G.B. Hodge Center / Performance Center G.B. Hodge Center Named for one of the University’s founders, the late Dr. G.B. Hodge, the Center was completed in 1973, underwent renovations in 2000 and is set to undergo a $4 million facelift at the end of the 2009-10 basketball season thanks to a generous gift from Mrs. Dorothy (Dodie) Anderson ’81. The bottom floor is home to the Athletics Department, which includes offices for the athletic administration and coaches. The Hodge Center features a main gymnasium, home to the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the volleyball program, locker rooms and the University weight room, as well as athletic training facilities. The Hodge Center is considered one of the toughest places for opponents to play in the South. The cozy gym, with its fans close to the action, has helped Upstate volleyball to a phenomenal .751 winning percentage, women’s basketball to a .584 winning percentage since 1976 and men’s basketball to an astounding .703 winning percentage since the court’s opening in 1973. Performance Center With the move to Division I, the USC Upstate athletic department has committed itself to building strength and conditioning programs that are designed to meet the needs of all 17 of its programs. As part of that initiative, the school hired its first strength and conditioning coach in Scott Senger in 2007, and he has helped design sport-specific training programs for all 17 programs. In addition, with the guidance of Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine Michael Sandago, the USC Upstate athletic department will remodel space in the Hodge Center to create the Upstate Performance Center, which is set to open in the 2009-10 academic year, giving Upstate student-athletes a workout space that they can call their own.
