PARK INFORMATION

fees, refunds & receipts The Park Board has adopted a policy of the resident discount user fees at most facilities and for most programs. This policy apportions an equalized higher fee to our non-resident participants. The higher fee contributes to the overall operations financing of the Park Department on an equitable basis with Valparaiso City residents who contribute by paying property taxes. Standard fees are offered to those residing within or owning property within Valparaiso City limits. FEE ASSISTANCE Fee Assistance is available to reduce the basic fee for most Park Youth Programs. Fee assistance is based on family income and the number of members in the family. To apply, simply inquire when registering for a youth activity. A parent will be required to complete an application for assistance.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Christa Emerson

If you’ve ever hiked on a particularly steep and long, rocky trail, renovated or built a home, or worked on a daunting project of any sort, you know the feeling when you can see the finish line, summit, or final submission in the near distance. There’s that moment when you’re on the verge of seeing all your effort, planning, preparation, blood, sweat, and tears coming to an exhilarating, exciting conclusion. That is my sentiment about our Valpo Parks right now. Reaching the summit after planning and preparation won’t mean an ending but will begin many more climbs with many more exciting finishes over the next ten years. Since 2020, during extreme challenges, and with substantial community input, Valpo Parks has been working on a five-year master plan with significant improvements for our existing neighborhood and destination parks and plans for additional major projects including: An all-new Skatepark, Active Adult Lifestyle Center, and a Sports Complex. Never, in my 20 years on the Board, have we worked toward so many projects of this magnitude at one time. These projects will require more community input, fundraising, and the continued effort and support of our City Administration, Park Staff, Matt Murphy, Mayor Foundation Board, and Park Board. We can always use your help and input so Mike Jessen, City Administrator please volunteer. Holly Taylor, Clerk Treasurer

We, as people and a community, are still facing challenging times, yet the Park staff continue to excel and create new and unique opportunities for recreation, youth and adult sports, classes, day trips, special events, and enjoyment for all ages. Our team has grown to include more special events staff who have worked hand in hand this past summer with Valparaiso Events to bring you Concerts in the Park, Summer Movies, and the Valparaiso Market. This partnership will continue to grow and strengthen along with new and exciting community special events. We couldn’t manage without our volunteers and sponsors. Thank you for all you do to help us operate everything from horticulture to youth athletic leagues to the ValPAWraiso Dog Park to Creekside Trails, to our preschool programs and a lot more. Volunteers and sponsors should be very proud of our Challenger Baseball League which just finished successfully with lots of smiles and satisfaction. Congratulations to our Park Foundation “Friends and Legends” Erin and Rick Urschel, Jon Schmaltz, and Sandra DeTraz, who were recently recognized for their extraordinary support of Valpo Parks. We know you will find something to spark your interest in this guide for yourself, your child, your parent or friend. Try something new that you’ve never done before! Enjoy life in Valparaiso!
