Rested : While working for a pool management a lifeguard is always advised to take proper rest in order to be focused on the happenings in the aquatic facility. Getting 7 to 10 hours of sleep in 24 hour helps an individual feel relaxed, fresh and geared up for the next day.


Active :

According to research an adults need around 2 to 2 ½ hours’ worth of exercise per week to stay healthy. Even a brisk walk of 15 to 20 minutes a day is quite helpful in lowering the chances of cardiovascular illnesses. It is important for a lifeguard to stay active so they can react to any emergency situation that arises. For a lifeguard it is important to take exercise seriously as staying focused on health will help to keep them on the top of their game.

Use a 5 minute strategy for scanning:

Scientific research and studies show that using scanning strategy helps a lifeguard to stay focused and double their monitoring capability. The scanning strategy comprises of changing posture, counting patrons every five minutes and altering visual scanning. These patterns allows the brain to reset in a sense and avoid fatigue.


Retain Rule Consistent:

It is a duty of a lifeguard to enforce all the rules pertaining to the pool area. This is because everyone should know the expectations of the facility. It is important that a lifeguard firmly and consistently enforces the rules, knowing that any deviation can lead to confusion among patrons. A lifeguard consistently enforcing the rules in that facility can help in preventing any kind of emergencies from happening. Taking care of the patrons and keeping them safe is the highest priority of lifeguards.
