Welcome to Riverside Training’s Winter newsletter. We have recently moved into new premises in Broad Street Business Centre and we thank Harry Drury for all his assistance. Our second group of Supporting Teaching and Learning has commenced in Spalding and we welcome new and old learners to Riverside Training. Riverside and Chiltern Training are delighted with the success of the Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification which is enabling classroom assistants in the Lincolnshire area to achieve the NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Teaching and Learning. This programme is being offered under the

Train 2 Gain programme. The Train 2 Gain funding has enabled us to train a full class of Level 2 learners and several Level 3 learners. The first group of learners are now completing their qualification and we wish them every success in their future careers. I am also pleased to announce we have recently commenced a further apprenticeship programme in Children’s Care learning and Development level 2 and this is going very well, many thanks to all our employers who are supporting these apprentices. Our partnership with Chiltern Training Ltd from Berkshire is working successfully and we have commenced further apprenticeship programmes at level 2 and 3. We are now commencing the new childcare qualification; if you are to offer a position for an apprentice we still have spaces. Technology and Language College; we would like to thank all the nurseries who are supporting these apprentices. We are currently working on increasing the range of courses we offer, we would be pleased to hear from you if there’s anything you would particularly like. New Training Funding Available Funding has been released from the Lincolnshire Workforce Development for the new qualification which is called Children and Young Peoples Workforce. We also have funding available for those of you who wish to commence your qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Apprentices available

We have had a busy start to this academic year and this included the introduction of several new courses.

Riverside Training, working in partnership with Chiltern Training, has begun further apprenticeship classes in Spalding. The inductions went ahead in August and the next induction is in January.

As NVQs begin to be replaced by the new diplomas and certificates, there is a lot of work going on to ensure the transition is as smooth and effective as possible. I know that we will all become busier and busier with the countdown to Christmas already started, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our employers for their continued support. The Comprehensive Spending Review - will it affect your training budget?

The simple answer is yes - indeed it already has done. Train2Gain, which has enabled so many practitioners to update their team leading and management skills, has already been limited to first time only qualifications—in other words, if you are over 19 years old and already have one qualification at level 2 or 3, then you’re not entitled to funding for another. However, if you do not already hold a qualification at either 2 or 3, then you will be entitled to funded training. Unfortunately, even this will

be cut by the end of this academic year as Train2Gain has been axed by the Government. They have given a commitment to honour the funding for all those currently in training or who start this year, but there will be no new starts after July 2011. We are currently in the fortunate position still to be able to offer T2G to first time achievers, so if you, or a member of your staff would like to do a “first” level 2 or 3 in childcare, then please call us as soon as possible to secure your funding.

Pediatric First Aid

Apprenticeship Wages From October 2010, Apprenticeships wages have changed to an hourly rate of £2.50. This replaced the system of a minimum of £95 per week.

The funding for apprenticeships is also limited to a “first” level 2 or 3 framework and for the moment, there is only one bite at the cherry. You are only entitled to do one full apprenticeship at each level. If however, you are over 19 years old and have not achieved a full apprenticeship framework in childcare, but do hold a level 3 qualification in childcare, you may still be entitled to funding for a full advanced apprenticeship in Management.

Our next paediatric first aid commences in January. This course meets the approval of the Local Authority and is consistent with guidance set out in the practice guidance of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Bookings are now being taken and the cost is £60.00 for the 12 hour course.

Vacancy Matching Service

Our offices will be closed from Friday 17th December 2010 until January 4th 2011.

The new online Vacancy Matching Service was launched recently by the LSC. Riverside Training in partnership with Chiltern Training is finding it has been a real success in placing learners with employers. Over the last few months we were able to match up 22 candidates with our vacancies. This tool has opened up our services

Stay Safe With the approach of winter and dark nights, we urge all our learners to stay alert, particularly on their journeys to and from the workplace and college. Don’t be a statistic! Here are a few simple tips which could make all the difference. * When possible, go home with friends or in a group. * Try only to use cash machines during the day.
