IMPROVING LIVES. HELPING OTHERS. Imagine a central Iowa where all individuals and families achieve their potential – educated, financially stable, healthy. Where children receive a quality education, their pathway to a bright future. Where we end the cycle of poverty and financial dependence. And create productive livelihoods. Where everyone has effective health care. And makes healthier choices. Where our community achieves bold, measurable goals in Education, Income and Health.
Together, through United Way, we can.
GOALS FOR 2020
EDUCATION Cut by half the number of high school students who do not graduate on time. United Way invests in quality early learning, literacy success, and in- and afterschool interventions. Result: High school graduation rates increased in 16 of 20 central Iowa school districts, with a 5.6% increase in the Des Moines Public Schools.
INCOME Cut by half the number of low-income families who are financially unstable. United Way invests in job preparation and placement, income growth, money management, affordable housing, and a safety net of food and shelter. Result: 1,523 low-skilled individuals received job training through United Way partners; 444 were placed in jobs, and 90 percent (compared to a goal of 60 percent) were still employed after six months.
HEALTH Cut by half the number of children and adults who are unhealthy or engage in risky behavior. United Way invests in access to care, safe environments, and wellness that promotes healthy eating and lifestyles. Result: Over 9,000 individuals access United Way-supported health services every three months, including physical and mental care, end-of-life care and substance abuse treatment.
United Way outperforms 96% of the nation’s charities in accountability and responsibility with your dollars. We have earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating (★★★★) for six straight years.
