ERDC’s atrium featured over 70 technologies from across USACE with 24 booths from all divisions along with ERDC laboratories.

THE “PUSH” AND “PULL” OF INNOVATION A diverse panel of government and industry thought leaders discussed the obstacles, opportunities and outcomes that can be achieved by combining the “push” of science and technology development with the “pull” of practitioner need. Panel included Dr. Todd Bridges, Army Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science; Dr. Michael Donahue, Corporate Vice President with AECOM Technical Services; Dr. Deborah Edwards, Global Sediment Lead for ExxonMobil; Dr. Edmond Russo Jr., Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management for the Corps Galveston District; Dr. Jane Smith, Army Senior Research Scientist at ERDC; Dr. Mihan McKenna Taylor, Senior Scientific Technical Manager at ERDC; and Dr. Donald Leo, Dean of the University of Georgia College of Engineering.

USACE INNOVATIONS AND CHALLENGES, PART ONE The "USACE Innovations and Challenges" session presented various discipline areas, current gaps/challenges where industry could play a role, and future vision for their areas within the Corps. Panel included Dr. Julie Rosati, Civil Works Business Area Lead Technical Director for the Corps of Engineers; Mr. James Sauceda, Deputy Chief of Engineering and Construction for USACE; Dr. Robert Moser, Senior Research Civil Engineer at ERDC; Mr. Jason Fairchild, CAD/BIM Community of Practice Leader for USACE; and Dr. Chandra Pathak, Senior Engineer for USACE.

LTG Todd T. Semonite, USACE Commanding General, provided a motivational keynote address on the importance of innovation to the Corps.

The session continued the conversation of current gaps and challenges with USACE panel members Dr. Julie Rosati, Civil Works Business Area Lead Technical Director for USACE; Dr. Ariane Pinson, social scientist for the USACE Albuquerque District; Dr. Georgette Hlepas, National Geotechnical Policy Advisor for USACE; Mr. John Bianco, Special Assistant for Dam Safety for USACE; and Ms. Jennifer Chambers, Structural Engineer Community of Practice Leader for USACE.

DAY 2 WELCOME Day 2 began with remarks from Dr. David Pittman and Mr. Tom Holden. Dr. Pittman is the USACE Director of Research and Development and Director of ERDC. Mr. Holden is the Regional Business Director for the USACE Mississippi Valley Division.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: MR. RICHARD KIDD

Mr. Richard Kidd, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Strategic Integration (Installations, Energy and Environment), addressed the need for innovation within the Army.

Mr. David Ollila, president and chief innovation officer of Skypoint Ventures, shared his personal experiences from the invention process.

“Live with USACE Leaders” was moderated by Mr. Ollila and included USACE leaders Mr. Ray Alexander, Director for Contingency Operations; Mr. Lloyd Caldwell, Director of Military Programs; Mr. James Dalton, Director of Civil Works; Dr. David Pittman, Director of Research and Development; Mr. Gary Blohm, Director of the Army Geospatial Center; and Mr. Dovarius Peoples, Director of Corporate Information.

BG Robert Crear (Retired) was joined by Mr. Brad Chedister, Chief Technology Officer for DEFENSEWERX; Mr. John Proskovec from Kiewit Corporation; Mr. Rippert Roberts, Acting Associate Director of the USACE Office of Small Business Programs; Mr. Aaron Snyder, who leads the USACE Public Private Partnerships Programs; and Mr. Bryan Farrens, Senior Manager of Government Programs Business Development, Eaton Corporation.

CLOSING CEREMONY

The closing ceremony featured the Honorable George Flaggs, Mayor of Vicksburg. Master of Ceremonies Dr. Joe Corriveau ended the summit with a charge to "go home and start building on the connections forged this week."
