‘My music is highly inspirational’ Continues from page 27 Listening to your songs in those days, one wonders what was passing through your mind when you wrote the songs? A lot of things are usually on my mind when I write my songs. I am a product of the environment I live in. So, I am affected by what I see, what I feel and what I hear. If the environment is shity shity then, I’m compelled to write songs condemning it. It is like a wind that comes to you; and you put it down. And when inspirations come like this; all I do is to write like the vessel that I am, I write down what the spirit tells me to write. And that is the reason my music is highly inspirational. It is not just about creating bits and that’s why my music has stood the test of time. I have written songs about 20 to 25 years ago and I am still collecting royalties from them. Did I hear you say your songs are inspirational and that you are led by the spirit? I am talking about the spirit of God; it is a mystic thing you cannot understand. Music is a spirit business. It takes the spirit of God for you to write good songs that would touch lives. Yes we have bad spirits, but I am talking about the good spirit which is the spirit of God. My songs influence people positively. How would you describe a negative song written by a reggae artiste? Reggae music is about

justice, truth and equality. And when a reggae artiste writes a song without the right message and not containing the qualities of a reggae music then, it would be called Slack lyrics. Bob Marley’s songs are good examples of solid reggae music. You are ageless. What’s the magic? It is the grace of God. I try not to eat late and even if I have to eat late it has to be fruits or vegetables. Again, I am filled with positive vibrations that also reflect on my outlook. Aside music, what else do you do for a living? I am a content provider. I am a TV producer. What I meant by being a TV producer is that I do a lot of stuff on TV these days. I have become a movie producer. I produced the popular soap titled ‘Alero.’ Alero has 52 episodes in it. I have a reggae malady where reggae artistes come to feature and many more things. What’s your dress sense like? I love dressing very casual and wearing comfortable outfits. At other times my wife advice me on what to wear and it works well with me. You talked about a wife; how long have you been married? I have been married to my wife for eighteen years and is still counting How long have you carried your dreadlocks? My dreadlock is real and I have carried it for fifteen years.

MCSN petitions FHC Chief Judge over transfer of case Continues from page 27 Williki in the petition said “We are parties in civil suit and criminal charges. All the cases are before Justice M. Yunusa of the Ikoyi, Lagos Division of the Federal High Court. Judgment was entered in favour of our organisation and officials in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/1163/ 12 between MCSN & 7 Ors vs. NCC & 4 Ors on March 18, 2013. “The other three cases are criminal matters. Rulings were reserved for May 6, 2013 on two applications brought by us, the accused persons, in charge No. FHC/L/CS/351C/2012 and Charge No. FHC/L/352C/2012 seeking to quash the charges on the basis that the charges were incompetent and do not exist in the statutes of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or that they have been declared unconstitutional, null and void. A similar application was filed by our organisation and other accused persons in charge No. FHC/L/353C/2012, which was adjourned for hearing last Monday. “However, since the judgment in the civil suit No. FHC/L/CS/1163/12 of March 18, 2013, Justice Yunusa has had cause to complain in the open court of series of pressures being mounted upon him with respect to cases pending before him involving our organisation and the Nigerian Copyright Commission, C M Y K

NCC. Specifically, on April 19, 2013 or thereabout, when our counsel appeared before him seeking for an order for substituted service in an application bothering on contempt of the court against certain officials of NCC. “We were surprised that as at May 6, 2013, when we got to the court for the fulings reserved for the day in charge No. FHC/L/CS/351C/12; FHC/L/CS/ 352C/12 and FHC/L/CS/353C/12, that the cases were not listed on the court’s cause list and all the files involving our company and the NCC before Justice Yunusa had been sent to Justice Okeke at his (Justice Okeke’s) demand. “The reason for this strange development was not given to us; and there was no time when any party in any of the cases complained against the handling of the cases by Justice Yunusa. We want to put on record before Your Lordship that NCC has since 1999 engaged in relentless persecution of our organisation and its officials and “forum shopping,” by bringing the same charge in different suits, now totaling 10 before different judges of the Federal High Court, with the hope to get a judge to convict us for doing the same business, which we have been doing legally since 1984; several years before the NCC was established in 1989, simply because the NCC wanted to hijack the business solely for a surrogate private company established by certain officials of the NCC.
