Known to local cyclists, Oconee County, SC is a hidden jewel for road cycling. There are numerous secondary roads with great mountain and lake scenic views with little traffic. One can choose from moderate rides with rolling country roads to challenging climbs into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area is so well suited for road cycling that the Canadian Cycling teams have been coming to Oconee for training for well over 15 years. They stay in our state park cabins, lake front vacation rental homes and hotels and accumulate hundreds of miles of mountainous road biking during their stay. There are annual cycling events in Oconee County beginning in April and running until October. The events start with Issaqueenaâ€™s Last Ride (ILRSC.com), followed by Rally in the Valley (oconeeforever.org/rallyvalley), Excel Rehab & Sports Ride for Wellness and Road Titans 300 (roadtitans300.com) a 100 mile challenge each day for three days in October. Route maps are available on their web sites, so you can ride during the event or at your leisure. With numerous route options and the quiet, scenic roads, visiting cyclists will understand what local cyclists have known for years - Oconee County, SC is a great cycling destination.
