AGOS — OPERATIVES of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, are said to have arrested the mother of a gang member, who also served as the amourer to the group led by the notorious one-eyed robbery kingpin, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka Godogodo, arrested in Lagos, last week She was said to be the keeper of the rifles they used in raiding banks in Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states. Also nabbed, yesterday, was the

key receiver of goods stolen by the gang. The arrest resulted from the deployment of operatives to some South-Western states to track down members of the gang. According to a usually reliable source, “all the suspects are now in custody and we are bringing them to Lagos. “Godogodo confessed that Odun’s mother was the one keeping their arms in Ekiti and we have arrested her. He also gave us the details of the man who received their stolen goods including gold jewellery also in Ekiti.”

Victims storm police headquarters Meantime, at press time, some of the victims who survived Godogodo’s gruesome robbery attacks in Lagos State, were at the police headquarters in Ikeja to state their cases. Some of the victims told Vanguard that they were grateful that the law finally caught up with Godogodo. Also, the Ogun State Police command has refuted claims by the notorious South-West robbery czar, that he was arrested and incarcerated for a minor crime of fighting in 1999 which made him to spend seven years in prison.

Godogodo nabbed in 1999 for robbery, murder Sources from the Ogun State command told Vanguard, yes-

terday, that Godogodo was actually arrested in 1999 for robbery and murder, adding that he was charged to an Abeokuta court which remanded him. The source at the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, also told Vanguard that Godogodo spent less than the time he claimed in the prison in Ogun State, where he was remanded. The source said: “He was arrested for robbery and murder and not fighting as he claimed when he was interviewed. “Our records showed that Godogodo was never arrested for fighting, rather he was arrested for a more heinous crime and I doubt if he spent up to seven years in prison. “He got bail few months after his arrest and he jumped bail afterwards. As I speak with you, the command’s legal department is investigating how Godogodo got his bail.”

AGOS— THE Police in Festival town, Lagos, yesterday, arrested a mobile policeman for indiscriminate shooting and killing of a barber, while inflicting injuries on four others at AmuwoOdofin area of Lagos. When Vanguard visited the scene of the incident, sympathizers were seen in groups discussing the incident. An eye witness who spoke on terms of anonymity, said he was lucky to have escaped being killed by the policeman. “I had retired for the night when I heard gun shots outside. I hurried out to know what was happening only to come face to face with an incident that nearly got me killed. I saw one of the mobile policemen attached to a house in Chief Sunny Ebere Close shooting all over the place and staggering in the process. We all ran for cover. “I and one Emeka who resides here ran to the gate of one of the buildings close to the gate of the hotel, but before we could enter, the policeman fired another shot, which hit Emeka on the leg. “I fell down, pretending I was dead. That was actually what saved me, because when the policeman got to where I was, he left me and went after the other people. After he left, I got up and ran towards the estate gate. Surprisingly, Emeka got up and ran too. “In the process of shooting indiscriminately, he went to a barber’s shop and asked Bright, the barber, who was attending to a customer, to come out. Not suspecting anything serious, Bright

obeyed after which the policeman shot him at close range. “When the policeman saw that everyone was running for safety, he fired shots sporadically, in the process a pregnant woman called Ebere was hit on the hand by bullet. “Another victim, Nonso, was hit on his right eye and yet another victim simply called Tayo was hit on his thigh.” It was gathered that when the policeman discovered the gravity of his action, he escaped through the Golden Tulip Hotel but was later arrested by the Festac Police. Meantime, Bright’s corpse was deposited at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, IdiAraba morgue, while three of the injured are receiving treatment at the hospital and the forth victim is being treated at a private hospital in Festac Town, Lagos.

Scores injured as Alaafin son’s loyalists, Oyo lawmaker clash BY OLA AJAYI

BADAN — SOME peo ple were injured, yesterday, in Oyo town when supporters believed to be sympathetic to Mr. Akeem Adeyemi, son of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and a lawmaker representing Oyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Khamil Akinlabi clashed. During the period that the fracas lasted, dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, bottles and other items were said to have been freely used by the feuding parties. The crisis, according to a source, was triggered when a group of people, last Friday, marched to the palace of Oba Adeyemi allegedly pleading with the monarch for the recall of Akinlabi whom they accused of not making any remarkable improvement in the lives of the people in his constituency since he assumed the seat in 2011. Instead of the lawmaker, they clamoured for Prince Adeyemi to assume the seat in the National Assembly. But, a counter protest was staged, yesterday, in Oyo with loyalists of Akinlabi from Oyo-East, Oyo-West, Afijio and Atiba local governments, faulting the earlier allegations against the legislator. They displayed placards with inscriptions such as “Stop politics of bitterness”, "Kamil, man of the people”, ‘Kamil, hero of our time’ and went through major streets in Isale Oyo. Leader of the Akinlabi’s group, Mr. Waheed Ajagbe said it was not fair to say the lawmaker had not done anything, noting that “about 175 boreholes were provided by the lawmaker across his constituency. "He has distributed 16 vehicles to party leaders and Oyo Mesi (kingmakers). Akinlabi has also facilitated the construction of Erelu water project. "In the area of education, he has facilitated the rehabilitation of Olivet Baptist High School, Isale-Oyo Community Grammar School, distributed textbooks and notebooks for pupils at Primary School level.”
