Labyrint Music Hall A public concert hall for practicing, performing and socialising with music By Johan Urberg Where When What

Umeå University June 2018 Bachelor degree project (solo) Third year Architectural Design + Urbanism Mockup model 1:200

Brief

What sort of forms of live are possible beyond Deconstructing borders homogeneous globalization? We take a detour to A loud public space reinvest what the meaning and ethos of the public Celebrate diversity sphere can be. With controversial potential and intense meaning through the idea of the foreign: how migration fuels innovation; can initiate a new idea of the cosmopolitan. The first phase of the project is a physical and social mapping Deconstructing borders and re-create activities is the essence of the new Concert Pavillion in Umeå city center. `Labyrint´ was born at the many different events for music in Umeå. Existing social life of music in town is rich and has a great potential in planning for the new Umeå. Many medium to small sized events are hosted in smaller locals or big community center around town. They are not equipped with musical instruments nor acoustically pleaseant, they just happen where there is room, it is time to bring out the music to the people and celebrate!

Parc Putxet is a generous parc situated at the nort- Equal standards hern periphery of Barcelona. It is the foot of the Flexible apartments hills of Tibidabo and the whole neighbourhood sloPanoramic views pes downards. Here lies an empty plot that will be brought to use again with a new apartment building. A large dividing wall is facing the plot and needs to be covered by the new building. The area is exclusive and its great height over sea level offers magnificient panoramic view over Barcelona.

Legend Pillar Beam Installation core Seperating walls Window

To blend into the urban fabric the program was stacked in boxes following the topography. The height (24 m) of the dividing wall is settled down by the new apartment building. The structure allows for the box concept to grow vertically and plays a big role in the floor plan configuration. In the center of the apartments there is an installation core where the bathrooms are placed. Each apartment has the possibility to open up their bathroom on both sides and create a hallway between two rooms.

Fragments & Composition A public urban pavillion made in a strict order of repitition that creates infinte perspectives By Johan Urberg Where When What

Umeå University February 2017 Worskhop project (solo) Second year Architectural Design + Spatial concepts Video montage `Estructuras´ by Magdalena Fernandez

Brief

An idea in architecture is an intention that yet not Weightlessness have a concrete form. Through the design process Repitition it is possible to investigate and define the formal Order/disorder configuration of the object. The composition in the design process means `to put something next to something else´ - it is about placement, organisation, and arrengement of different elements. In a short workshop I analyzed the art work `Estructuras´ by Magdalena Fernandez and intepreted it as an architectural object. By defining the spatial qualities, weightlessness - repitition - order/disorder - perspectives, in the artwork different ideas of compostion were made into mockup models.

23

First mockup-model

Final model

The objective of the investigation was to develop an architectural quality and put it into a context. I chose to intepret my concept models as objects which defied gravity, supported by light. I tied together several pieces of paper in nodes in a grid system. The idea was to create as many perspectives as possible without leaving corners. My imagined pavillion was placed in an urban context 26

Current state

Brief

The building on Valhallavägen in central Stockholm is from the 20th century and is considered a cultural important building by the city´s municipality. Being from another time the balcony railing does not meet with todays standards regarding safety. Also the structure of gravel filled concrete is getting old and need an reinforcement to not fall a part. First step was to make a detailed meassurement of the balcony and mark out where the reinforcement and railing could be placed. Second part was to redesign an exisitng railing which we had as reference in the office and place it on top of existing structure.

Brief

An office building courtyard want to reform their parking lot so it can fit a lunch break area. They need Struktur a spot to place a food truck that will come during lunch and more seating area. The solution to their request is a module system that can change during winter and summer. There are some important criterias to fulfill in order to make the best out of the courtyard and still keep parking spaces. 1. minimun 50 parking lots 2. Lunch break area on the sunny side 3. Offset parking space from northern facade so that the cars do not block the smaller office rooms windows
