Education like no other.

UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Situated next to one of Phuket's largest National Parks, UWC Thailand is a not-for-profit school that welcomes students from Nursery to Grade 12. At UWCT, our students are given the unique opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate, but in a way that is indelibly enriched by the United World College movement and our location in the "Land of Smiles." Our expansive grounds also benefit from being adjacent to Thanyapura, Asia’s largest sports and wellness resort.

An Educational Oasis Encircled by rubber tree plantations and virgin rainforest, United World College Thailand (UWCT) sits nestled in the foothills of Phuket’s green-capped mountains, away from the island’s busy city centres yet only 15 minutes to Phuket International Airport. Our unique location is both symbolic and intentional; a physical reminder that in addition to academic rigour, the UWCT community values wellness and environmental stewardship. UWCT is currently home to over 450 day and boarding students representing more than 70 nationalities, and ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years.

Described by a UWCT parent as akin to “finding Never, Neverland,” UWCT is a verdant, healthy space where students from around the world work towards realising our mission to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. It is a place where students, parents and staff are actively involved in the pursuit of a balanced mind, a kind heart, a healthy body and a better world. Underpinning these pursuits is our commitment to delivering a robust academic programme that encourages students to become life-long learners. From monitoring coral reefs and providing nutritious lunches, to embedding positivelyfocused mindfulness into our curriculum all the way from Nursery to Grade 12; the betterment of our students, our community, and our planet are at the centre of everything we do.

An International Curriculum; A Thai Experience Celebrating Thai culture and embracing Thai language, UWCT aims to ensure that students not only get a world-class international education, but also an experience that is distinctly Thai. Aligned with our mission and enabling our holistic focus on mind, body and heart, UWCT’s programme uses the liberal-arts-based International Baccalaureate (IB) as its educational framework. UWCT is a fully authorised IB continuum school, offering the Primary Years Programme (K-5), Middle Years Programme (6-10) and Diploma Programme (11-12). Our Early Childhood programme, from Nursery to Preschool 2, also uses the PYP framework as a basis for its play-based approach. Globally recognised by universities for its rigorous programmes, the IB provides a platform for UWCT students to reach their educational goals by focussing on thought-provoking questions, pursuing the answers, and then reflecting on their own learning. It also places emphasis on the value of character development and on-going community service. The IB Learner Profile aims to develop learners who are: • Inquirers • Knowledgeable • Thinkers • Communicators • Principled

• Open-minded • Caring • Risk-takers • Balanced • Reflective

To help foster intercultural understanding, UWCT embraces cultural traditions from around the world. With the help of our Parent Support Group, the school hosts celebrations for Loy Krathong, Diwali, Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid and Chinese New Year to name a few.

In addition, UWCT is considered UWC's pioneer in embedding social-emotional learning and mindfulness (SEL&M) into our curriculum. Under the direction of our Mindfulness Mentor, our staff, students, and parents develop their ability to think and act mindfully using time and strategies inside and outside the classroom.

Underpinning the IB framework, all UWC schools also share a common mission and set of values – at the centre of which is the creation of a deliberately diverse community. Learning in a diverse community helps create opportunities for students to appreciate multiple perspectives, to understand the power of collaboration and communication in all its forms, and to experience first-hand that our similarities far outweigh our differences.

An Invitation to Get Messy Authentic learning happens here! While our surroundings may be calm and pristine, we believe that learning is an exhilarating and messy process; full of mistakes to be embraced and opportunities to be pursued. Every student at UWCT is encouraged to stretch their boundaries in a way that results in authentic learning through personal challenge.

Through a scaffold of activities and experiences that allow for skill development and eventual mastery, our students learn to stretch their boundaries during outdoor education, after school activities, extended-essay research, and planning a week-long service project. Each year our students realise what we know already: they are capable of much more than they think. As a result of these experiences, UWCT graduates witness first-hand the impact they can have on the wider world, and they leave our campus understanding the transformational power of life-long learning.

As a school affiliated with the World Academy of Sport, UWCT offers students who excel in swimming and triathlon a modified academic programme to enable them to realise both their educational and sporting dreams. Thanyapura also offers our students access to the only FINAapproved pool in South East Asia, as well as an Olympic-calibre coaching staff.

An Opportunity to Learn with the Best To take risks and make mistakes, students need to be part of a learning community where they feel safe and supported. To create this culture of kindness, UWCT searches the globe for teachers and leaders who are not just experienced educators, but also great human beings. Under the guidance of our eclectic and passionate staff, UWCT students are able to stretch themselves while developing grit, strength of character, an open mind, a global perspective and a range of intellectual tools that set them up for future success.

A Global Network of Future Leaders Much more than a group of schools, UWC is an educational movement. Created by educational pioneer and Outward Bound founder Kurt Hahn, UWC came to life in post-war 1962, fuelled by Hahn’s belief that education can be a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. This belief now serves as the unifying mission for every United World College, whether in Europe, North America, South America, Africa or Asia.

Currently chaired by Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, United World Colleges bring together young scholars from all backgrounds into deliberately diverse schools across the globe. Once united in the Diploma Programme, UWC students explore their shared humanity, develop passion for social change, and become young leaders whose courageous action can positively change the world.

As part of UWCT's commitment to sustainability, our student-run nursery has grown more than 2,000 trees and re-planted more than 4,000 back into the local mangrove ecosystem. Mangroves' ability to isolate over half of the planet’s green carbon makes them one of the most productive ecosystems on Earth. It also makes their rehabilitation an incredibly beneficial way to help offset our carbon footprint.

A Family Affair At UWCT, we expect the values that guide our educational programme to be embraced not only by our students, but by their families as well. To help foster the adoption of our core values and the creation of a diverse, but like-minded community, we host family-friendly events, provide ample volunteer opportunities, and offer classes in Thai language and mindful parenting. UWCT’s values: • Intercultural and international understanding • Celebration of diversity • Independence with integrity • Interdependence with respect • Compassion and service • Environmental stewardship • Personal example • Resilience and a growth mindset • Idealism and courageous action At UWCT, students and parents are able to model a healthy lifestyle by utilising their complimentary membership to Thanyapura. Adjacent to the school, Thanyapura is the largest sport and wellness facility in South East Asia. In addition to two luxury hotels and two restaurants, Thanyapura features four swimming pools, six tennis courts, a running track, a fullsize rugby field, two performance gyms, fitness studios, a Muay Thai ring, CrossFit birdcage and a mindfulness centre.

Students at UWCT enjoy a Physical Education programme designed to develop leadership and sportsmanship alongside skill mastery. Students looking to participate on school teams can choose from track and field, football, swimming, volleyball and cross-country.
