Using the social web for connecting Music Libraries and people Musasto is a weblog and a Facebook page maintained by music libraries in South-Western Finland (Turku, Raisio and Kaarina city libraries). The concept of a weblog (or “blog”) or having a Facebook page is not in itself anything new. However, the ways of using them are still in their infancy. With Musasto one of the aims has been to beneficially link music libraries to their patrons and to give the collections more pronounced coverage. This is achieved with prominent exhibitions, both physically in the library as well as on the internet. The blog is also utilized as a collective and collaborative medium for the library staff of different cities in the region. Furthermore, the blog has also been penetrating into new areas outside the library, of late. For instance, the blog has reached bars, as the music library’s staff have been playing as DJs and thus advertising the library’s collections in places that are possibly unaware of it.
