NEW PATHS TO WELLNESS

FXB Anthem, part of the Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping franchise, combines cardio kickboxing, strength training, nutritional guidance, one-on-one coaching and special challenges to help train and fuel your body while keeping motivation top of mind.

“At FXB Anthem, it’s not just about offering classes, we’re trying to help you find balance in your whole life and changing people’s mindset to be excited to go to the gym,” owner and head coach Katie Lunde told Valley Vibe.

It was in graduate school when Lunde joined Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping in Denver, CO. Having been an athlete and an active individual the majority of her life, Lunde said working out moved to the bottom of her list while pursuing her master’s degree. Ready to get back into the swing of working out, she said she was attracted to the Farrell’s program since it went beyond the workout alone and had more emphasis on lifestyle change.

She started as a member and was so passionate about the program that a couple years later

she became an instructor to help positively impact others, until the pandemic hit. When her full-time career in social work became remote-based, Lunde began weighing her options for the long term, ultimately deciding to open the franchise here, taking her career in a different direction of helping others while moving to Phoenix to be closer to immediate family.

Creating a sense of community in the gym—a place where members cultivate new friendships, and instructors know members on a first-name basis—is the key to fostering accountability and ultimate success in the program, Lunde said.

Because of its already tight-knit community, Lunde said she felt Anthem would be a great location for the platform FXB is built upon.

When asked how FXB differs from other choices in the area, Lunde said, “We take the guesswork out of it for you. Just show up and know that all workouts can be modified based on an individual’s needs, along with your nutritional goals.”

In addition to the cardio kickboxing classes, the strength training component is plyometrics based, only using resistance bands, medicine balls and body weight during each instructor-led workout designed to help build lean muscle. The nutritional component includes meal plans and advice from an accountability coach. Access to online classes is also included.

Memberships can be purchased annually or on a monthly basis and can include three or six days per week. Classes are offered Monday through Friday in the morning and evening and Saturday mornings. Free trial classes are available.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL KICKS OFF IN ANTHEM

In December, the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Executive Board voted to establish girls flag football as the association’s newest sanctioned sport.

And, in January, a local youth league—Core 5 Flag Football—formed its first teams for girls wishing to participate in the sport.

Even before the announcement from the AIA, Core 5’s Ruth Longo said the plans were already in motion to

bring the girls sport to the league, which has teams in Anthem and Peoria.

“We attended a summit in July where we could feel the energy for this big momentous shift for women’s sports, and now with this announcement, girls flag football is becoming a huge movement and there’s this big push for it to become a sport at the high school level,” Longo told Valley Vibe in a phone interview.

A total of 36 girls signed up for this inaugural season, which runs

through March 3, with games played on Friday evenings at Anthem Community Park’s soccer fields. Many of the participants are sisters who have watched their brothers play in the league for a number of years, and some are also cheer team participants through Core 5 who wanted to try something new, Longo said.

“When we kicked off [at the season opener], it was excitement all over the place, nobody cared about the score… it was all about

the girls having a good time,” Longo said.

The next season runs from March 31— May 12, and registration is currently underway. Currently there are two divisions girls can sign up for: 9U (ages 7, 8, 9) and 12U (ages 10, 11, 12). Once the girls league becomes more established, a third age group will be added. Visit www.core5ff. com for registration information.

The Foothills at Arroyo Norte by William Ryan Homes is the final phase of the development with lot sizes available at a minimum of 16,800 square feet—roughly double the size of the area’s average lot size. The community is located at the southeast corner of Frontage and Circle Mountain roads in New River.

Six customizable single-story floor plans ranging between 2,455–3,216 square feet can be built to suit with options such as casitas, suites, pool houses, RV garages and 4–5 car garages.

Two model homes are open to the public: The Tierra, a 2,455 square-foot-design offering 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a 3-car tandem garage, as well as The Orion, a 3,036 square-

foot-design with 4 bedrooms, a game room, and 3.5 baths, and a 3-car garage. Base pricing ranges between $734,900–$845,900.

Standard features include granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, tiled walk-in showers, ceramic tile flooring, and smart home technology which includes an automation hub to control all your devices in addition to a video doorbell, thermostat control and light switch controls.

As of this writing, William Ryan Sales Consultant Susan Collins told Valley Vibe 10 homes have been sold to date and another 10 homesites have just been released for sale. The total number of homesites within the community is 67.

Arroyo Norte receives EPCOR water and sewer services. School boundaries lie within Deer Valley Unified School District, with students attending New River Elementary, Gavilan Peak School for middle school and Boulder Creek High School. Great Hearts Anthem, a K-12 charter school, just opened a new campus just west of the community last fall.

NEW ADVENTURE IN THE HIGH COUNTRY

Tubing and a Year-Round Coaster Adventure

Canyon Coaster Adventure Park, a new place for snow tubing and winter fun in the high-country made its debut this season in Williams.

The park’s state-of-the art snowmaking system ensures there’s plenty of snowpack to keep the tubing hill operational until mid-April, when Mother Nature isn’t producing enough snowfall.

Guests are transported up the mountain on a moving belt to prepare for the tube ride down the hill.

Bonus: Watch the Kids and Stay Warm

For parents and guests who would prefer to keep an eye on the kids but stay out of the cold, and perhaps enjoy an adult beverage, there’s a full bar and grab-andgo restaurant with 23 big screen TVs― seven of which are dedicated to live feeds showing guests on the coaster and on the tubing hill.

“We have made a tremendous amount of snow this year, and there are some locations that have 14 feet of snow,” General Manager Patrick Follett told Valley Vibe.

To top the visit off, year-round rides (weather permitting) are offered on the park’s signature attraction―Canyon Coaster, the only mountain coaster in the state which allows guests to take in the scenery on the way up and the opportunity to control your own speed down the milelong Alpine track with steep descents, dips, twists, turns and corkscrews.

After the snow tubing season ends, the park transitions to summer tubing on a plastic slope.
