Shine, shimmer & sparkle

T

he party season will soon be upon us! It’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family, and have a glass of prosecco or two. But it can also be a super busy time of year - so let’s take time out early and get your party outfits sorted with these tips for how to shine in this social season.

The AW’18 catwalks have been overflowing with the ‘casual glitz’ trend – which is perfect for the party season. Think sequins matched with woollens and boots, shimmer thread through your jumper or a sprinkle of sparkle on your pumps. The casual glitz look is very much relaxed styling – and what we are aiming for is looks that say you’ve

out your shoulders and give the impression of a wonderful hourglass figure. So what’s the best casual glitz in the shops near us right now?

made an effort but at the same time you haven’t tried too hard. Plus this trend is very much an easy style - wear your top or bottom half glamorous and the other relaxed. This also means that your party wardrobe can go so much further by mixing and matching - which is a double win! But before we get stuck into browsing the shops – let’s take a moment to think about your body shape and how to maximise that with a touch of sparkle in the right place. Sparkle and shimmer are great at saying ‘hey look at me’ which means that they are best used in the places you want to emphasise. So if your hips are wider than your shoulders, you might consider yourself a pear shape - and pears look great when wearing their sparkles on their top half. This draws all the attention away from your hips and towards your lovely narrow shoulders. Now, if your hips are narrow compared with your shoulders, and you have more of an athletic build with a strong shoulder line – then you look great with sparkles on your bottom half. The result will balance

Twinkle Tops This sequin top from Next has a straight cut and T-shirt-style neckline which lends a casual touch to a design that might look highmaintenance at a first glance. It also comes in a variety of colours - so why not choose one that makes you look fab (and that could be something other than black!). Teal is a great colour that works on most people, especially if you have blue or green eyes. Or if you have blonde hair then the blush colour would look gorgeous on you! You could wear with black or a dark coloured leather or leather look trouser, or even a relaxed blue jean. If you were looking for a subtler why to shine, then this shimmer batwing jumper from Phase Eight is perfect – as it will inject a little bit of colour too (and purple is another colour which is great on all skin tones). This is a great top for dressing up or down - dress up with a pencil skirt that you probably already have in your wardrobe. Add a pair of sparkly heels and you are ready to party! Or you could also team it with the leather trousers or jeans (as above) to match the occasion and how glitzy you want to be. And last but by no means least, you could pop this fabulous velvet biker jacket over anything from jeans and a t-shirt, to a party dress to add some party style. Biker jackets are great for creating an hourglass silhouette so work very well on most body shapes.
