Today’s game marks the final exhibition contest of the season for the fourth-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols. UT opened the preseason slate with a 110-66 win over Carson-Newman on Nov. 2 in Knoxville. The Lady Vols return all five starters from a team that went 32-3 and won the SEC regular season and tournament championships in 2009-10. Leading the way for the Big Orange are preseason All-SEC First Team honorees senior Angie Bjorklund and junior Shekinna Stricklen.

The Lady Bulldogs enter the 2010-11 season as the two-time defending NAIA National Champions, winning four of the last six titles. Union returns three All-Americans in Kayla Hudson, Zeinab Chan and Lavanda Ross. The team was ranked No. 1 in the preseason NAIA poll and voted to repeat as the TranSouth Conference champions by the league’s nine coaches. Chan was selected as the TranSouth preseason player of the year, while Hudson and Ross join Chan on the preseason all-conference team.

FEATURED LADY VOL OF THE GAME HEAD COACH PAT SUMMITT She is respected, ethical, and a winner who serves as a shining example in the sport of collegiate basketball. “She” is Pat Head Summitt, head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer basketball team, who entered the stratosphere of collegiate coaching when she recorded her 1,000th career win during the 2008-09 season. Summitt, who will be entering her 37th season at the helm of the Lady Vols, has a 1,037-196 overall record and raises the bar in the collegiate basketball world every time she steps out on the court. Summitt, already the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history (men or women), enters the 2010-11 campaign with eight NCAA Championships in the trophy case including her most recent back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008. During her tenure, the Lady Vols have won eight NCAA titles, as well as an amazing 29 Southeastern Conference tournament and regular season championships. Tennessee has made an unprecedented 29 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament and produced 12 Olympians, 19 Kodak All-Americans named to 33 teams, and 74 All-SEC performers. Along with the success on the court, Summitt’s student-athletes have tremendous productivity in the classroom. Coach Summitt has a 100 percent graduation rate for all Lady Vols who have completed their eligibility at Tennessee.
