Dear Trojan Family and Friends,
On behalf of the Scholarship Bene t Committee we welcome you to the 47th Annual USC Black Alumni Association (BAA) Scholarship Bene t! In 1976, a group of concerned alumni and community leaders met to discuss the needs of minority students on the campus of the University of Southern California.
The trailblazing civil rights organizer, Reverend Dr. Thomas Kilgore, Jr., led the group, which also included Dr. and Mrs. Peter Dauterive and Reverend and Mrs. Thomas Grif th. They would later change the landscape of Los Angeles with their noteworthy contributions to leadership, social justice, and education. They intended to uplift students through nancial contributions for tuition assistance, setting the stage for what would resonate in campus history as the rst scholarships for minority students at USC.
Today, the BAA has awarded over $5 million to support more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. This achievement would not have been possible without the full support of the alumni body, our Trojan friends, and corporate partners. This evening we celebrate the leaders and visionaries of our community; Kiesha Nix, Miki Turner MCG ’18, and Danielle Prince ’00, MA ’02. Congratulations and thank you for your exceptional leadership!
We also want to extend our appreciation and sincere thanks to our 2023 Scholarship Bene t Committee: Daniel Atwater MCG '10, Dennis Earls' 98, Stephanie Farmer MHA '95, MAT '18, Bridgette Kidd '90, MCG '11, Michael Robinson MBA '11, Bryanna Wallace '19, with BAA staff Jasmine Taylor '99, Danielle Harvey '00, ML '19, Faithe Clary, and Ron Autry!
Jasmine Taylor ’99
Executive Director
USC Black Alumni Association
On behalf of USC and the Black Alumni Association, I would like to welcome you to the 47th Annual USC Black Alumni Association (BAA) Scholarship Bene t! As the newly appointed Executive Director of the USC BAA, I can't help but re ect deeply on the shoulders on which I stand - starting with our Founder, Thomas Kilgore in 1976, to all our past executive directors.
These leaders worked tirelessly to strengthen the legacy of educational attainment and excellence of USC’s Black students - nearly 50 years of deeply impactful work Strengthening the legacy of this small but mighty group of Black Trojans has a ripple effect that strengthens us all, across industries and sectors, from business, medicine, journalism, aerospace, education, law, cinema, sports, architecture and so much more.
The ripple effect of a small pebble dropped in this USC river by Thomas Kilgore nearly 50 years ago has reached a mighty swell. Black Trojans have left a mark, not only at USC, but here in our beloved city of angels, our nation and the world – a global footprint that extends far beyond our ancestors’ wildest dreams. We are honoring three of them tonight, Kiesha Nix, Miki Turner MCG ’18, and Daniel Prince ’00, MA ’02. But this is no time to rest on our accomplishments. We have more resources, more access, and more support than ever before. The USC BAA will celebrate a half century of impact in 2026. And as we approach this milestone in our history, it is imperative that we link arms tighter than ever before. Individually we create ripples. Together we represent the collective tide. Thank you for your contribution and continued support of the incredible legacy of education and enterprise for Black students at USC. There is much work yet to be done!
