknowledgement to all three of the women officers who are Nevada Federa on of Republican Women: Maureen “Mo” Karas — Vice Chair — ARW Member Melody Howard — Precinct Director — ARW Member Kathy Njus — Secretary — North Vegas Valley RW Member WOMEN = RESULTS Dave Mckeon — Chair — Associate ARW Member Mat Passalacqua — Treasurer Nick Phillips — Poli cal Director Rick Houghtelling — Community Rela ons Director — Associate ARW Member We support each and every one of you! Legislative Corner...Melody Howard SUPPORT OUR REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES
Greetings! We need volunteers interested in serving as Precinct District Managers, Precinct Captains, and neighborhood representatives to help our candidates win at all levels of government. You are qualified if you are a registered Republican, have an interest in talking to your neighbors more about Republican values, and have a little bit of time to spare.
We will conduct our first Precinct Captain training meetings on: Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. (location to be announced) Seating is limited so please RSVP to me at (702) 400-6021 or email: Precincts@clarkgop.org.
Your service as a Precinct Captain could be the single most efficient means of delivering votes on election day. The Precinct Captain system has been proven in many other states to work. It only takes one person to make a huge difference - and we want that difference to come from YOU! Become a Precinct Captain What is a Precinct Captain? A Precinct Captain is a person who is responsible to the Clark County Republican Party for his or her precinct. Your primary responsibilities are: *
Communication: Improve the flow of communication from the Party and local candidates down to the citizens, and more importantly, from the grassroots level up to Party officials. In a way, precinct grassroots democracy is an alternative to the legislative or commission process, and it allows the concerned citizen another manner to have his of her voice heard on local issues.
Legislative Corner...Melody Howard (continued)
Communicate by door to door canvassing, distributing flyers, telephone calls, Adear neighbor letters,@ attending or hosting social events, meeting with local business leaders, putting up yard signs, or simply by talking to your friends and family when you see them. Education: Help educate the Republicans in your Precinct about local legislators, existing campaigns, the Clark County Republican Party Central Committee, Republican groups to join, volunteer opportunities, and, most importantly, how their voices can be heard! Appreciation: Provide constant appreciation to all volunteers and Republicans for taking the time to care about the Party, and for sharing their ideas and information. Motivation: Finally, the most important goal, help motivate your Republican neighbors in your precinct to stay involved, motivate your neighbors to register Republican, and ultimately, get out the vote! The Clark County Republican Party Needs Your Help All you need to do to get started is to send an email to me, Melody Howard, at Precincts@clarkgop.org, with your name, address, phone number, and Precinct No. (we can help with this if you do not know it). The rest is easy. You will receive a packet of information when you attend a training Aget-together.@ You will have a lot of fun, and a lot of flexibility, in running your Precinct in the best way you think is appropriate to achieve our goals. No special skills are needed, other than faith in our Constitution, belief in core Republican principles, some time to spare, and a desire for America, the State of Nevada, and Clark County to succeed in electing qualified Republicans. I look forward to meeting you to discuss your anticipated interest in serving as a Precinct Captain. Very truly yours, /s/ Melody Howard Melody Howard Precinct Director Victory 2014! Communications...Jennifer Barrier It is 1776. You are a proud, yet humble American. You feel blessed to be born on a con nent with limitless resources, boundless poten al, and the promise of a bright and auspicious future. You gaze to the west, and you marvel at the enigma of what lies beyond the fer le fields and lush forests for those intrepid enough to dare to dream. You are grateful to God for bestowing upon you this boun ful land and the wherewithal to live to your fullest poten al. Then you turn about, glare to the east, and remember that you are but a colonial, the subject of an imper nent, taciturn, and obtuse monarch who resides across the great Atlan c. You are suddenly reminded that those are his lands and his dreams, not yours. For years he has levied crushing taxa on and meddlesome, insufferable burdens on your livelihood. He has quartered his garrisoned troops in your homes, overtaxed you beyond your means, and arrogantly refused to address your protesta ons. Parliament will not accept American colonial representa ves into their chamber to redress your grievances. With the king’s war with France to finance, he looks to the affluent and prosperous American colonies to fund his dalliances and vainglorious pursuits. There is no end in sight to his abuses and lo y expecta ons. The burden is yours to bear and yours alone. These were the feelings of hopelessness and despair experienced by the American colonists. For decades they enjoyed a period of prosperity and rela ve tranquility, with marginal interference from the Crown. As me wore on, King George leaned more and more upon American prosperity to fund his many endeavors that the mother country could not produce. It was an affront to the average American’s sense of individualism that did not exist in the old country. American’s were not subject to the ins tu on of primogeniture that prevailed in Europe, where the eldest son inherited his father’s estate, leaving the other siblings with nothing. Although the king’s subject, an American colonial could s ll determine his own des ny, thanks in part to the loose, absentee governance of King George III. All this was ending as the king’s clutches on their dominion rapidly became intolerable. Americans knew they were special. The world in 1776 knew only tyranny, absolu sm, and despo sm as the way to rule its ci zens. They understood that it was the period of individualism and self‐government that brought about the prosperity they enjoyed. On that hot, balmy day in July, 1776, the delegates of the first Con nental Congress a ached their names to the Declara on of Independence, knowing full well that it could cost them their lives and their property. They were willing to incur the risk so they can live as free men to determine their own des ny, and that of their descendants. It is this legacy that s ll endures today for all to enjoy and prosper……..if we are to keep it.
Literacy...Molly Governs REQUEST FROM THE LITERACY CHAIR Later this month a new school year will be beginning. Please consider dona ng new or gently used chil‐ dren’s’ books suitable for grades Pre‐K through grade 6 for dona ons to schools with an underprivileged student body. Over the past few years ARW has donated hundreds of books to Las Vegas children for both classroom use and for the children to take home and start a library of their own. The gi of books from ARW are always gratefully received by the schools in our community. This is a great way for our communi‐ ty to get to know us and our concern for the community literacy needs. With Sincere Thanks, Molly Governs, Literacy Chair 9

Caring for American Soldiers...Patricia Derrick Labyrinth Meditation Center at the new VETERAN'S HOSPITAL, Las Vegas, NV
Includes rocks engraved with USO-provided inspirational messages, strategically placed around the wheelchair-accessible sidewalk, along the outer edge of the Labyrinth.
What is a Labyrinth: A labyrinth is a single-path maze built on the ground with a route that leads to the center of the structure. Veterans, families and community, will visit the labyrinth for inspiration and meditation or
simply meander the path leading to the center, just as the ancient Romans and Greeks did, centuries ago.
Labyrinths have been discovered in ancient Rome, Greek palaces and temples of Egypt. The labyrinth has always been a symbol for private meditation. In modern times, Labyrinths have become a destination for spiritual meditation and inspiration. The VA Hospital labyrinth, will be constructed on the grounds between the VA Hospital and the soon-to-be constructed Fisher House, address: 6900 N. Pecos Road in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The Fisher House will
house veterans and families of wounded veterans; a place where families of Veterans can spend the night while they await the healing of their loved-ones, at the Veteran's Hospital.
The VA Hospital labyrinth will be constructed of pavers (bricks) built into the foundation of the labyrinth, sur-
rounded by a widened sidewalk for wheel chairs, bordered by inspirational messages selected by USO Las Vegas and engraved in stones for everyone to enjoy as they lift their spirits and meditate. This VA Labyrinth will become a focal point for Veterans, families and community. "Labyrinth Meditation Center" will continue to serve and honor our veterans for many generations to come.
ARW (Active Republican Women) of Las Vegas, Nevada is sponsoring this worthy project and asking the Las Vegas community for donations. The project will be constructed in two phases; labyrinth (phase 1) and sidewalk
with engraved stones (phase 2). It is our hope that the project will begin immediately and be able to combine the two phases, but it is all dependent upon funding. Donations: $500 - $5000.
We need your help! To participate in funding, please send your donation to: ARW Treasurer, Las Vegas, NV C/O Treasurer: Priscilla Campbell 8940 Washburn Road LV, NV 89149
Questions: Call Patricia Derrick, Chairman: ARW 'Caring for the Troops' 702-804-1112
You will receive a Tax-deductible Donation Receipt and will be listed on the Roster of Donors. You will also be invited to the Dedication Ceremony and honored for your donation. Every donor will receive emails on progress and completion date.

Email us at ARWLV@ymail.com Perfect Quote Some people have the vocabulary to sum things up in a way that you can quickly understand them. The following quote came from someone in the Czech Republic who has it figured out. The quote was translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon.
Change is Good… The Nevada Republican Party has gone through a mul tude of changes over the past several years. First there was the Tea Party takeover, then came the Ron Paul Revolu on, fueled by then‐Clark County Republican Party Chair, Cindy Lake. The newest change is a comeback of the GOP conserva ves whose goal is to rein in the wandering party and re‐focus it on raising money and winning elec ons. The change began on Wednesday, July 17th, when Dave McKeon was voted in as the new Clark County Republican Party Chairman. As the GOP establishment favorite, Governor Sandoval is coun ng on Dave McKeon to pull together a united and robust party to help ensure that he is surrounded by other Republican state officers, par cularly the lieutenant governor office. Sandoval’s poli cal team has expressed their pleasure with the move to new leadership within Clark County’s Republican Party, which is the largest in the state. There will be plenty of obstacles to overcome as McKeon begins repairing the splintered party, the first of which is whether he can come persuade the tea party followers and the Ron Paul backers to work cohesively with the more moderate Republicans. He has been quoted saying, “I’m willing to work with anyone who is willing to work with me. I want to grow the party. I want to rise above all our differences. I want to win elec ons.” So, no ma er who you backed in this ghtly contested race, we are all Republicans and we need to come together as a cohesive party and back the victor, Dave McKeon, in his efforts to turn Nevada Red again!! —Anne e Barnes—
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a ci zenry capable of entrus ng a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of and Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, a er all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a mul tude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”

I am a Republican because…
I believe the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability
I believe free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I believe government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I believe the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I believe Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I believe Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
Finally, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
