Since the age of 13, Valeria Pacchiani undertakes drama classes at the Conservatory of Geneva. Along her drama cursus, she obtains in 2008 a Master Degree in International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. Though her passion for theater becomes stronger, when she finishes her postgraduate studies, she then undertakes a two years cursus at the Preprofessional Drama Conservatory of Geneva with professionals as Anne-Marie Delbart, Julien Georges, Juan Crespillo, Jacques Maître. At the same time, she starts creating sets and making costumes for students at the Conservatory. As of today, Valeria Pacchiani designed and created six sets and costumes for different directors. In 2010 she collaborated with Alain Carré in «Kilombo» by Sandra Korol, with Julien Michel in «Quand la vie bégaie » by Valérie Poirier, a swiss author. In 2011, she worked with Lionel Brady and imagined the stage of «Haute-Autriche» by F.X. Kroetz. Since 2012, she is collaborating with the actress and director, Lucia Placidi, founder of the «ligne 46» Company. They worked together on two child plays « La Terre qui ne voulait plus tourner » by Françoise de Chaxel and « L’Ebloui» by Joël Jouanneau. They are now working on a play for adult, « Barbe-Bleue» by Déa Loher.

SUMMARY ÂŤHaute AutricheÂť is a three acts play. Between harshness and tenderness, between aggressiveness and subtlety, you follow the everyday life of Heinz and Anni that will be turned upside down by an event that is as surprising as it is unexpected.

ANECDOTE This scenography was made with CHF 100.-! Which proves that you can do many things with little means!!

SUMMARY In ancient Greece, while the cities of the country are torned by endless wars, women, guided by Lisette, decided to end this unbearable life. Men are never there, their sons are away to make war. Against so much injustice, the women cannot freely express themselves. The moment for a revolt has come and the women decide to install a sex strike until their husbands end these struggles.

ANECDOTE Carrying out a set without knowing where it will be played was a challenge; wether small or big, with trees or grass, this stage was build up for a street arts festival in Auvergne (France); I learned from this experience, that a stage designer needs to be flexible.

SUMMARY ÂŤIn an abandoned tavern, two former stars of music hall, Magie and Humphrey, endlessly relive their moments of past glory... Between repetitions and reminiscences, they descend in their history to try to regain the memory of happiness. Anxious in front of their fear of loosing their memories because time is against them, they share with us their violent melancholy of the soul. When life stutters, when life stands still, when everything freezes or repeats, do we have to live in the memory or expire in a present? A question that will remain present in their heart, despite the glitter powder they still hope to have humming songs of love and sparkling friendship . It is in a counterfeit cabaret that the most humane and the most primitive show will occur, a show of the inability to live and die.

ANECDOTE This idea of integrating this project came to mind while I was with five friends in Bordeaux, passing an acting examination. One night a friend of mine shared his project . And I respond to him laughing: ÂŤI could do you set and costume designÂť. Back to Geneva, I started to work intensively on his project. For the stage design, I needed to recreate an atmosphere of an old cabaret. Flees markets were the best places to find old trunks, costumes. The result: the craving to start again....

SUMMARY

INSPIRATION by

«Trapped beneath earth and meant to eat the trash coming out from a huge tub, Gorda and Nena, carry us in their world. A world where their memories lie between dream and reality .»

ANECDOTE A cultural week-end in Paris with my twin sister - a fashion designer. We entered in Centre Pompidou where women artists were portrayed. At the beginning of this exhibition, I was astounded by the plastic work of Niki de St. Phalle, «la mariée» (I admire this artist a lot, particularly for her «Jardin de Tarots» in Toscana). This work was the trigger for my costumes designing process, specially for Nena’s wedding dress. «Kilombo’s» project started with a friend that was familiar with my creative universe. The central part of this scenography is the costume design. I had to create salvage characters: a dragonfly for Nena and a beast for Gorda. Their environment is made of trash that invades the scenic space. A feeling of fullness.
