a magical summer... uw camp kesem 2011 If

you ask a CKUW counselor or camper about our week of camp this past August, the likely reaction will include: • an instant smile across the face • the return of a summer glow to the skin • theatrical hand gestures to describe their awesome experience • and one important question: “Do you know the llama song?” It’s quite difficult to find words that can describe our amazing week of UW Camp Kesem. With 38 campers, an incredible administration staff, fantastic counselors, unpredictably beautiful weather, and multiple acres of woods to play games in, it was the perfect week. We spent our six days at Camp Lakotah in Wautoma, Wisconsin, the same camp we held UW Camp Kesem at in the summer of 2010. It is incredible to think of how much our organization has grown to welcome new families and friends into the Kesem family, and it has happened after only two years of college students planning, fundraising, and bringing magic to a wonderful group of kids and their families. Our days at Camp Kesem this summer were spent swimming in the beautiful lake, singing, learning archery, fun arts and crafts, adventure games, team building activities, and so much more. Each day followed a fun and exciting theme, with Magic Day, Time Travel Day, Pirate Day, Color Wars Day, Ooey Gooey Messy Day, and our very own Wisconsin Day. Campers had the exciting chance to see “Coco,” the gorilla, wandering the woods of Camp Lakotah, dressed in his circus red vest and looking for bananas and chocolate. By the end of the week campers and counselors alike were exhausted, but all were excited to show off their skits, songs, and acts at the 2nd Annual CKUW Talent Show. As college students, there is nothing like singing “Varsity” with your campers at the end of the night, and dancing to “Jump Around” during breakfast. Never have we been so proud to be Wisconsin Badgers. In this past year and summer, our family has grown and we could not feel more grateful to be welcoming these families to be a part of our own Kesem family. During this next year of planning, we will be instituting a “Teen Camp” at CKUW, where we will welcome kids 14-16 years of age for a new and exciting CKUW experience, and of course planning for another magical year! We are so thankful for our donors and supporters, families, campers, students, and friends that make CKUW the magical place that it is. Thank you so much. Make sure to “like” our Facebook page (Camp Kesem UW-Madison) and follow our Twitter feed (uwcampkesem) to stay up to date on CKUW this year! We look forward to an exciting year ahead, and cannot wait to have our families and friends along for the ride! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for a Camp video to come soon as well! - The UW Camp Kesem Staff
