PUBLISHERS’ LETTER Dear dedicated readers, Welcome to the newest Special Edition 2021 issue of The Valley Wedding Pages…we made it to 2021! What a year 2020 has been, filled with uncertainty and panic, yet overshadowed by hope and love. That is what has kept many of our couples and vendors in good spirits despite the road blocks COVID-19 put on wedding plans and life in general. While many businesses were hit hard by the impact of COVID-19, many persevered with the help of the community and the evolved day to day operations to continue serving their clients during a pandemic. With regulations and safety measures in place, we at The Valley Wedding Pages have been happy to help those vendors stay in business while helping couples safely move ahead with their nuptials.

Some of our couples would not let COVID-19 stop them from taking the next step of their journey together, especially our Front Cover couple Lisa Marie Brown and Jefferson Lindor, who married in a romantic celebration, all while safely following social distancing and pandemic protocols. Their story, along with our other featured couples, can be found within the pages of this Special Edition issue.

These weddings could not have happened without the help of some spectacular wedding vendors, and we are happy to finally announce the winners of the Best of 2020, wedding and event vendors voted number one by the community and their fans for their amazing products and services, as well as the heart they put into each event they create. Congratulations to all of our vendors who were nominated and to our winners! Flip through the pages to see each winner. 2020 certainly brought many changes to our community and to the world, and one of the biggest changes the New Year has brought personally here at the magazine is the departure of the esteemed and prestigious Leticia Guerra-Cantu, Publisher of The Valley Wedding Pages for 17 years, as well as a renowned Wedding and Event Designer, and Fashion Designer of her own line. This magazine could not be what it is without Leticia’s dedication, passion, and love, for all things love. While we are sad to see her leave us, we are proud to continue publishing this magazine she left in our loving hands, and we are truly looking forward to what she has in store for us. These changes have not stopped our perseverance for continuing to assist engaged couples with bringing their dream wedding to life, to shine a spotlight on vendors whose newly found businesses were built on love during the pandemic, and for giving you the stories of those in the Rio Grande Valley who can make a difference, big or small. We want to thank you, our readers, and our vendors for your continued support. Despite COVID-19’s impact, we are proud to say The Valley Wedding Pages has been the only local Rio Grande Valley bridal magazine that has not stopped publishing throughout the year. All of this could not have been done without you. Cheers to 2021, and as always, Happy Planning! Daisy Gonzalez & Staff

B

y human reasoning, our wedding on November 8, 2020 should not have occurred. When COVID-19 placed a hold on international travel, Jefferson was working overseas. For months we weighed the options and seriously considered postponing our nuptials. After many tears and much prayer, we decided to push forward in faith, confident that God would honor our originally chosen date. On top of travel restrictions, I was found to have two herniated discs that required neurosurgery a little over two months prior to the wedding. Recovery was tough. I needed help with all self-care, and relied on a walker for the first half of my recovery. Despite the uphill battle, my strength gradually returned, and Jefferson received permission from his job to travel to the United States for our wedding. I awakened the morning of November 8, 2020, and could hardly believe the day had finally arrived. The Brown Residence was a flurry of excitement, anxious anticipation, and chaos. The bridesmaids arrived for hair and makeup, decorators transformed the backyard into an exquisite reception space, and COVID-19 goody-bags were filled with hand sanitizer and face masks. It was a marathon from start to finish, but when I stepped into my wedding gown reality hit. My sweetheart and I were getting married today. My parents and I traveled to the church in a 1930 Plymouth, while the groom and his posse arrived in a Cadillac Escalade Limousine “Jet” Edition. The wedding party walked down the aisle to a string quartet version of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years”, and eventually my time arrived. I chose Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” as it was dramatic and regal. The doors opened, and the crowd stood as I took my first steps toward my handsome groom, mother and father on either side. I felt like a queen in my glittering tiara and dazzling gown. The church was beautifully decorated with burgundy, blush, and ivory floral arrangements, accented by lush winter greenery. A flower arch filled the majority of the stage, and an aisle runner embellished with our monogram lay beneath my feet. The ceremony was thoughtful and heartfelt. We recited personalized vows to one another, and I serenaded my husband with the song “I Choose You” by Ryan Darling. “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli played in the background as we lit the Unity Candle, a symbol of our commitment to one another, and the joining of two lives under God within the bond of marriage. Finally, we were pronounced as husband and wife.

November 8, 2020

We left the church with a petal sendoff, and were driven to the reception site, waving at well-wishers along the way. For the reception I removed the overlay portion of my wedding gown, revealing the sleek mermaid design beneath. Everything from the gorgeous décor, to the first dance, to the luxurious wedding cake was near perfection; even the shortened guest list enhanced the overall ambiance, lending it a more intimate feel. As the evening ended, our guests bid us farewell with dozens of sparklers. The wedding itself was a blur, but it was also a dream. We feel blessed to have experienced such a beautiful day spent with family and close friends. Although COVID-19 took much from us, it could not diminish our love. Thankyou to all those who helped make this happen; and most importantly, we give all glory to God. It was a moment in time we will never forget, when two became one. Now what God has joined together, let no man separate.

ne of the first graduates of the Wedding Planning Academy, Kelian Fowler of McAllen has truly found her lifelong passion. Kelian, a Texas A&M graduate, has been involved in event planning since high school, starting with organizing homecoming dances and eventually becoming the Social Chair of her sorority at Texas A&M where she utilized her leadership skills to create spectacular events. After graduating and moving back home to McAllen, Kelian found an amazing opportunity to work at the popular gift shop, Barn White, where she helped her first couple create their wedding registry. During her three years at Barn White, her experience and love for designing table settings grew, until doors of opportunity opened for her and she became part of The Valley Wedding Pages family as Assistant Writer and Social Media Manager.

KELIAN FOWLER

With her new Wedding Planning Academy Certification in hand, Kelian now runs her namesake business, Kelian Fowler Wedding Planning & Design in which she hopes to help couples create their dream wedding through trust and a keen eye for detail. When Kelian is not busy studying, designing or working, she can be found enjoying free time fishing, traveling, sipping on iced lattes, and spending time with her family and friends and six dogs. Kelian cannot wait to help you create your memorable event!

ight years ago in January 2013, with only $300 to work with, Hayley Fitzpatrick’s unabashed love for flowers opened her own floral shop which quickly blossomed into The Secret Garden Floral & Events, now a Rio Grande Valley household name in floral designs and spectacular creations that transform a blank space into a fantasy world. Throughout these eight years, Hayley has brought to life the visions and stories of couples in love while keeping every flower she utilizes in its most natural state, giving every arrangement and design its own personality and life force. Originally studying to be a nurse, Hayley could not pull away from the flowers that called to her, thus changing her direction to a business degree and eventually to becoming a successful floral designer. Brides flock to The Secret Garden Floral & Events for Hayley’s devotion to every detail, from the flowers brought in from across the country and around the world as far as Israel and Chile, and her adoration for a couple’s unique love story that makes each floral design one of-a-kind. The Secret Garden has left its green thumbprint at weddings and special events throughout the Rio Grande Valley, across Texas, and even from New Orleans to New York City! With the demand for stunning fresh flowers rising, Hayley announced her newly developed business Wildflowers Event Planning, making The Secret Garden Floral & Events a well-rounded wedding service. From that expansion Hayley’s dream grew even further, and today she now has her own adorable floral shop in central McAllen, where hands on experiences and day to day relationships are made. From gifts and in house bath products to premade arrangements and stem flowers for handmade bouquets, The Secret Garden Florals & Events can become part of your daily life, all with a special blossom that says “I love you.”

Leticia Guerra-Cantu FAREWELL

L

ongtime readers, friends and colleagues of The Valley Wedding Pages,

For over 30 years I have been blessed with many accomplishments in my career, from fashion retail buyer to self-made entrepreneur. I have proudly worn the title of fashion designer and owner of Poise N Ivy Custom Couture Studio, Event Planner and Designer of Leticia Guerra-Cantu Event Designer, educator for Lovegevity’s Wedding and Event Planner course through the former University of Texas Pan American, Owner and Publisher of The Valley Wedding Pages, LLC and now currently proprietor of the Enchanted Hacienda, Capilla del Rio.

THE PIXEL STUDIO

For the past 18 years I have seen this magazine grow beyond my expectations and I’m proud of where it stands now as a prominent publication in the Rio Grande Valley and the local wedding and special events industry, and I am proud to have been a part of that transformation. Now, after what seems like a lifetime of unforgettable memories and successes, I have decided to step down as Publisher and leave Valley Wedding Pages in the ever-capable and caring hands of Daisy Gonzalez, along with the staff and contributors. This was a decision that came after months of contemplation and reflection of my current personal ambitions and career goals, with no negative influence on the magazine’s productivity. As I came to my decision, I looked back on the many moments that truly highlighted the magazines impact on the Rio Grande Valley community; celebrating the 10th Year Anniversary with the prestigious Preston Bailey, the 15th Year Anniversary with honored guest David Tutera, and giving back to our community with various charities, and even granting a lucky couple their dream wedding every year with the “How I Got Engaged” contest. Having the amazing opportunity to hear the love stories of many brides and grooms, and working with the best wedding and event vendors throughout the Valley alongside my hard working staff, there are simply no words to express how fortunate I have been to be a part of these moments. I am truly pleased to leave Valley Wedding Pages with Daisy and her staff, as I am confident she will continue to work and support everything the magazine has come to be, and elevating it to a higher prominence than I can hope for. Everyone who works for or with this publication is stunningly talented and optimistic and no doubt will continue to be successful in spreading the love and encouragement it does with every story told on each page. As I look forward to what the future holds, I am pleased to have supportive and working relationships with colleagues and friends as I continue to pursue my event planning and design business along with my hacienda venue, Capilla Del Rio. Thank you all for the honor of being your Publisher, With best wishes, luck, and love,

How to Keep Your Wedding Safe

COVID-19 ADJUSTMENTS

P

lanning a wedding comes with many details to decide and finalize on – flowers, cake, music, and more. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic changing the dynamics of wedding celebrations, adjustments and new guidelines for hosting a wedding have been created to keep couples and their guests safe. Here are important details to keep in mind if you and your fiancé have decided to go forward with a small celebration, whether it’s a micro wedding or a minimony.

If you decide to select a new date for your wedding, consider having a backup date or two in place. With the current worldwide situations, it’s never a bad idea to be prepared. Deciding on who to have at your wedding, and who to cut, is often a very difficult subject to handle. Now with certain health guidelines and protocols to follow, you must be sure to keep in mind the number of guests you will be allowed to invite. Discuss with your fiancé and the venue, if you are getting married at a church or a separate location, this number and the people you want to be in attendance. Some places will allow up to 50 people, while others will only have a minimum of 10, including the newlyweds. Even with a smaller guest list, everyone’s health should still be a priority. Remember to remind your guests about wearing masks at the wedding. It would be a good idea to consider having masks on hand in case anyone forgets theirs, or even custom masks with your wedding date or monogram to give as favors. This can even be done with small bottles of hand sanitizer! Along with small bottles, the

church or venue could offer a hand sanitizer station at the entrance for extra protection. Social distancing is a new practice for public outings and locations. To make sure your guests are keeping a safe distance, use your wedding flowers and decorations to your advantage at the ceremony. They can serve as markers to where guests can sit or stand at the ceremony. If you’re having a seated dinner, reduce the number of chairs at tables, such as 6 instead of 8 per table. For dancing, a slightly larger dance floor will give guests more space to enjoy the music while maintaining a safe distance. For reception meals, make sure you discuss with your caterer beforehand what protocols and safety codes are being set in place. Masks for staff, pre-sliced wedding cake, and one-time use utensils, and more. To have assure a give you and the

new rules and plans smooth wedding day, and your guests peace freedom to enjoy your

set will and will of mind nuptials.

We hope that these pieces of advice help you through the wedding planning process. You, like many other couples, are sharing the same uncertainty and struggles. Remember that you are not alone and that the Valley Wedding Pages is here for you every step of the way.

A Love for Design and Art CREATIVE RENTAL SOLUTIONS

I

t took the momentous occasion of her daughter’s wedding for Cheryl Janssen to discover her place in the wedding industry as a designer specializing in rental furniture and décor. Her eye for all things unique, eclectic and stunning brings a one-of-a-kind service to the Harlingen community. The current owner of Craig’s Furniture in Harlingen, Texas which her parents first opened 57 years ago, Cheryl holds a keen eye for detail and design, using her talent to bring one’s vision to life. After many years in the business, Cheryl knew she wanted to expand her talents to other fields outside of the store’s showroom. As fate would have it, her daughter Lauren was to be married, and in Fall 2019, the planning of the blessed day sparked an idea for Cheryl. Already owning numerous lovely furniture and décor pieces, as well as antique glassware and dishware, she knew she could offer the Rio Grande Valley a new experience in terms of designing your wedding décor. When Lauren told her mother she wanted a rustic wedding without the burlap and mason jars, Cheryl was only too happy to give her daughter exactly what she asked for. Months later, March 7th arrived for the wedding day, as well as Cheryl’s pseudo debut in the wedding industry. The Boerne, Texas wedding found beautiful and diverse details, from vintage books and brass candleholders to antlers and a navy and blush palette, Mrs. Janssen delivered for the perfectly rustic and charming ambience Lauren and her new husband, Jason, envisioned for their special day. Cheryl now proudly runs Creative Rental Solutions, a special event company based in Harlingen, which will give clients the creative space to design their wedding celebration with Cheryl, the fairy godmother of designs and décor they are looking for. As she listens to exactly what her client needs and wants, she is sure to bring together pieces that will turn their nuptials into a unique affair, different from other weddings that have come before. Cheryl also enjoys keeping up with the latest trends in both furniture and wedding décor throughout the nation and the world, hoping to give her clients the courage to bring something innovative to their concept. While Cheryl continues her debut as a wedding décor designer while offering her services throughout the Rio Grande Valley, she is getting Creative Rental Solutions’ showroom ready, for clients to find conveniently located inside the store that began it all, Craig’s Furniture.

Questions to Ask When Selecting Your Venue

WEDDING PLANNING

A

s you begin planning your Wedding, one of the most important decisions you will make is the venue! When visiting locations you are interested in, it is helpful to ask the right questions to ensure you have found the perfect spot for your celebration.

O What is the guest capacity? O What are the available hours? What is the policy and fee for extended hours? O What are the options and arrangements for payment? O What is the cancellation policy and fee? O Who is responsible for providing insurance if it is required by the facility? O Are catering services provided? O If private catering is allowed, do you have a list of preferred and approved caterers? O What facilities are available for use (such as kitchen facilities)? Is there an additional fee? O Are rentals such as tables, chairs, linens, chargers, dinnerware, silverware, glassware, etc., included? Is there an additional fee? O Is the facility staff responsible for cleanup? When must the facility space be cleaned? O What are the alcohol policies? Does the venue have a beer and wine license?

O What is the setup time for vendors and what are the policies? O Is there a dance floor available? What is the policy for any additional dance floor space? O What are the policies for entertainment (i.e. bands, DJs, etc)? O What electrical voltage can your facility handle for a large band or DJ? O Is parking available on site? Is there a fee? If not included, is valet parking allowed? O Are items such as confetti, bubbles, sparklers, etc. allowed to be used in/around the facility? Who is responsible for cleanup? O Will security services be provided? Is private security allowed? Is there a fee? O If you select a hotel as your venue, is there a discount for reserving a block of rooms for out-of-towns guests? O Are there any other restrictions?

ur wedding day was an absolute dream, but the journey getting there was a road full of obstacles that challenged us like no other. Like many couples this year, the pandemic threw us a major curveball and we had to cancel our original plans for a California wedding due to the nationwide shutdown. Deposits were lost, flights were cancelled, and we almost threw in the towel; but Frankie and I remained positive and adapted to the situation. We kept our original July 5th wedding date, and planned a backyard celebration with immediate family. We invited the rest of our guests to watch virtually with a “watch party kit” filled with popcorn, koozies and other goodies to enjoy the day with us in spirit. Hosting our backyard wedding was a full circle moment for us, as Frankie’s parents are home builders in the RGV and our families met over a decade ago while building a home. Frankie and I met for the first time at a model house and his parents just built our very first home. Ultimately, our casual and intimate nuptials was the best day we could have asked for.

espite the chaos and uncertainty surrounding this year, the day finally arrived when we would become Mr. & Mrs. Gutierrez. After having to postpone our wedding twice due to the pandemic, we decided to have an intimate ceremony to consecrate our marriage. On the morning of our wedding, I spent time with my sister and mother as we got ready. I slipped into my gorgeous wedding gown to meet my future husband. Beto anxiously waited for me in the middle of a beautiful lush garden, where we had our first look. It was such raw and beautiful moment between us where we embraced each other before the beginning of the ceremony. My father walked me down the aisle as the string quartet played “Bridal March.” Beto was standing at the altar waiting for me, his eyes gleaming as we said, “I do”. Although our wedding was different than we originally planned, we are so grateful to have each other. We look forward to our reception next year where we will celebrate with all our loved ones.

he property known as Casa Los Ebanos began as the Russell family home in 1937 and was occupied by the present owner’s mother until 2000. In January of 2002, Martha and Taylor Blanton opened the grounds to the public as a private nature preserve and bird-watching venue. In May of that same year (and many bird-watchers later), a young woman dropped in and asked, “Could I have my wedding here?” In the 18 years since that important question, Casa Los Ebanos has proudly hosted hundreds of beautiful weddings.

MANAGEMENT TEAM

Martha and Taylor are still actively involved in the daily operation of Casa Los Ebanos and believe that much of its success is due to the initiative and hard work of Macaria Bujanos, who has been with them since the beginning. In the fall of 2015, another cheerful face came on board, Irene Atkinson Abrego. She too has proved to be incredibly organized and enthusiastic when working with potential brides and grooms as well as existing clients. Please visit the Casa Los Ebanos website, and schedule your appointment to view this gorgeous property and meet its exceptional management team.

y beautiful wife,

We finally got married! On the twelfth of December 2020, we exchanged our wedding vows at Capilla del Rio in front of our closest friends and family in the most beautiful wedding imaginable. We even got to exchange letters that we wrote to each other on our original wedding date, after we had to postpone. Nevertheless, everything was perfect. I love you not because you are my wife, but also because you are my best friend. You have and will always be the love of my life. You are the first one who I remember when I am happy or sad. I am proud to have you as my life partner, someone who I can trust the world in. Thank you for being there in my life and for giving me all the happiness in the world. I love you, my wife, forever and ever. Forever yours, Patrick

hile September 5th, 2020 seemed to fly by in the moment, we will never forget the amazing experience that was our wedding day. From almost forgetting the vows at the hotel room, to extreme rain, and even a tornado warning, what could have ruined our day only made it that much more memorable! While we had make major changes to our wedding due to COVID-19, the evening was filled with happiness, love, and laughter, and we would not have wanted it any other way. After a beautiful ceremony, we were off to Quinta Mazatlán for our mini-reception. We walked in to see it and everything was perfect and picturesque. Through the evening, there was lots off pictures, drinks, mingling, and even a game, but what will stick out most in our minds were our vows to each other, the toasts by the best man and maid-of-honor, and our first dance to “Tenerife Sea” by Ed Sheeran—even though we are both terrible dancers. We are beyond blessed to have had our closest friends and family with us on that special day, and that everyone left happy and healthy.

A

year and a half ago, Luis and I had announced our wedding plans to be celebrated in the most conventional way. We planned on a traditional Catholic wedding with the Church padrinos, the bridal party, beautiful wedding music and the church filled with friends and family. All vendors were in place. On March 4, 2020, my parents, sister Sueli and I planned a nice weekend in San Antonio as I would be talking my bridal pictures in the beautiful Japanese Tea Gardens as arranged by the infamous, David Pezzat, photographer. Meanwhile all my belongings were being moved into my fiancé’s apartment. Exactly two weeks prior to my wedding date of March 28, 2020, I was informed that everything needed to be cancelled. With 318 guests confirmed, I began to inform them of the shut down due to the pandemic. Nothing would happen. I remember sitting with my parents at home on my proposed wedding date and wondering what next. We had to quickly reimagine my wedding reception. We called every vendor and moved the reception to November 28, 2020. I still had a wedding license that would expire in one month. Finally, on April 18, 2020, Reverend Ruben Delgado, pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen performed the religious ceremony allowing a total of 10 persons in attendance. This included, Luis’ parents, my parents, Bea and Armando Lopez (singers) John Arriola (cinematographer), Luis and I and Father Delgado who officiated the ceremony. Luis and I learned something very unique that day. No matter how many or how few persons there are in the pews, the blessings of the sacrament of matrimony is just as sacred. It is the persons we carry in our hearts, alive or departed that fill that moment and the love that brings two people together under the loving eyes of our heavenly Father. The uneasiness of what would happen on November 28, 2020 (new reception date) still lingered in our minds.

Chelsea Tovar & Luis Gonzalez Photography by DAVID PEZZAT PHOTOGRAPHERS Finally the date came. Luis and I still thought and were ready for another shutdown but it did not happen. Instead our reception happened! A new invitation to mostly family and close friends asking them to come but requiring them to abide by all the infection control measures. A wedding that looked like a beautiful masquerade! I arrived at the venue in a 1938 De Soto Classic by Classic Auto Rental to meet with Luis who was waiting for me at the Harlingen Convention Center. The place was radiant with fresh flowers by America’s Decorations, the food catered by Stefano’s was amazing, and the cake by Cynthia’s Cakes was absolutely delicious. The guests enjoyed music by a DJ, Arturo Hernandez who created the lighting effects on the dancing floor and against the venues walls pleasing to everyone. All guests took a photo souvenir by stopping and having fun at the Oh So Chic photo booth by John Arriola who was also our cinematographer. Happily tired from dancing I went to the Dove room only to find a beautiful basket filled with my favorite treats compliments of Judith Lehn Medrano from the Harlingen Convention Center. How lucky I was with all these awesome vendors! We did go from 318 guests to 125, however everyone was safe and remained healthy after the wedding. All of our guests were seated only with members of their own household and the tables were all socially distanced. Masks came off only when dinner was served. Otherwise, we all wore masks. In reflection, I can truly say, I had the type of wedding that probably will never be repeated. I can honestly say my wedding ceremonies began on April 18, 2020 and ended November 28, 2020. Do Luis and I have regrets? Honestly NO! We are grateful to have our health, family, friends and excellent vendors that made all this possible and ultimately, quite memorable.

Wedding Day Check In HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

W

hat’s a better way to prepare for one of the biggest days of your life than to get all glammed up surrounded by your best friends and loving family? The bride can spend the morning sipping on mimosas and sitting in the makeup chair while the groom spends a morning with the boys. While many couples choose to get ready for their wedding in their childhood home, some opt for a luxurious hotel room or large suite, where you will have the ample space to relax before you head out to celebrate your special day. A hotel suite with big bright windows can also bring in natural light, perfect for getting your makeup just right and photograph those memorable shots. And we do not forget the dutiful hotel staff that is always waiting to attend to you with quality service. If you happen to be staying in the same room or hotel after the reception, you won’t need to worry about your overnight bag. Remember, these are the moments you will remember for ever!

COFFEE BARS

I

t all started over a cup of coffee for Stephanie & Delisa. The pair met at a San Antonio Starbucks in 2010. Eight years later, they got engaged at the original Starbucks in Seattle. Coffee was important to their story but when planning their New Year’s Eve wedding, they could not find anyone to set up a mobile coffee catering service. So, the couple jokingly suggested creating their own inclusive coffee bar to cater to all couples, families and events across the Rio Grande Valley. And that’s exactly what they did. Just when the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, Stephanie & Delisa bought and renovated an old horse trailer from central Texas. It was a top to bottom transformation that has become the charming Match Made Coffee Bar. They enlisted the help of other small businesses & craftsmen to help in the renovation as they added plumbing & electrical to become a self-sustained unit. The mobile bar has hand milled cedar & a black sophisticated palette to make the presence at your wedding (or any event) classic & inviting. They also use a McAllen roaster and pop-up at other small businesses to promote local. The spotlight is shining on Match Made Coffee Bar as it quickly emerges as the new place to visit in the RGV. Their dedicated customers follow them wherever they go to grab the latest specialty menu items and share in the experience of creating memories over a cup of coffee. For Stephanie & Delisa, a couple match made over coffee, they are spreading love through every sip and story.

Food Trends Outside the Box TREAT TABLES

W

ith the rise of food and menu trends, it’s no surprise that caterers are offering a whole new variety of services and foods to serve at your reception. Because if there’s one thing a guest will remember at a wedding, it’s the food. Why not satisfy their appetites with some unique and nontraditional treats and goodies?

O Coffee is a versatile drink that can be served day or night. A coffee bar with a variety of blends, creamers, mixins, etc, can add a touch of elegance to a brunch reception, cocktail hour, or even a night cap!

Varieties of cheeses paired with smoked meats, crackers and other accoutrements can heighten the experience with the knowledge of a skilled charcutier and a glass of wine.

O What goes better with coffee than donuts! Fluffy and sweet, donuts can be made fresh or prepared as both decorative and sweet with the growing popularity of the donut wall.

O Let’s not forget the kids! If your wedding will see many kids at the reception, have them entertained with a popcorn machine, alongside toppings, or a churro bar to fuel their excitement.

O Donuts are not the only sugary treat couples enjoy. For those who are not cake fans, pie and pastry bars are making appearances at many receptions. Homemade pies, cheesecakes, and empanadas are sure to be a hit!

O Even when the reception’s over the party is still going. For a traditional tornaboda or a late night snack, why not bring our something sweet such as a raspa cart, or savory such as sizzling street tacos from a food truck. A perfect homage to the RGV community!

O On the savory side, while passed hors d’oeuvres are still popular during cocktail hour, why not bring out something artistic such as a meat and cheese station? Your wedding day will be filled with love, excitement, and dizzying moments that come and go. Keep that energy strong with food and drink that not only you will enjoy, but will leave your guests with unforgettable memories.

The Royal Treatment MARIE ANTOINETTE’S BLOW DRY EXPRESS

M

arie Antoinette, the infamous French Queen of the 18th century, has become a symbol of beauty, femininity, and elegance, which in turn translates to independence and empowerment for the modern woman. This historical figure, along with the passion to advocate for women’s natural beauty and confidence is how owner Rubi Trevino brought to life her dream in the form of beauty salon Marie Antoinette’s Blow Dry Express. After years of seeing the power hair care and women building each other up rather than tearing each other down, Rubi knew she needed to continue spreading that love and message in a place where a woman can step through the doors and immediately feel like the most beautiful queen in the world. Thus, Marie Antoinette’s Blow Dry Express was born in early 2020; however, the untimely and shocking COVID-19 pandemic hit, putting a stop on the grand opening. Despite the pandemic, this did not stop Rubi and her team from fulfilling their dream of operating their unique concept, and worked hard throughout 2020 to finally open the salon’s doors to the public in November 2020.

And what a welcome those doors bring the moment they open. French inspired interiors are prominent in the glittering chandeliers, the faux rose RUBI TREVINO wall, and Marie Antoinette’s portrait greeting you as you step into another world. The ladies of the salon greet you with a warm and genuine smile, wrap you in a silk pink robe, and treat you just like the queen that you are. It is there that you will be pampered in luxurious services, from the modern woman’s blow out and hair treatments to styling, all with vegan friendly products catered to every clients needs, and even with Marie Antoinette’s Lashes, an original in salon product offered in silk, premium synthetic or original mink, all to make you look and feel like your absolute best and beautiful self. While Marie Antoinette’s Blow Dry Express is currently open, they are excited to host their Grand Opening celebration on March 21st, and encourage you to follow them on social media for updates. Come visit Rubi and her ladies in waiting at the salon where you will not only find great hair and beauty, but also an everlasting friendship.

hen Bianca and Marco had no choice but to put their August wedding on hold when the COVID-19 pandemic caused the world to come to a stop, they didn’t know when or how they would be able to host their nuptials. As luck would have it, an amazing opportunity presented itself with an Elopement Giveaway with prizes provided by various local wedding vendors, and the pair quickly entered the giveaway. Bianca and Marco were announced the winners, and they quickly set to motion an intimate and romantic celebration to finally say “I Do.” Fast forward to October 16th, 2020, and Bianca looked absolutely stunning in her mermaid lace gown, with a sweeping train and delicate cap sleeves, her timeless bridal style completed with a dramatic veil and a bouquet of white roses and baby’s breath. Her father proudly escorted her down the steps to the entrance of the little chapel, where her grandfather waited to join them as they entered to the string quartets version of “A Thousand Years”. Marco stood at the altar, in a steel blue suit with cream Stetson hat, happily waiting to wed his beautiful bride. Before their audience of thirteen immediate family members, they became husband and wife. The small but intimate reception followed with a lovely dinner, smores by the outdoor fire pit, and a magical first dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”, making the entire evening a timeless affair that could not have been better, even during a worldwide phenomenon. Bianca and Marco want to thank all the vendors who made their wedding dreams possible, and are looking forward to having their big celebration later this summer. Congratulations, Bianca & Marco!

JUST MARRIED March 6, 2021

Leslie Lewis & Reynaldo “Rey” Elizondo Photography  ANAHI WEDDINGS

I

t was during a night out in June 2015 when Rey’s friend, Luis, saw Leslie’s friend, Barbara, and decided to ask her out. Each being wingmen to their friends, Leslie and Rey met for the first time and became close friends for the next two years while their best friends continued their courtship. Leslie moved to Dallas shortly after their initial meeting, until Rey followed in September 2017, and the pair met up for drinks to catch up. Though nervous at first, Leslie accepted Rey’s invitation for a date, and from there the rest was history, a romance filled with big life changes and the small moments that make life special. The two years and six months led to a truly surprising moment on the day that was supposed to be celebrating Leslie’s mother’s birthday. After getting herself ready and Rey running late, Leslie and her mom decided to make a stop to say hello to her grandfather before dinner. Daughter, mother and grandfather stepped out into the backyard garden for some fresh air, where Rey surprised Leslie when he came out from hiding behind Leslie’s favorite tree, and he lovingly asked her for her hand in marriage. Without hesitation, Leslie squealed “YES!” in sheer excitement, and was surprised even further when mariachis spilled out of the pool house to serenade the occasion. Leslie, Rey, and Mrs. Lewis made their way to lunch where the bride’s father, brothers, grandparents, aunts, cousins, and future in-laws joined them to celebrate the couple’s engagement. Leslie and Rey were simply elated that day, and have been ever since!

E

dgar and I met in college and until this day he, doesn’t believe I’m the one who initiated us meeting! 5 years fast forward, he finally proposed; it’s actually kind of funny how it happened. We were in New York for his friend’s graduation and the day of his proposal we woke up late, no time to get ready, and we were almost late for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. While on the ferry, one of our friends asked me to go to the front of the ferry to take pictures. I noticed he was fiddling with my initial ring on my finger and I instantly got super nervous and noticed phones were out. My first words were “shut up!” We were standing over a grated floor that he was so nervous to drop the ring in the ocean! Our time together has been nothing but spectacular, anything we do, we enjoy doing it together and now we get to create even more memories as husband and wife.

oe and I met summer of 2009. We were 16 and attended rival high schools and somehow working at the same summer job. I don’t think either one of us was looking to be in a relationship, but after working together so often, we realized we couldn’t be without each other. We became a couple in February 2010 and through out our relationship, we got to know each other’s similar interests from traveling to coffee, to wrestling to music. Fast forward 10 years, July 24, 2019 in Houston, we saw the band Queen in concert. Seeing the concert through tears, singing along, and without anybody knowing, he had a ring in hand. A dim venue, thousands of lights in the background, and Brian May singing “Love of My life,” Jose got down on one knee in the middle of the concert and asked me if I’d be “the love of his life”. I said “Yes!” The crowd cheered. It was the perfect concert proposal and a memory of a lifetime.

n a sunny day in May Lazaro surprised me with a trip to Paris. I was so excited because Paris is a beautiful and romantic city and there was no one else I’d rather explore it with. Once in Paris, we explored, shopped, and visited the Louvre Museum. One morning after a light and romantic breakfast, we went on our way to catch the first hot air balloon flight of the day. It was breathtaking seeing Paris from the sky! I loved every moment and was taking in the view with my boyfriend, my best friend, the love of my life. Before I knew it, Lazaro was on one knee. I was thinking “omg is this really happening right now?” As he was proposing to me, I could think of nothing else but the word “YES!” It was one of the easiest decisions of my life! I entered the city excited to have a great trip with my boyfriend and left overwhelmed with joy having a fiancé that I would get to spend the rest of my life with.”

ector and I met through a mutual friend in 2010 and we officially started dating in January 2011. We went through two long distance experiences together and 8 years later we were finally engaged. We went on a trip to Massachusetts in October of 2018 and on a whim decided to drive to Rhode Island and tour the Newport Mansions. I was so excited to see the homes of the Gilded Ages & even though Hector wouldn’t say it, he was fascinated. After a long day of history, Hector chose to propose while we were in the backyard of the beautiful Rosecliff Mansion in Newport overlooking the cove. Neither of us remember what he said, but we were both happy and excited. We definitely took our time in this 10 year relationship, but we have created a beautiful life and are fully confident and excited for marriage!

t truly was fate when Destiny and Angel met during a time Destiny saw no room for dating. However, when she ran into Angel, whom she had known for two years, and he asked her for a haircut and to treat her to dinner afterwards, her heart knew to leave things in God’s hands and to let her guard down. For when she saw Angel, she knew deep down he was there for a reason. They went on their first date on that June 2019 day, and Destiny knew she had met her Angel when she felt everything was different. The next nineteen months flew by in a whirlwind of adventures, travels, and their unique opposite personalities that fit like a puzzle, all culminating in a spell binding love that even defied a shocking global pandemic. Little did Destiny know what was waiting for her in the New Year, when on February 5, 2021, she and Angel were expected to meet with a DJ at the McAllen Convention Center for an event they were planning. Already feeling “hangry”, Destiny insisted they eat at her favorite restaurant Hayashi before the meeting time. Just as they were giving their orders, they received a call to meet with the DJ shortly, and they left much to Destiny’s dismay who wondered if the trip was worth it. When they arrived at the Palms Crossing Center, Angel insisted they take a nice walk up to the convention center, and he soon led her to a large fountain where Destiny saw large, lit letters that spelled “Marry Me”, with a large heart shaped design of rose petals laid before her. She was truly shocked when Angel got on one knee to ask her, “Is this worth it?” Destiny, with tears in her eyes and her hunger forgotten, happily and gleefully said “Yes!” to his truly surprising proposal. For Destiny and her Angel, it was always worth it…

t was December 2019, Garrett and I were on our way to Las Vegas to go watch the NFR and experience the Vegas life for a few days. This was a trip we had been looking forward to for a long time since it was our first trip out of Texas together. I couldn’t wait to go to the rodeo and experience Cowboy Christmas and shop until I dropped. We had some friends meet us at Cowboy Christmas and after that, we went to go watch the Ultimate Bullfights. After an amazing experience filled with intense action and rank bulls, we went to have dinner at Top of Binion’s Steakhouse. We had just ordered dinner when I looked over to my left and saw Garrett down on one knee with the most beautiful diamond ring! My eyes filled with tears of joy, I said “YES” to the man of my dreams at the most magical place, as if this vacation wasn’t already perfect enough getting engaged was the topping on the cake. I can honestly say I found the perfect man of my dreams and I cannot wait to take his last name.

arch 30, 2019 was the day. The proposal was an intimate and magical experience. Raul had the back patio of Loretto’s reserved just for the two of us. As I walked into the patio, he was playing “Antes que al mío” by Los Claxons on a piano. I was then amazed as I saw many beautiful flower arrangements that adorned the place. There were big letters that spelled MARRY ME surrounded by rose petals. He then got on one knee and asked to spend the rest of our lives together and I said YES!

shley and Alexander met in 2008 as freshman’s in high school. Their friendship grew over the years and in 2011 they became official. After being together for 8 years, Alex planned a trip to Disney World to celebrate Ashley’s graduation and give her the biggest surprise of her life. The perfect scenery was in front of Cinderella’s castle where fireworks lit up the sky. At this moment, Alexander got down on one knee and asked Ashley “Will you be my wife”. This trip was everything and more than expected and both Ashley and Alexander can not wait for Spring to get here and celebrate the next chapter of their life.
