11449 Frances Green Dr. North Potomac, MD 20878 May 29, 2009 Ms. Kerry Lunz Holland & Knight LLP 1201 West Peachtree St. One Atlantic Center, Suite 2000 Atlanta, GA 30309 Dear Ms. Lunz: I am a rising second year law student at the University of Virginia School of Law, and I write to express my strong interest in a summer associate position with Holland & Knight. I am particularly attracted to Holland & Knight’s alternate dispute resolution and international trade practice groups as well as its firm culture. My experience as a paralegal at Winston & Strawn contributes to my firm interest in Holland & Knight’s diversified litigation and corporate practice groups, specifically the international litigation and government contracts practice areas. My two year experience at Winston & Strawn enabled me to develop analytical, organizational and research skills specifically related to the legal field. I was also able to develop leadership skills by supervising and coordinating a team of 24 contract attorneys during document review projects for tight production deadlines. Moreover, my knowledge of four languages enabled me to assist attorneys in other practice groups. I translated German language contracts into English, participated in the document review process for a German white collar crime case, and assisted attorneys in the pro bono department on asylum cases for French and Spanish speaking clients. In addition, my French and Cameroonian citizenships and my experiences in these countries and the United States enable me to quickly adapt to the challenges of new environments and to communicate effectively with individuals of different backgrounds. I am confident that I possess the skills you seek in your summer associates and that my exposure to the practice of law at Holland & Knight will be an asset to both your firm and my legal education. I have attached my resume for your review and welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the possibility of summer employment at Holland & Knight. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to speaking with you soon. Sincerely, Lydie M. Essama

Mr. James Whitehead The Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia 633 Indiana Avenue, NW Washington D.C. 20004 Dear Mr. James Whitehead: My name is Jeree Harris. I am a second year student at the University of Virginia School of Law. I am writing to express my interest in a legal clerkship with the Community Defender Division or the Civil Legal Services Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. For the past five years I have dedicated my academic experience and extracurricular activities to public service. I entered the College of William and Mary as a Sharpe Community Scholar. Sharpe Scholars are freshman students selected to develop community projects based on their service interest. After freshman year, I continued to seek academically enhanced service opportunities. As a sophomore, I designed a major entitled Social Justice and Community Advocacy. The major consisted of public policy, sociology, and service-learning courses. The major was the first of its kind, and inspired the creation of the Community Studies Minor Program at the College. A majority of my service-learning courses involved service projects with Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, particularly their alternative education program for students with behavioral difficulties. After volunteering at the alternative program !"#$"%&#$'$(&'#$)*&$+,*""-$."'#/$'00"10,&/$2)+$3-'0$)"$,-"+&$)*&$+,*""-4$$5*&$+,*""-$."'#/6+$ decision spurred my interest in child advocacy and the law. I decided to create a campaign to stop the school board from closing the school. I spoke at school board, city council, and board of supervisor meetings. I contacted the mayor of Williamsburg and wrote a letter to Governor Tim 7'20&4$$8$#&,&2%&/$'$-&))&#$!#"9$:2#;202'6s Education Secretary, Thomas Morris that was !"#<'#/&/$)"$)*&$,*'2#$"!$)*&$+,*""-$."'#/$&=3#&++20;$)*&$>"%&#0"#6+$+133"#)$!"#$'-)&#0')2%&$ education. The school board ultimately decided to keep the alternative program. As a law student, I have continued to focus on defending and advocating for youth. For the past year I have volunteered and worked with JustChildren, a program in the Legal Aid Justice Center, that represents low-income families and children in education and juvenile justice cases. Additionally, I have supplemented my practical skills with course work. I have taken courses on special education law and mental health and juvenile justice. This year I will work in the child advocacy clinic and I am taking a course on education law and policy. My interest in education law and juvenile justice along with my passion for advocating !"#$,*2-/#&06+$#2;*)+$."1;*)$9&$)"$-'<$+,*""-$'0/$,"0)201&+$)"$20+32#&$9($,'#&&#$3')*4$$?+$'$-'<$ ,-&#@$!"#$)*&$A1.-2,$B&!&0/&#6+$C&#%2,&$8$<2--$.#20;$!ive years of experience as a community advocate, as well as a working knowledge of the issues involved in protecting and defending children. Thank you for your consideration of my application. I greatly appreciate it. 112 Ivy Gardens Apartment No. 6 Charlottesville, VA 22903 August 4, 2008 Mr. Edmund T. Baxa, Jr. Foley & Lardner LLP 111 North Orange Avenue Suite 1800 Orlando, FL 32801 Dear Mr. Baxa: My name is Linda Otaigbe and I am a first year law student at the University of Virginia School of Law. I am writing to express my interest in working with Foley & Lardner LLP and Just Neighbors for the summer of 2008 as a pro bono intern. As the daughter of immigrants from Nigeria, I understand the difficulty that is involved in adjusting to a new country, having enough financing for proper legal representation, and finding support from people and programs that understand your unique issues. I have always been committed to pro bono work and I have a unique understanding of the issues that face immigrants. Some of my commitment to pro bono work can be seen from my spending several months before law school in a program designed to assist non-native English speakers with their reading, writing and comprehension of the English language. I volunteered as a Literacy Volunteers of America tutor and helped a highly educated Egyptian woman who was working three jobs just to support her family increase her reading and writing skills to improve her future job prospects. My other pro bono experiences have involved volunteering as an emergency medical technician and helping those in the community that needed emergency assistance for traumatic injuries such as knife wounds, bee stings, and abdominal injuries. I also volunteered this past winter break at a pro bono law firm in Northern Virginia and assisted attorneys with discovery motions for family law and domestic violence cases. Currently, I am volunteering in Charlottesville at another pro bono law firm, Capital Representation Resource Center, where I assist the firm in creating a concise database of past death penalty cases from Virginia, in order to assist with future research. I found both of these experiences to be immensely rewarding and they have further reaffirmed my desire to make a difference in the community by helping those that have difficulty helping themselves. I feel that Foley & Lardner LLP and their partnership with the Just Neighbors program will offer me an excellent introduction to the legal profession and pro bono work. I believe my professional and academic background, along with my intense interest in working with others to find solutions to problems, would allow me to make a valuable contribution to your commitment to pro bono work in Northern Virginia. I have enclosed my resume for your review and I welcome the opportunity to elaborate on my qualifications and my interest in a position as an intern. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Linda Otaigbe Enclosure

Region Greenberg Traurig, P.A. 1221 Brickell Avenue Miami, Fl 33131 Dear Ms. McKeegan, I am a second year law student at the University of Virginia School of Law. As a native of the Miami-Dade County area, I am familiar with the Miami legal market and it would be a great opportunity to work full time in the place that I call home. I am interested in Greenberg Traurig because of its impressive reputation, commitment to diversity and community leadership. In June, I completed an internship in the chambers of the Honorable Cecilia Altonaga in the United States District Courts, Southern District of Florida. Moreover, I explored my interests in litigation by observing advocacy techniques in the courtroom. In addition to my strong writing skills, I strive to be a well rounded individual. I am very active in my law school and local community. I serve as a UVA Peer Advisor and a big sister to a Charlottesville student. As social chair of the Black Law Students Association, I organize social events and foster relationships within the members. Enclosed please find my resume for your review. I have interests in many areas of the law and would greatly appreciate the practical education that working with your office would provide.
