Volume Twenty, Issue One January-February 2014

upstate gardeners’ journal - 1140 Ridge Crest Drive - Victor, new york 14564

2013 or 2014? What’s more important... a year in review or a review of the new year? On the business side of it we always figure it’s best to highlight the new and upcoming; you know, keep your customers wanting, be enticed by the next best thing. But for some reason, this January has left us dreaming of the previous season. It was an amazing year for the gardens, a season filled with lush growth, something blooming all the time, low on disease and pests... nearly the perfect gardening year. The Community Veggie Garden at Sara’s was full—over 20 families participated. The Stone Wall Follies made impressive headway on the garden castle ruins, a must see this spring. We planted many new specimen shrubs in the garden and put in over 500 bulbs this past fall. We’ve booked a few garden weddings for 2014 already. It was a very full and rewarding year. The thing about gardening is that looking back inevitably leads to looking forward. You relish in the successes and vow to fix the mistakes and as spring approaches, all is good in the garden. We encourage you to use this time of year to reflect, plan and dream for the season ahead. BTW, the Directory issue of UGJ is a great way to start the plan, a great resource for gardeners in WNY! As a reminder, we will be composting & tilling the community garden as soon as weather permits and the follies will take place this autumn. Both of these have limits on participation so please contact us early if you are interested. For details & reservations for the Stone Wall Follies, Community Garden or any other garden related topic call or email: 585-637-4745; ask for Kathy!

35+ year Mission! It is our greatest desire to provide our customers with top quality, well-grown plant material at a fair and honest price. We will strive to provide an unmatched selection of old favorites and underused, hard-to-find items, along with the newest varieties on the market. We will eagerly share our horticultural knowledge gained from years of education and experience. Lastly, we offer all this in a spirit of fun and lightheartedness.
