Rebeca Osuna, an alumna of USD’s MBA program is currently working in Uganda to assist with the branding of a new restaurant called Olubugo. All of the proceeds of Olubugo go to the care of orphans living with HIV/AIDS through an organization known as Aidchild. Rebeca discovered this opportunity through her connections to Nathaniel Dunigan, the Founder and Director of Aidchild, and one of the PhD Leadership Studies students in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences.

Please visit the following for more information about:

“Helping to brand a new restaurant in Uganda has been an amazing opportunity to clarify my career goals and future plans. During this time the most valuable learning experience I have been given is to analyze the impact of marketing through the lens of sustainability, community, and responsibility.

I wasn’t aware of the complexity and great challenges that represent designing market penetration strategies on informal markets. Growing a business in Africa takes much longer than in other sectors because of the need to align a more complex set of allies and a more complex economic base. After this experience I am envisioning a professional future where I can better apply my talents and skills to respond effectively to the needs of society. My desire upon completion of this summer project is to take advantage of my experience and focus my career on consulting businesses that can directly benefit communities in developing and emerging economies.” –Rebeca Osuna
