Merlie De Guzman, Financial Services Officer (Aboriginal Affairs Canada FSO) came to our community on February 17th to meet Chief and Council and Senior Managers for general overview discussions on MLIB’s General Assessment. o The meeting was very successful with very positive feedback from Aboriginal Affairs. o We’re very excited in continuing our positive relationship with Aboriginal Affairs (formerly known as INAC). o She supported that MLIB continues to have very good financial management practices in place and meet deliverance of programs and services. o Congratulations to Chief and Council and Administration for their hard work. Congratulations to Alan Inyallie and Marion Jackson who have been appointed to the MLIB Finance Committee for a Term of 1 Year. An Employment Liaison Coordinator has been hired to assistant MLIB members and other First Nations to complete training initiatives so they can gain long term employment at Mt. Milligan. The Mine will start full production in 2013.
o This is a fantastic opportunity so members can start Saving for their Retirement or invest their hard earn cash. Administration is very excited with the new Controller, Michael Shaker, coming on Board. Michael is a CPA and former Auditor with Deloitte. In the short time he’s been here he’s made changes to ACCPAC, Payroll and Accounts Payables and streamlined the Chart of Accounts. Michael will be incorporating more Controls into MLIB Accounting. We look forward to all the new and exciting changes in Accounting. I’m excited about the path MLIB is working towards and the positive and long term relationships we’re building with Industry, Government of all levels, First Nations and local businesses. Our ancestors have always welcome people and I want to be just like them, to embrace the changes and grasp the opportunities. The Tsek’hene Way!! ALWAYS SMILING
