The weather has definitely started to shift and for many of us (especially up North) the indoor season is upon us!

If you have tennis instructors or know of anyone who is interested in starting the certification process through the USPTA, you will find the information you need in this newsletter or you can also locate it at USPTA.com. Over the past five years the old "testing" has changed into a certification pathway that includes a comprehensive learning program. This gives new applicants an opportunity to come out of the certification pathway more qualified and capable to be the best teaching professional they can be.

Racquet sports “Boom” in the private club industry In recent years, the private club industry has witnessed a sudden growth in racquet sports such as tennis, pickleball, platform tennis, and padel. These sports have become increasingly popular among club members of all ages and skill levels, and clubs are investing in new facilities and programs to meet the growing demand.

Tennis has long been a staple of private clubs, but its popularity has surged in recent years, particularly among younger players. Clubs are adding new courts, upgrading existing facilities, and offering a range of programming to attract and retain members. From junior programs and clinics to adult socials and competitive leagues, clubs are catering to a diverse range of tennis enthusiasts.

Pickleball, a relatively new racquet sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, has also gained a significant following among club members. The sport's smaller court and slower-paced gameplay make it accessible to players of all ages and abilities. Clubs are adding dedicated pickleball courts and offering lessons, clinics, and social events to attract new players and create a vibrant community.

Platform tennis, a winter sport played on elevated courts with heated surfaces, has also seen a surge in popularity in the private club industry. Clubs are investing in new courts and offering instructional programs, leagues, and social events to keep members active during the colder months.

Finally, padel, a racquet sport that originated in Mexico and then got popular in Spain. It is gaining traction in the private club industry. Clubs are adding dedicated courts and offering clinics, lessons, and tournaments to introduce members to the fast-paced and exciting game.

Overall, the sudden growth of racquet sports in the private club industry is a reflection of the growing demand for active and social lifestyles among members. Clubs that invest in new facilities, programs, and amenities to cater to these trends are likely to thrive in the years ahead.
