Royal Bliss "Chasing The Sun"(Rock) www.royalbliss.com Review by Crystal Lee - 5/5 Dragons Chasing the Sun was funded by the fans and made for the fans clearly. Songs are relatable and hit a ton of emotions and themes. You can really see they put themselves into this album with "Home". This song is just Moving, Raw, Passionate and emotionalfLike much of the album. I hate using the word simple but they kept the song simple yet it's so effective and just sincere. It's no secret this band states how the music industry is and they are sick of the suits telling people what to listen to. Nothing more clearly shows that than the line "Cuz they don't write their songs, just hit the tracks and play along, while Jonny Cash rolls over in his grave" One line so much power. Other favorites on this album was of course the single "Cry Sister" Right away the first verse was right in your face and with a line " Me and the Devil in your mind want to settle the score" it personally caught my attention. You have a great guitar and music that blends with the passionate vocals you get a strong and incredible rock song with all the parts such as a lovable chorus, guitar solo, and a beautiful mellow section. No matter what the reviews will say one thing is clear this band put themselves into this album. For me this is an album for those who love rock, passion and really care about what a band is saying in their songs. As a new fan I listened front to back since there is not one song I did not love. Other Notable Songs - Drink My Stupid Away and Turn Me On

Slough Feg "Digital Resistance" (Heavy Metal) www.sloughfeg.com Review by Jeff Black - 4/5 Dragons San-Fran MVPs are back with another slab of institutionalized quirkiness. For the uninitiated, Slough Feg have been dancing circles around Heavy Metal for nearly 25 years, and were one of the few bands to keep the flame alive in the 90's when guitar solos went out of style. Dungeon Master Mike Scalzi is in fine form here, combining the modern story-teller philosophies of the late Phil Lynott with the cheekiness of Paul Dianno and delivering snappy riffs with fellow axeman Angelo Tringali. Rhythm section Maestas and Cantwell back up the proceedings with manic glee, giving the perfect bounce to "Magic Hooligan", while rolling a few tumbleweeds into the mix during "Habeas Corpus". If your idea of a good time involves second-hand 70's paperback adventure yarns with Thin Lizzy's Black Rose on the turntable, then blast "Laser Enforcer" in the car, at home, with friends. Drive out to a farmer's field and smash up your Blu-Ray players, smart phones and laptops a la Office Space. Nice to hear music with a message, eh? Be warned: it ain't pretty. The truth rarely is. 08 VandaiaMagazine.Com - March 2014

ROCK

The Intersphere "Relations in the Unseen" (Rock/Alternative) www.theintersphere.com Review by Lana Nimmons - 4.5/5 Dragons After a few years on the top of the German chars with Hold On, Liberty!, The Intersphere return with a brand new studio album: Relations in the Unseen. And instead of relying on formulas or formats, the band has decided to create their own rules. There's honestly no band to compare them to, The Intersphere have literally composed their own genre crossing borders from rock, metal, punk and indie. The quality of the songs is nicely balanced throughout the record. Like a jigsaw, every piece on the album serves the purpose of bringing together the powerful melodic lines and moving grooves, grappling at some fantastic music that is simply irresistible. Massive soundwalls of Relations in the Unseen are full of unpredictable twists and turns, the album showcases moments of cosmically raw and explosive power, scattered around patterns of vivid harmony, riveting rock grooves, and more. With this release, The Intersphere have immediately cast themselves as a vital new voice of rock. With the March 18th Relations In The Unseen, The Intersphere have succeeded at a return to self - and to the really important things in music. These Germans really know what good music is.

Crissi Cochrane "Little Sway"(Pop/Jazz) www.criSSiCOChrane.com Review by Eli ]ace Little Sway, the newest album from Crissi Cochrane, could be named after the movement of early budding flowers in spring's first breezes. The music is bright and eloquent, splashed with the colors of a botanical garden. It mixes modern American jazz with pop music structures in line with Nora Jones or Corinne Bailey Rae. "Sleep In The Wild," the opener has a crisp chorus with horns embellishing Cochrane's every vocal movement. The album celebrates a carefree existence, never getting too bogged down with heavy emotion. "I don't listen to the news no more/I just ride my bike to the liquor store," she sweetly swoons on "Be Around." Cochrane is from Windsor, Ontario, but has since found her place in Detroit, Michigan. Little Sway, the 10-song album, is her third full-length. It follows Pretty Alright, from 2011, and Darling, Darling, from 2010. A lovely constant of the album is the surging, billowing horn arrangements. They are controlled, undulating brushstrokes to her musical canvas. Obviously, here, the main highlight is Cochrane's voice. It remains front and center, breathing both innocence and assuredness, hitting the scale somewhere between Mirah and Victoria Legrand, of Beach House. I imagine the fibers of a dandelion escape her mouth with the pronunciation of every vowel. "Pretty Words" abandons the drums for a somber, meandering guitar strum. "If I'm not a fool for you / then I'm just a fool," Cochrane sings, allowing the emotion of the line to inflate on a stream of horns. The only song not penned by Cochrane is "The Man I Love," formerly by George and Ira Gershwin. Her voice carries the classic over a stable, poking drum machine. She plays the wounded notes of a flute. It is most sublime. Little Sway is perfect listening for when the snow melts and the days begins to stretch. 10 VandalaMagazine.Com - March 2014

EMPIRE SOUNDS ASYLUM THE UNDERGROUND ARTS MONTAGE MUSIC HALL BOGIE'S MIDDLE-EAST PALACE THEATER

Rollin' and ChiIlin' With The Music By Crystal Lee This past month has been a whirlwind of chaos - 95% all good but one needs to breath and what better way is than to hit play and play some amazing music. Also this month I have been what some call genre jumping but one thing that is consistent is that the artists are amazing. Yes I reviewed Royal Bliss and their latest album is on super high rotation but there are many other songs that made it on the list this month. There is a small label "Birds will Sing for you" over in Sweden that over the last few years has been sending us some really talented artists. One being "Long distance Runners" One song that caught my attention was "Can't Breath." This coming after a hectic week of staff being sick with the flu and then myself on the mend from high fevers and still working long hours. I plugged in this song to take a listen next thing I knew, I was by the fire place looking out on my lake view with a nice stiff drink. Some songs get you going while some bring you down to enjoy the moment. To be honest I have not just sat and looked out at the lake in months. What made it even better was both pairs of Eagles (Bald and Golden) were flying around. It was a moment of perfection with their vocals. The amazing part about music is it brings emotions out and they may not have anything to do with the lyrics. Christoffer Englund voice is smooth and poetic, along with a graceful piano brought calmness and yes first listen I only caught the chorus. For me it was reflection and this is a perfect song to get one to relax. Closer look it is a very passionate song about not being able to breathe without someone being there and how it is torture yet this song can be personal in many different ways. Right after came the song ''Rolling Stone" by Reuben and the Dark which was a round off to my relaxation time. This is a song one can imagine being played in an old western movie or even a modern mafia movie. Parts of the song are reminiscent of Frankie Lane (Google this legend) but this group made the style modern, beautiful and just so easy to listen to. Most of all I felt like I was back on the country road driving in the summer through fields of gold while I am looking out at cold white caps on the lake and snow falling! One more mention that must be shared is by a talented Hip Hop duo. I avoid writing about hip hop and rap since I sound very funny and out of place but going to give it a shot and had to mention Night Life by Young Planet. On the album "New Fast Automatic" there are many great songs yet this one grabbed me. Lyrics that means something blended with guitar, synth add in a beautiful chorus and MC skills. The Strumbellas BrealbiNew Ground Review and Photo By Gideon Greenbaum-Shinder

4, Gideon GreenbauiThShinder

The Strumbellas exude a certain character. They are clearly very comfortable on stage now and yet they still remain quite aloof and playful. Their live show displays the band's intense communal nature and not only with their fellow band mates. What can only be described as ecstatic mantras are peppered throughout their set. When the entire band starts singing in unison, "I will wait, I will wait, I will wait by the fire", you cannot help but sing along and feel a part of the club. The Dakota is also one of my favourite intimate venues, making it perfect for such an experience. The sound is always fantastic there. Last night featured a nice blend between lead guitar and violin solos and room for all of their powerful voices. The Strumbellas have constructed an amazingly intricate wall of sound for a group that was once known as a humble folk-rock band. They blend elements of bands like Arcade Fire and Old Crow Medicine Show into one multifaceted but simple style. Their lyrics are very much tangible, emotional stories that can be interpreted in a wonderful kind of generally applicable way. Their lead singer Simon Ward was striving ever so much (and succeeding) in looking like Bob Dylan during his weird can do anything' phase. Ward went into another world when he was singing and had his eyes closed in concentration for most of the set. At one point he stood on a chair in the audience for a paired down acoustic number and was swarmed by a sea of excited faces and iPhone cameras. I think that the moniker of folk-rock can no longer accurately describe this bands approach. In fact, they may have just broken some noteworthy new ground. I cannot recommend these guys more highly. The Strumbellas are playing another set at the Dakota next week, and play Toronto often. So keep watch, these guys are on the rise. How To Get Your Music Videos Seen By Emma Owens With 100 hours of video being uploaded to YouTube every minute and a quarter of this being music, an unsigned or independent artist with a new video is going to get lost. To upload your video and consider the job done is going to get you nowhere. Therefore we at Rormix want to give some advice on how to get your talent out there and more importantly, how to be seen by the right people.

Have a Quality Video Something that will separate you from all of those artists with photos to accompany their 'amazing new track' is a quality music video. This doesn't mean that you have to pay a director and a producer to create it for you...be creative. There are amazing apps out there now which allow you to record retro, film style videos which look great with music. A digital SLR set up on a tripod can be perfect to create a simple acoustic video but you MUST make sure you have a mic, people want to hear you sing. And believe me, bad content is worse than no content.

Use Twitter Twitter is a place a lot of people forget about when it comes to promoting their music - but choose your words wisely. Using specific hashtags has helped us promote videos in a more efficient way - #nowplaying and #MusicMondays are two examples of hashtags which your targeted audience actively search for. It's also a big time saver if artists leave their email address in their twitter description so that they are easily contactable.

Be Consistent Those of you who are on YouTube and have a subscriber base must be consistent with content. The subscriber base is your biggest weapon; they're your alpha fans - always coming back! So it is your responsibility to keep them entertained. It's difficult to film and upload a new track/video every few days but what you can do is give little behind the scenes sneak peeks which make your subscribers feel involved. They want to feel like they are a part of your journey and you should fulfill this. Live, acoustic sessions are always a big winner, the occasional cover, anything to keep your name in their minds.

Collaboration Put yourself out there! If you're trying to make your music into your business then just as with any other business, network network network. If you can collaborate with other artists, whether it's cross promotion, or a duet, it's extra exposure and an 24 VandalaMagazine.Com - March 2014

opening to a new fan base. Remember it's essential to work with someone who loves music as you do, because then if all else fails at least you're both doing something you're passionate about.

Get on a Platform (other than YouTube) It's essential to put your music in front of a targeted and motivated audience. Utilize those platforms that are out there, such as the Rormix app, that specialize in putting quality emerging content in front of people who want to see it. At Rormix we have a user base covering 100+ countries and these users are actively interested in unsigned/independent music videos. Using platforms like this can bring new fans in daily and get people sharing your music! This article is a guest post by Emma Owens of innovating music video app , whose mission is 'to bring high quality emerging music video content on demand to the eyes and ears of the listening public.' She very much agrees with me in that music video promotion certainly doesn't begin and end with Youtube. There are many quality music discovery platforms, apps, video-specific blogs, channels and social media options for your video, and as many as possible should be utilized. Emma takes you through a few ground rules below.

Interview With

douse' Weg

Interview and Story By Lana Nimmons

Iiiiterahigw. Jona Weimhofen Aussie Metalcore heavyweights I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN are back with them comes 'Beloved' their heaviest cut of metal to date! Like its predecessor 'Music For The Recently Deceased' the new album was recorded at Sweden's Studio Friedman, the birthplace of many a Melodic Death Metal masterpieces over the years. I had the distinct pleasure to chat with Jona Weinhofen about the making of Beloved, art, the state of the indie industry and the story behind IKTPQ signing a record deal with Epitaph. You're about to go on the Take Action Tour on March 12 in Ventura, CA with The Devil Wears Prada, The Ghost Inside, and Dangerkids. Take Action Tour 2014 is presented by Living The Dream Foundation, I've heard you are always involved in charities, could you tell me a little bit about that? Jona: I don't actually know that much about take action itself but the coolest thing about the tour inside is that I get to learn about that and I killed the prom queen is pretty big on charity and you know how to get different charities doing things with a positive message and a cause behind it. Organizations like seaShepherd, PETA, Animals Australia. We're four vegans and one vegetarian so we're pretty passionate about animal welfare that kind of thing. I also work with a charity here in Australia called the Carly Ryan Foundation which is based around informing young people on Internet safety and the dangers of internet predators and how to go about making it safe as possible when you're on the internet when you're a young person. That's just a couple of the things we normally work with and it's cool to be able to do a tour in the States which does have a positive message behind it not just getting out there playing shows for no reason. Another cool thing about it is that we're really good friends with the guys from the ghost inside and we both share management with them Devil Wears Prada so a tour like that is kind of fun because of the friend aspect it's going to be really awesome. I think we're actually going to be sharing a bus with the ghost inside too, so maximum hanging. I've never heard of the Carly Ryan Foundation, it's pretty amazing, in schools here they've started teaching kids about internet safety. It's hard when you have teens, teaching them the concept that everything posted is permanent is hard. Jona: You know, young people find themselves in chat rooms can I get added by strangers on the internet and that's the whole thing it's like you don't know who is on the other end of that chat unless you can physically see them. Basically the point of the foundation is to educate people against that because the foundation was started by a woman called Sonya Ryan and she was the mother of Carly Ryan. Carly Ryan was her 16 year old daughter who met a young guy on the Internet and decided to meet up with him and turned out to be an older man posing as a young person and she ended up being murdered by the man. Sonya has made it her life's work to stop that from happening with other people's children. Whoa, that's pretty intense. Jona: Now that's one of most extreme cases and nobody wants that to happen. I think it's really amazing that you're involved with so many different charities. Jona: We are in this position of influence with young people and we believe that its good to use that influence positively not you know there are so many bands out there going on tour and partying and doing drugs and drinking and whatever and whatever they might do they don't understand how that comes across to fans, young fans. These young people are saying I want to be a rockstar I go out and get drunk and party do drugs I do everything my favorite bands are doing not necessarily limiting to drinking and that's just an example of the kind of influence we do have on young people. I prefer to try and use the influence positively direct the attention to positive things to do instead of things which we might be into in our personal lives which might be damaging. March 2014 - VaridalaMagazine.Corn 29

That really sounds superb! Not to sound too superficial, but that must be difficult food wise when on tour with four vegans and one vegetarian! ona: We have been touring for a long time and most of us I have been vegetarian or vegan for quite a while. I personally have been vegan for 15 years so that's even longer than I've been touring full time. I find that when you have a lifestyle like that you just learn to work around it when you're put in the position we are out of your normal element when you're not at home and have access to the normal foods and clothes and things like that. We found it quite easy actually especially in the States I know our last tour we did last April and May with Asking Alexandria we had our RV which has really comfy beds and a little kitchen area, every few days we stop at a Whole Foods stock the fridge with food and vegetables, bought a little George Foreman grill so we can make our own toasted sandwiches and you know it's not so difficult when your use to it there's a few places we travel where that lifestyle is so big. Places like South America and Israel places where probably they don't know what a vegan is but when you been a vegan that long you kind of become resourceful you know what sort of things you can lookout for. For example in Israel all I ate was falafel and hummus so there's two totally awesome vegan foods. And there are websites as well we use like there's a website called happycow.net which is basically a network of all the vegan and vegetarian restaurants, grocery stores, or vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants all around the world, you just simply put in what city you're going to be in or what town and it comes up with a list of places, addresses of places you can eat. Being your first album since 2006, how would you say Beloved moves forward from Music for the Recently Deceased? Jona: You know as you said a lot of time has passed so in those 8 years. We have all individually dove into different musical influences and words with different bands. I played in Bring Me The Horizon and Bleeding Through, throughout the break in between the two albums. So I've been in two different bands with two different styles of music, two different styles of writing. We have learned a lot in that time and we wanted to kind of administer what we learnt from those different influences to I Killed The Prom Queen- but without changing our core sound too much. One thing that is true about I killed the prom queen originally we had a pretty unique sound back in 2006 and we are all big fans of that Swedish melodic death metal with a hardcore crossover. So we wanted to maintain that style but show what happens with new influences, and that we have matured as a band. In the end we wanted to add new elements. For example we have quite a lot of synth some life strings on the record, with a couple guest vocalist which is all the things we've never done before. IKTPQ entered the studio in 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden with Fredrik Nordstrom(Bring Me The Horizon, At The Gates, In Flames, Dimmu Brogir, Architects UK) to record Beloved- you had worked with Fredirk a few times in the past years, what was it like working with Fredirk Norstrom again? Jona: I Killed The Prom Queen recorded their last album there as well, so it was funny because we recorded the album and then we went on tour not too long after words with Bring Me The Horizon which was one of there first UK Tours supporting them and we show them our new record and they loved it so they ended up going there and recording. I've actually been there three times to record with Fredrick Studio Fredman obviously there's a reason for that, he's an awesome producer, he's a great guy, the studios fantastic, and we just come out with fantastic results, especially for our genre music. That's what drew us to him originally, being a huge fan of all the Swedish bands like, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, we then put two and two together and realized that it was the same guy recording all these bands, and that was one of the reasons why they sounded so good aside from the songwriting, it just has this world class sound. So we decided to take a risk back in 2005 to see if we could afford to fly to Sweden to record an album. It turned out really great and really helped solidify our kind of sound builder profile as a band on a worldwide scale, 30 VarulalaMagazine.Com - March 2014

Imteriviiew? Jona Weimhoferii that's why we decided to go back last year and record we just love it there and we didn't want to lose what type of signature sound that we have gained through working with Fredrick. The album is released by Epitaph, when did you guys join the label, how did it come about? Jona: We actually begun a dialogue with Epitaph back here, I think it was November 2012, so quite some time ago. I had already been working with Brett and Epitaph when I was working with Bring Me The Horizon. One of our favorite bands and peers that we grew up with and toured with a bunch in the early days, who is Parkway Drive was also signed with Epitaph as well. I think that they really have an affinity for Australian music as well, the heavy music genres. So one day I basically put forth the idea to Brett that I Killed the Prom Queen was going to write and release another record, and wondered whether he would be interested and he was very interested. We kept talking over the next 6 to 12 months, and it took us quite a while to get the deal happening, just because we had a lot on with the writing and obviously when you get a deal offer there's always a lot of negotiation, we also had a couple of other deal offers on the table as well comparing with them, but the whole time you know we thought Epitaph was going to be the right home for us. So we were really sticking closely to that. The funny part was you were supposed to sign the record deal before we went away to record in Sweden but we had some setbacks we went away recorded the album the deal was actually signed pretty much right at the end of the album recording. Which is an obscure way to do it- it really put a lot of pressure on the band because we had to draw extra money out of our own pockets to fly over to Sweden (which is not cheap from Australia), and then pay the studio deposit to record there. Usually bands get advances to pay for the recording itself travel and food that type of stuff. We basically covered the whole record ourselves, and it was a pretty difficult time because we haven't played too many shows at all this year, we were mostly writing the album. What are some of the lyrical themes running through the album? Jona: It varies quite a lot, but essentially most of the lyrics on the record tie into personal experience and things that we feel quite passionate about. Again going back to the message what do you want to send to our young fans: we didn't want to write too many sort of dark negative sounding lyrics, we had quite a lot of those on the last record, you know we were younger band and younger people then; we were sort of doing the same thing, writing about passionate experiences but I guess how do you know when you're growing up you have more negative points to draw upon. Things are more difficult when you get bullied, you go through difficult stages with your parents and family, and with Beloved it's kind of like we still have these difficult times. We wanted to write about the sacrifices but trying to put it in a positive light. Like for example we have songs about what it feels like to be a band that goes away on tour and spends the most of the year working away from your friends and from your family and how that impacts us and how we feel and how that can impact the people we care about. We also have written one song about animal rights and animal welfare, which we never done before. As mentioned previously we're primarily a vegan and vegetarian band, individually, but we never really spoken out as a group about it until the song in recent times. I guess we wrote it in a way that, we didn't want to alienate too many people we're obviously not trying to say everybody must go vegan if they listen to I killed The Prom Queen. Just wanted to write a song I feel about those subjects. You know there's songs about relationships more specifically when we're away on tour, or when we actually do get to go home what it feels like to be with a person you love. So I guess it's a pretty emotional record, and we pick the album title beloved because it says in one simple word a way to sum up most of the albums content. We essentially wrote the album about things that we love, what we're passionate about. Marta Pacek Embraces New Sound On Upcoming Album After spending two years touring North America and her home country, Australian alt-folk songstress Marta Pacek returned to the studio to discover a new sound for her upcoming record Voodoo Dolls and False Alarms. Out in Canada on April 29th Marta says: "I was open to a lot of different ideas this time out". With a new direction, she was ready to stretch and grow in the studio. The 10 song collection includes the first single Nothing Going On - with a surprising hip hop feel that takes the listener on a journey back to 50's rock 'n' roll. Marta released a new video for the song today. Currently on tour in Australia, Marta will return to Canada in May for a stop at CMW followed by a Canadian/US tour, and will officially celebrate the new album in Toronto on June 5th at the Cadillac Lounge. Her new songs caught the interest of producer Brad Albetta (Martha Wainwright, Angus & Julia Stone, Glen Hansard) who also brought his bass playing and beats to the project. The potential heard on Marta's 2012 album Rebel Baby has been harnessed, and the new songs are a testament to her growing songwriting ability. The record starts off with the pulsating and haunting feel of The Hunted, while Favourite Thing veers into alt-country before pulling at your heartstrings with the sombre Sometimes You Lose. Marta nods to Fleetwood Mac in All I Need and teamed up with noted songwriter Todd Clark (Pilot Speed, Philip Phillips, Goo Goo Dolls) for the song One Day. Marta's songwriting has been strongly influenced from early days writing with Mark Seymore (front man of iconic Australian group Hunters & Collectors). With Voodoo Dolls and False Alarms, she has harnessed an abundance of experiences into an album of personal confessions and a soundscape perfect for taking that long and reflective drive. Her career has already been sprinkled with wonderful accolades including Best International Artist at the Barrie New Music Festival in 2009, Best Alt Country Song International at the Canberra Country Music Festival in 2011 and opening for David Cassidy in Phoenix. Marta's cover of Patty Griffin's song Nobody's Crying was featured on the ABC/Global series Rookie Blue, she has written for the TV series Radio Man and has also licensed her music for film. When she isn't busy on the road with Troubadoria (her live-in touring van) she splits her time between Australia and Canada. Jump in the van and get ready to discover Marta Pacek's new sound with Voodoo Dolls and False Alarms. www.martapacek.com and www.facebook.com/musicbymarta Free Download at www.soundcloud.com/rnarta-pacek-single/nothing-going-on

New Jolie Holland Album Wine Dark Sea Anti- Records is proud to announce that Jolie Holland will release her bold new album Wine Dark Sea this May 20th. In anticipation of the release, Holland is premiering a video for the joyous slice of deconstructed r&b, "Waiting For The Sun." You can watch here: www.youtube.corniantirecords Jolie Holland has always embodied everything weird and wonderful in the history of American music, but Wine Dark Sea takes it to a new level. Raw and unrestrained, bristling with kinetic energy, Wine Dark Sea is unlike anything she's ever recorded, but is also the purest and most assured evocation of Holland's vision to date. A joyfully unrestrained masterwork, the record delivers: louder, noisier, raw and visceral. It is an inventive and fiery reimagining of delta blues, free jazz, classic rEkb and country, infused throughout with a no wave abandon. The album features symphonic swaths of noisy electric guitars and percolating polyrhythms supporting some of the most powerful vocal performances of Holland's career. This combined with some of her most direct and memorable songs make Wine Dark Sea her most joyful and fully realized work to date. Wine Dark Sea was self-produced by Holland who mined New York's fertile downtown jazz and experimental scene for an ensemble of talented musicians including Doug Wieselman, Indigo Street and others. The sense of fun they had recording the album is tangible. You can Pre-order and find out more information at www. joliehollandmusic.com

Sonic Pairing Creates Young Magic's Sophomore Album Brooklyn-based group, Young Magic, is set to release their otherworldly sophomore album, Breathing Statues, on May 6th via Hi-Scores Recording Library. Reigning in the melodic chaos of their previous works, the dystopian beats on Young Magic's second release were conceived in a new series of experiments. Fans can listen to the album track "Fall In" and watch the Cerebral video trailer at www.youtube.comitsYoungMagic

'• &, 0 Pi

Young Magic is the sonic pairing between Australian producer Isaac Emmanuel and Indonesian vocalist Melati Malay. The duo pieced together their sophomore album over the past year while on tour - recording in Morocco, France, Czech Republic, Australia, Iceland and their home studio in New York. As a result, Breathing Statues unfolds in labyrinthine fashion, its surreal lyrics and ghostly harmonies emphasizing the record's otherworldly intimacy, growing darker as the album progresses from the agile Fall In to the lurching chants of Mythnomer. In the spirit of the album's spontaneity, the band invited a harpist to improvise over their songs, layering celestial fragments with the record's cavernous beats. The album operates in these extremes, with the airiness of Malay's vocals set in sharp contrast with the claustrophobic doom of Emmanuel's warped percussion. With Breathing Statues, Young Magic's series of audio experimentations coalesce into a new, holographic landscape, showing a band progressing with ambition towards a sound uniquely their own. The Mouth of Ghosts Return With 'You MI Go Again From Me' EP

THE

MOUTH OF GHOSTS YOH WILL GO AGAIN MI Ur •

Counting Tom Robinson as just one of their many fans, The Mouth of Ghosts return in 2014 with gorgeously genre-defying EP, 'You Will Go Again From Me', set for release on March 16, 2014. Attention fans of Portishead and Massive Attack - get your ears ready if this band is not already on your radar. Founding band members Simon Langford (guitar) and Marco Italia (bass) met Alla Seydalieva in 2011, matching her powerful yet dainty vocals with ragged guitar and dark grooves. Drummer Phil Page joined the trio later that year and in 2012, Valerie Deniz (vocals, synth) completed the line-up making the band a five.

Emotionally-driven trip-hop is the London-based quintet's weapon of choice and 'You Will Go Again From Me' sees the band take it a step further, weaving soulful and trippy textures that flatter Alla's spectral high-ranging vocals. `You Will Go From Me' presents a real and rare variety of compositions not often found in the plethora of unsigned recordings these days, its ordering carefully curated as an exquisite detail. First track 'Wrong' opens with whispers before hotfooting it into a distinctly trippy groove. This brash, confident vibe is a stark contrast to second track 'Winter's Song' where we see Alla (vocals) unveiled, naked, vulnerable. 'Right On Time' is a return to a sassier, sexy side of the band, before final piece 'You Will Go' closes the work with a sullen and dark finale. The Mouth Of Ghosts ooze an air of sensuality, their atmospheric work translating into awesome yet chilling alt-rock live shows that permit Alla's unparalleled vocals to reign supreme. The EP continues to deliver the band's perfect dichotomy between a despondent gothic vibe and pretty, delicate guitar (albeit maintaining that typical deep morosity we expect from The Mouth of Ghosts). The result of these aural acrobatics pushes the band into an entirely different league of musicians. Hip Hop Duo Young Planet Release New Album and Free Download Young Planet is a Brooklyn based hip-hop duo comprised of rapper Cidida and producer Eibol. Their sound is a balance between Cidida's lyrical prowess and Eibol's cinematic arrangements over hard-hitting drums in which he combines everything from technological manipulation to live instrumentation.

FasTaLITOIllaTIC

The album itself is a magnifying glass held over the contemporary world that observes the universal obsession with technology, privacy and consumerism at the same time daring to ask the question "What will the future hold"? Yet, what about the past? The foundation of Young Planet was conceived in the summer of 2006 while the two were interning at the legendary Chung King Studios. The pair squatted in an unused loft on the studiolils 11th floor. Nearly every night after sessions they would write, record, and mix songs, which would begin the process that would later drive Young Planet. Eibol quickly became an in-house engineer working with artists such as Jay Electronica, Wyclef Jean, Tony Touch and Ryan Leslie until the studios closing in 2010. Cidida, quickly gaining notoriety on BEThs Freestyle Friday, went undefeated for seven weeks, to also appearing on both Terry Urban and Mick Boogies "The Great American Mix tape" as well as Talib Kwelifls "The Blacksmith Community Mix tape". After honing their individual talents the two later reconnected to release their debut album "Ludwig, Can You Hear Me?" and form Young Planet. ,. Built on inspirations ranging from Bob Dylan, Company Flow and George Orwell's 1984 New Fast Automatic" manages to create the perfect score for that nagging feeling that we've pushed things a little too far, offering up songs like "Thought Police", "Aww Man" and "Night Life" to explain just how. Immediately the subversive nature of the album becomes apparent through socially aware lyrics and heavy production. In every track the feelings are raw and impossible to ignore. "New Fast Automatic" is available as a free download at: www.spinyoungplanet.com

Full Album From Danish Instrumental Maniacs "Fossils" Denmark's off-the-chain drums/bass duo, Fossils, is ready to provide their meaty sophomore LP, Flesh Hammer, which has just been released. Fossils' succinctly pulverizing Flesh Hammer is packed with ten precise, noisy, no-bullsh*t pieces of instrumental noise rock in twenty minutes, produced by Danish sound-enigma Q (Beta Satan, Entombed). The past several weeks saw Fossils careening on a rambunctious pre-release propaganda campaign which included virtually giving the entire album as in-studio videos one-by-one, as well as the release of a video filmed in an abandoned factory in Philadelphia after midnight where the band and album names were laser-etched onto a slab of beef jerky.

The Oath to Release Self-Titled Debut April 15th

4

To master the dark and wring compelling creativity from its densest shadows requires vision, belief and, perhaps most importantly, a dash of synchronicity. These are all qualities that ooze from every pore of the debut album by The Oath. A band forged around the fizzing, feral chemistry between Swedish guitarist Linnea Olsson and German vocalist Johanna Sadonis, The Oath represent the wild magic that erupts when two blazing souls collide and fate is sent veering off course by sheer strength of the human will. This is heavy metal at its most mercurial and intuitive.

Having found each other and discovered that their obsessions, desires and musical urges were utterly compatible and swiftly and irrevocably interwoven, Linnea and Johanna set about devising an artistic masterplan. The results of that plan are now primed to emerge, fully-formed and thrumming with primal energy and pristine passion, in the shape of The Oath: a nine-song clarion call that simultaneously recalls the hallowed greats of heavy rock, punk and metal - from Sabbath, Trouble and Angel Witch through to the Stooges and Poison Idea, and further to Mercyful Fate and Danzig - while revelling in new ways to express the spirit of those revered archetypes. Recorded in ten days at Studio Cobra in Stockholm with producer Konie Ehrencrona at the controls and the raging rhythm section of Simon Bouteloup (bass, Kadavarlex-Aqua Nebula Oscillator) and Andrew Prestidge (Angel Witch/Winters) underpinning Linnea and Johanna's otherworldly hymns to the black, The Oath is a triumph for soul and sonic ceremony, with conviction and integrity bursting from every artfully-crafted riff and ethereal melodic motif. Veering from the strident grooves and shimmering menace of opener All Must Die to the breakneck, Luciferian clatter of Black Rainbow and on to the spine-tingling grandeur and grime of epic closer Psalm 7, The Oath is anything but just another addition to the modern pseudo-occult rock canon. Instead, it is an extraordinary glimpse into its creators' overpowering charisma and chemistry and a thrillingly, hyper-nourishing dose of authentic, 21st century heavy metal sorcery. With input from In Solitude's Henke Palm - who contributes some "improvised Voivod-style solos", according to Linnea - and logo designed courtesy of Watain's Erik Danielson, this is an album that exudes ageless style and irresistible substance; a potent antidote to the flimsy fripperies of the modern age. And now, this new ritual begins. The Oath has been sworn, the dice have been thrown. All that remains is the propagation of the divine but unholy art that these sisters-in-sound have wrenched from the depths of their harmonised psyches. The future belongs to those who believe... Rockers Lydia Can't Breathe New Album & Cartoon Maniple( Rock music and metal music seem to have been masked, manipulated, and drawn with every characterization possible. With genres of stagnate duplications and pools of curiously aggressive music addicts, looming fans looking for an outlet have come to find Florida quartet Lydia Can't Breathe. The element of variety and level of experimentation in Lydia Can't Breathe's music has made them difficult to classify, but all of their achievements have gained them a strong following amongst a diverse group of fans. Formed in 2005, Lydia Can't Breathe consists of Kyle Bolduc (lead vocals, guitar), Dan Wilson (guitar), Josh Runfeldt (drums) and Shawn Goree (bass). The band originally achieved independent success with the release of their early production and full-length studio album, At The Bottom Of The Podum Stole, released via Spinnit Records. Fast forward to 2014, and we find Lydia Can't Breathe in the midst of another successful album cycle, this time for their second studio album Time. Released in October 2013 via Spinnit Records, this current musical offering again boasts the band's experimental blend of rock, metal and reggae influences underneath a mixture of clean and growling vocals. "Time is our second full length album, and it basically is about how time represents everything around us and how we can't escape it. It is what we consider our best material to date," states lead vocalist and guitarist Kyle Bolduc. "I'd say we have definitely matured as musicians throughout the making of this album in particular. The overall feel of the album is a cross of multiple genres rolled into one epic story of anger, individual freedom, and the meaning of life. I feel content wise there is truly something to offer for everyone, from mellow, to heavy, angry, to happy." The title track and first single from the new record, "lime', was released alongside an impressive five minute music video, featuring a cartoon rendering of over 6,500 hand-drawn pencil and pen illustrations. Watch the music video here: www.youtube.com/lydiacantbreathe. The artwork in the video was illustrated by French artist Cyril Sine!. Learn more about Cyril's work here: www.iepetitgroing.com A second single from the album, 'Enemies Of The Night', was released shortly after 'Time' and also features a music video, this time in live-action. {You can also view the video on their Youtube Channel.) The video was directed by Daniel Wilson of 30 Entertainment and was shot in central Florida. Learn more about Daniel and 30 Entertainment here: www.30ent.com Lydia Can't Breathe attributes much of their success to their relentless touring schedule. The band has toured with artists such as Otep, Mushroomhead, New Years Day, Stolen Babies, Sou!fly, Bleeding Through, Born of Osiris, Oceano, Prong, and many more. Most recently, Lydia Can't Breathe toured the U.S. in late 2013 with Mushroomhead and Otep while promoting Time. The band is planning a tour for this spring, so stay tuned for tour dates coming soon. Weaves Announce Debut Self-Titles EP Via Buzz Records On April 1st, Weaves will release their highly anticipated, self-titled debut EP, via Buzz Records. The 6 track EP is an affront to the polite and humble sounds that are representative of the status quo in Canadian music. Lead single Buttercup begins with a maze of mandolins plucking their way into your brain with Jasmyn Burke's warped but soulful warble sounding like it's being played back by a gramophone. The song grows in dementia from there as they kick up the playful bombast in a way that only Weaves can. Fans can have a listen through soundclould at www.soundcloud.comibuzzrecords/01-weaves-buttercup Along with album track Closer, Buttercup was produced by David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene) whose style and, enthusiasm for idiosyncrasy matched Weaves' own. With Newfeld's help, the group was able to expose the bits of life and spontaneity in their music that they constantly strive for creatively. Burke's voice is the cohesive element over the EP, fluttering and tumbling with the band through each song. Weaves sound as if they're about to come apart at any second, yet they expertly keep it together with a bit of gusto and some giant hooks. Weaves is a guerrilla project, intentionally forcing each member to create outside of the tiresome redundancy of a four-piece band. Reluctant to hide behind a wall of reverb or instantly affiliate with a scene, they are focused on mirroring pop sensibilities while evoking a visual and vulgarized experience. Odonis Odonisf "Hardlltiled SofMiled" April 15th, 2014 will see the release of Toronto Odonis Odonis' sophomore album Hard Boiled Soft Boiled (via Buzz Records), the follow-up to the band's critically praised debut, Hollandaze. The record splits Odonis Odonis' sound in two, embracing vinyl, and appealing to the strengths of the form by having two complementary, but distinct sides. The first is a strict machine of industrial proportions and clamour, influenced by early Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy and Wire. The second side is a warmer affair awash with dreamy, truly affecting melodies in the style of New Order, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins. Get ready for two infectious sides of the band, and have a listen to their version of Ring Of Fire, one soundcloud at www.soundcloudicomibuzzrecordsloo-ring-of-fire Hard Boiled Soft Boiled finds Odonis 째don's pushing their sound into new territory, because much like the hypnotic spiral that came to be associated with the band's debut record Hollandaze, Odonis Odonis do not follow a linear path. Recorded over a three week period in Vancouver, BC with Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Pretty Girls Make Graves), the record features a bevy of guest-performances including New Pornographers Kathryn Calder and Kurt Dahle. The album dramatically expands the sonic pallette of the band and demonstrates just how dynamic a songwriter Dean Tzenos can be. www.odonisodonis.com and wvvw.facebook.com/odonisodonis 42 VandalaMagazine.Com - March 2014

Miss May I - New Album and Rise of the Lion Website Miss May I's blistering new offering, Rise Of The Lion, is set to hit stores in North America on April 29, 2014 via Rise Records (April 28 in the UK, April 25 in Australia). This is Miss May I's fourth album and the first to be produced by the legendary Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones, White Zombie, Bring Me The Horizon). The countless fan letters the band has received over the years are the inspiration for the tracks on Rise Of The Lion, and each track is written from the perspective of those fans or responses to them. The band slams out of the gate with a double dose of metal, offering up their brand new single 'Gone' along with its accompanying music video via the official Rise Of The Lion launch site, www.MMIRiseOfTheLion.com. Take a listen now and while visiting the site, check out the band's three studio updates, as well as tour date information. Beginning today at the site, you can pre-order the album in digital, physical CD, and vinyl versions, as well as special pre-order packages including exclusive Rise Of The Lion shirts, necklaces, posters, and more! "We wanted to release a video that showed the true bare bones of our band," states frontman Levi Benton. "We really found ourselves on this new record and we felt we needed a video that had no bells and whistles and was just five guys jamming and thrashing. It also shows the creation of the album artwork, which is a real statement about Miss May I. The lion logo that is being tattooed represents our band as a whole." Levi adds, "'Gone' is about heartbreak and feeling like you are lost within that heartbreak. We know everyone has felt this, so as this record being letters back to our fans we wanted to address this. One too many times I have read a letter about someone feeling so broken they felt they felt like they couldn't make it and that our music helped them find a way. This song is for them!" The worldwide release of Rise Of The Lion will be supported by a brief headline tour of the United States this April and May, with support from For The Fallen Dreams. Miss May I's "Up Close and Personal" Tour will stop in eight cities, including a closer in their home state of Ohio at Rock On The Range. Cradle of Filth To Release Total F*cking Darkness Demo Oni Viinyl After more than two decades, Total F*cking Darkness, the infamous third demo from notorious UK extreme metal magicians, Cradle of Filth, will be unleashed on gatefold double LP and digipak CD via Mordgrimm this Spring.

• fut„rre

The undertaking was helmed by vocalist Dani Filth, former guitarist Paul Ryan (currently of The King Is Blind) and Cacophonous Records founder Frater Nihil, who first signed Cradle of Filth, in an effort to bring fans old and new a remastered version of the demo along with material that had been sitting in the vaults for twenty years.

Given new life at Turan Studio in Oxford with the aid of engineer Tim Turan (who has worked on everything from Emperor to Thin Lizzy), Total F*cking Darkness commences with "Spattered In Faeces," the only surviving track from the now mythical Goetia sessions, followed on Side A and the rest of Side B with the recordings from the Total F*cking Darkness demo. Side C offers up another previously unreleased hymn with "Devil Mayfair (Advocatus Diaboli)," recorded in a rehearsal studio on Samhain 1992, followed by three more tracks from the same session, a further hint of the material that would have featured on the aborted Goetia album. Two short instrumental movements from former Cradle of Filth keyboardist Ben Ryan are also included. Housed in a heavy gatefold sleeve with paintings featuring the perverse visions of Radio 1 Presenter and occult artist, Daniel Carter, the legendary recording will be released in an initial mail-order edition of 666 copies, unleashed in an unholy trinity of three two-color, 180-gram vinyl variants limited to 222 copies each; orange/black, blue/grey and grey/black. Each copy includes a limited edition booklet with a foreword by Dani Filth and formerly unseen photos from the band archives. A retail version in blue vinyl with insert, and a digipak CD, will be available from Amazon and other outlets on May 5, 2014, with the limited edition version slated for release two weeks earlier. Cradle of Filth Total F*cking Darkness will drop on May 5, 2014 via Mordgrimm. Preorders are currently available at www.mordgrimm.bigcartel.com and more information at www.cradleoffilth.com

Uniting the Expertise of Adrenaline PR CEO Maria Ferrero, MegaForce Records and Crazed Management Founders Jon and Marsha Zazula, and TESTAMENT Vocalist Chuck Billy

Breaking Bands LLC may be a new name on the management block, but is made up of renowned industry veterans— making the experience anything but new. Founded by the powerhouse team of Adrenaline PR CEO Maria Ferrero, former MegaForce Records and Crazed Management owners Jon and Marsha Zazula, and Testament vocalist and co-manager Chuck Billy— these individuals have joined forces to merge their experience and bring some new, unknown bands to the forefront, as well as develop and guide the continuing careers of some of today's most well-established artists. Combined, Chuck, Maria, Jon, and Marsha bring decades of experience to the table, from their individual beginnings at the very introduction of the heavy metal genre in the 1980's. Breaking Bands LLC is currently representing legendary Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus, as well as Texas heavy metal newcomers Shattered Sun and California alt pop artist Forrest Day. Breaking Bands LL C is presently accepting new submissions for prospective management clients. To truly understand the prowess of Breaking Bad LLC, one needs to know the eminent status of the parties involved. Chuck Billy is best known as the accomplished lead singer of legendary Billboard-charting thrash metal band Testament, one of the five original thrash metal bands to exist in the world. Testament has sold millions of albums worldwide, and boast a total of eleven studio albums, four live albums, five compilation albums, and six singles altogether. Their most recent album, Dark Roots of Earth, reached number 12 on the Billboard Top 200 charts. In 2010, Chuck Billy was recognized in the 48 VandalaMagazine.Com - march 2014

usi kews. Music Imc smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian exhibit "Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture", which was on display through January 2, 2011. "After being friends and doing business for almost 30 years, we all decided that it was time to create a team that has lived and breathed the music business with all its ups and downs, adds Chuck Billy. "I feel that with all the knowledge that we've gained, it would be nice to work with bands and help improve and guide them in the right direction to a long and successful career. I feel this is a natural progression in my life along with focusing on my band Testament for 28+ years." Maria Ferrero began at MegaForce Records and Crazed Management in 1982 as the label's first publicist and A&R representative, eventually working at labels TVT, E-magine Entertainment, and Metropolis Records, before founding her own successful boutique PR, branding, and marketing firm, Adrenaline PR. Maria Ferrero and her publicity team have represented an array of projects such as the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Motorhead, Anthrax, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Testament, Dethklok, Hank3, KMFDM, Tech N9ne, Machine Head, ETID, Miss May I, Louder Than Hell (book), Repo The Genetic Opera (film) and many more. "Making a difference on the projects we are working is what it's all about for me, personally. I would not want to take on this business venture with anyone else. I trust my partners. We're proven," states Maria Ferrero. Jon and Marsha Zazula founded MegaForce Records in 1982, first signing Metallica, and then going on to sign Anthrax, Testament, Overkill and more of the era's biggest and best bands. They also founded Crazed Management in 1982 and managed Anthrax for the first 11 years of their career, Metallica for two years, Ministry, and TAD, among others. "Between all of us, there is over 100 years of experience and 30 years of mutual trust and respect," states Jon Zazula. "It is a great feeling for Marsha and I to work alongside with Chuck and Maria. It feels like the dream team." Stay tuned for more great things coming from Breaking Bands LLC soon! To learn more about Breaking Bands LLC, visit www.breakingbandsllc.com.

Battlecross On Tour With Protest The Hero/ The Safety Fire, and More Aborted have announced headline dates prior to the bands North American tour with Canada's Kataklysm. The band will play a select number of headline North East dates alongside Pyrexia and other supports. Sven had to say the following: "East coast beware, since several of you have demanded east coast shows, we give you some! Also, the reason we are doing this has nothing to do with the fact that we absolutely want to get fat on philly cheese steaks or New York pizza. Also, we are thrilled to have New Yorks legendary Pyrexia coming along with us to give you many sh*t tsunamis through the power of brutal death metal. in all seriousness, we are very excited to play this week of exclusive headline dates. Comments the band: "We just had an amazing run with Kil!switch Engage and Trivium in Europe and we're stoked to be with them yet again in the US! We're going to have a blast with our fans and hopefully make some new ones!" Battlecross will be touring in support of latest album, War Of Will, which debuted at #134 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #118 on the Top Current Albums chart, #2 on the Heatseeker chart, #15 on the Current Hard Music chart, #16 on the Hard Music Overall chart, and #32 on the Independent Albums chart. Additionally, the album debuted in Canada's Soundscan charts coming in at #178 Top 200 Current and #25 Hard Music Charts while also landing on the iTunes charts for release date at #103 Top 200, #10 on Rock, and #2 on Metal! This marks the band's first ever Billboard chart debut. War Of Will also peaked at #3 on the US iTunes metal chart on the day of release.
