Vaughan Public Libraries

At Vaughan Public Libraries, we believe that we are here for everyone in our community, and that includes our teenage customers. We have great resources on our shelves, but our libraries offer teens a lot more than this. They act as safe, inclusive spaces where they can discover new ideas, develop their skills, and connect with their communities. VPL locations act as hubs supporting learning, as well as places to gather and relax.

In recent years, we’ve placed a lot of importance on revamping our teen programming to stay on top of the trends and needs of the current cohort. This includes the great programs you see in this issue, as well as special focuses on National Youth Week, study periods, and Summer activities. In recent months, we’ve also been revamping our teen spaces by adding TVs and new décor, and I’m pleased to announce that our refurbished teen room at Civic Centre Resource Library will be opening in January, with study tables, board games, comfy seating and a Nintendo Switch.

We’re also giving teens their own library card, recognizing that not everyone wants to be carrying around the same card they had when they were in elementary school. Our new library cards will be available in January, and any teenager who wants a new version is welcome to replace their current one at any VPL branch. It’s yet another way we’re saying teens are always welcome at the library!
