A Modular Children’s Room USM Haller Modular Furniture.

Despite the undisputed sophistication of the USM Haller system, the furniture isn’t all appearance. Practicality and immense durability are key traits of this modular system, which is why the units make a welcome addition to the rough and tumble of children’s bedrooms.

The USM Haller system is exceptional for its rather unique ability to look after your child from birth to moving out, as the system is modular the furniture can grow with your child’s changing needs with the colour even changing if required. With the rigorous and exacting quality standards that USM employs, you can expect to depend on every USM product for decades to come. Each door hinge on a USM unit is tested by opening and closing it 40,000 times, ensuring that it makes absolutely no noise on each occasion – just one example of the levels USM go in order to assure a steadfast product.

In addition to the modular pieces themselves, USM also has the USM Set Inos Box available to purchase in various sizes. The collection of storage boxes, complete with longitudinal and traverse partitions, makes compartmentalising (an essential ingredient for success in a child’s room) simple and efficient. Whether for storing clothes, cosmetics, or toys, the USM Set Inos Box help you organise your USM further.

The design of the USM Haller modular system is fantastically simple, however it is the Swiss precision in which the components are made that give the furniture the strength, versatility and clean lines that have made USM Haller a design classic. Launched on to the market in 1965 the USM Haller system has become a watchword for timeless design all over the world. In 1988 it was decided in Germany for the first time ever that the USM Haller furniture system is a work of applied art and should be protected by copyright. Its acceptance into the Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York (USA) at the end of 2001 was a high distinction and confirmed the artistic character of the product.

Macro Rhythms Woven Image Introduces New Innovative Acoustic Finishes

Woven Image, leaders in design-led sustainable acoustic finishes and textiles for the built environment launches its latest collection Macro Rhythms.

Reflecting on the rapidly evolving workplace, Macro Rhythms embraces sensory perception engaging in a visual, tactile and aural experience on a macro scale. Woven Image introduces two new stunning floor-to-ceiling 3D formed panel solutions Column and Curtain, complimented with five tactile EchoPanel® Precision Cut designs, Isle, Orb, Parquet, Mosaic and Current all made of 80% post-consumer recycled content.

As the name suggests, Column is inspired by the undulating symmetrical rhythms of the aweinspiring classical architectural innovation. Due to the design of wave-like peaks and troughs coupled with a depth of approximately 70mm and a combination of non-woven raw materials, significant airgaps are captured in a direct fix wall application providing an acoustically superior solution for open plan commercial interior spaces. Curtain, the asymmetrical cousin to Column, takes on a more freeform fluid appearance. Designed

with an airgap in direct fix wall applications, it displays a beautiful contemporary acoustic macro “curtain effect” where the nonwoven materials appear to ebb and flow across a three-dimensional form. Curtain creates a unique visual delight whilst delivering outstanding acoustic performance.

Curtain is available in 8 colours, the same signature Woven Image colour palette as Column and subsequently driven from the hero colour palette

of EchoPanel 12mm and Mura. Woven Image’s signature marle effect mushroom is included along with warm nutmeg reminiscent of a classic wood tone, dusk a beautifully subtle pink hue, fresh sorbet mint, indigo navy, lush vineyard green, classic cream and the subtle cool neutral frost, completes the palette.

Pushing the boundaries and capabilities of CNC technology, the 5 new precision cut designs in newly developed 80% post-consumer recycled EchoPanel® 12mm are also released as part of the Macro Rhythms theme. Isle, Orb, Parquet, Mosaic and Current are available in the full signature EchoPanel® 12mm colour palette. With floor-to-ceiling application, the vertical sides of the panels feature Woven Image’s signature chamfer, allowing for easy installation with no additional trimming required.

Referencing the current fashion trend for checks, plaids and tartans, Isle features a precision-cut

geometric grid design. Textural variation is created within the grid via an offset linework along with varying the depth of the v-groove cuts.

Drawing inspiration from contemporary art-deco, Orb showcases a bold circular shape, repeated across the panel to give a subtle textural variation creating a sophisticated modern design. Central linework intersecting the circular motifs allows a seamless pattern that matches across panels.

Continuing the Art Deco theme, Parquet introduces large-scale geometric interlocking shapes. Precision-cut v-grooves at varying angles, combined with straight lines, create a 3D effect that gives the impression of the design projecting from the panel.

Inspirated by the artistic styles of Chagall

and Mondrian, Mosaic offers a unique offset asymmetrical appearance, exploring intersecting vertical linework with ad hoc angles creating an irregular freeform geometric effect.

Current embodies sensory design, with flowing linework that evokes the mindful and calming effect of ocean shorelines. Its fluid, vertical design promotes a serene and tranquil atmosphere, making it the ideal acoustic wall solution for spaces requiring a peaceful ambiance.

The Macro Rhythms collection introduces innovative acoustic finishes designed to enhance positive visual, tactile and aural perceptions. These sensorial designs influence and benefit commercial interiors, intensifying positive emotions and behaviours indoors.

Planning approval secured for Birmingham’s first shared living scheme

Cordia UK, a member of Futureal Group, one of Europe’s largest property development companies, has announced planning approval of a first-of-its-kind shared living scheme in Birmingham.

The landmark development will create the city’s first purpose-built shared living environment. Reimagining the HMO concept, Bradford Works will offer 54 self-contained en-suite studio units with well separated, generously sized living and sleeping areas. Boasting the feel of a junior hotel suite, residents will be able to retreat from the various shared amenities and enjoy real privacy.

State-of-the-art communal areas will include modern lounges, professional grade kitchens, dining areas, workspaces, a multi-purpose fitness studio, and a landscaped roof terrace, designed to encourage sharing and collaboration between residents, creating a community of likeminded people with sociability and wellbeing at the core.

Sitting at the corner of Barr Street and Harford Street, the project will see the refurbishment of an existing Jewellery Quarter building, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing the heritage of the local area. Bradford Works will place sustainability

at the core, as a 100% A-rated energy-efficient development.

The project has been designed specifically for Birmingham’s growing population of young professionals, post-graduate students, and freelancers, with research by Cordia UK showing that this target demographic represents around 800,000 people in the Midlands alone.

Furthermore, the research found that in 2022, 22.6% of Birmingham’s households were privately rented, with this figure predicted to rise to 26% over the next five years. In the city centre, 56% of households are privately rented, and this is forecasted to rise to 63%.

Of the 56,000 people that moved to Birmingham internationally or from other local authorities in the UK in 2023, 18,000 relocated from London and other major cities – demonstrating the increasing demand for rental accommodation.

All of the units in Bradford Works will be affordable homes, in line with the...

Sandford PR welcomes Russian For Fish: East-London based architecture practice known forsustainable, playful, contemporary residential design

Founded in 2006 by 3rd-generation architect Pereen d’Avoine, Russian For Fish was born initially as a means of entering an architecture competition (which the practice won), and has since gone from strength to strength. 2025 marks the 10 year anniversary of the current partnership between Pereen and co-director Nilesh Shah - a significant milestone for the pair.

Russian For Fish offers a full range of architectural and interior design services, overseeing every element of client projects for new-builds, complete ceiling-to-gable renovations, extension additions, kitchen transformations, and interior fit-out. Working mostly with clients across the capital and throughout the South-East, the firm is renowned for its unique approach to colour, materials, structure, and architectural detail.

With increased demand for sustainable building applications, Russian For Fish is well positioned as a business which has always encouraged clients to improve the performance of existing housing stock (currently accounting for around 20% of the UK’sCO2 emissions), and to refurbish rather than demolish. They pride themselves on working with local contractors and fabricators, utilising eco-friendly materials and techniques.

Sandford PR is delighted to be working the practice at such an important time in its development.

Speaking on the collaboration, founder and co-director Pereen d’Avoire comments:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Katherine and the team. We’re about to hit an important milestone for the businesscelebrating ten years of my partnership with the wonderful Nilesh in 2025, and it’s the perfect time for us to promote the work we’ve been doing and to tell our story in a way that we’ve never really done. Sandford is an excellent fit, having worked in this industry for many years.

We see our main point of difference in the industry as offering quietly extraordinary designs, focusing on architectural detail and materiality, and truly tailored to the client. We like to think there isn’t really a ‘Russian For Fish look’; instead, we listen and collaborate closely with each client individually and focus on their aesthetic and practical requirements. We work with sustainable surfaces and practices wherever possible. We often work with local craftsmen on our projects, introducing clients to new production methods and solutions not often implemented elsewhere in the sector.

We’re known particularly for our extension work, which creates functional spaces for families filled with natural light.

We have completed lots of projects that we’re incredibly proud of. We look forward to sharing them, and cementing our reputation for homes that balance architectural beauty, with playfulness, practicality and function.”

Welsh Barn Conversion

Warmed with Panasonic Heat Pump

A stone-built property in rural Wales has been installed with a Panasonic Aquarea T-CAP J Series 9kW monobloc air-to-water heat pump to replace an oil-fired boiler. Specialist heat pump installer, Paul Thorney of Air2Heat, specified the Panasonic heat pump to provide the three-bedroom stone wall converted barn property with sustainable heating and domestic hot water. The Panasonic system was purchased and delivered to site through distributors Farr and Harris in Shropshire.

Homeowner, Roger May explained the choice to convert from an oil-fired boiler to an air-source heat pump. He said, “We’ve had oil-fired central heating since we moved in as this was our only option given the property’s rural location. It started off as no problem at all, 7p a litre when we first came, but it’s since peaked at between 8090p a litre. When we first started to investigate alternatives, we didn’t know a great deal about heat pumps, but sought the advice of heating specialist, Paul Thorney from Air2Heat, who is very knowledgeable and has experience of retrofitting older properties.”

Looking for a simple solution that would provide efficient heating, reduce energy consumption and keep energy bills to a minimum, the homeowners turned to the installer, Air2Heat, who after visiting the property and reviewing the heat loss calculations, recommended the Panasonic Aquarea J Series 9kW monobloc heat pump, along with the Panasonic Smart and Service Cloud

controls to be the best solution. The Panasonic units can provide the high energy efficiencies required and can be further monitored with the Panasonic Aquarea smart cloud controls to achieve optimum benefit.

The owners of the property were advised that the installation would be eligible for the UK government BUS grant. With this scheme, installing a heat pump, the homeowner receives a grant of £7,500 from the government.

The new system will also cost them less to run, be more energy efficient and a more environmentally friendly solution.

Paul said, “By specifying the Panasonic Aquarea J Series T-CAP unit it really boiled down to the excellent efficiencies it can deliver, with high performance, and a CoP of up to 5.4. I have been involved in heat pumps since 2015, and from what I have witnessed so far, when it comes down to efficiencies, Panasonic come out best. If other oil users around rural Britain knew how low-cost heat pumps were, we would very quickly expedite the swap. It is reducing their carbon footprint and reducing their bills. In addition, the ongoing support from not only the distributors but also Panasonic, the manufacturer themselves is an excellent bonus.”

Ensuring the temperature remained constant was an important part of the homeowner’s decision, as they wanted to move away from the fluctuating temperatures of the oil-fired system. Homeowner, Sarah May, seeks to dispel the myths of heat pumps. She commented, “It’s absolutely amazing, we’ve got a lovely constantly warm house, it’s not that intense heat when you put your oil-fired central heating on, and your radiators are not scorching hot but more of a milder warmth. A lot of people ask if our heat pump is noisy, no, it is not and surprisingly quiet. We couldn’t be more satisfied with our new Panasonic heat pump system.”

Panasonic Aquarea T-CAP J Series air-to-water heat pump

The Panasonic J Series High Performance heat pump boasts an A+++ Energy Class, available in a range of sizes from 9 to 16 kW, and can be attached to the internal domestic hot water tank (DHW) for ease of installation. With the added benefit of Panasonic Smart Cloud and Service Cloud, that enable remote control and monitoring of the heating system, homeowners are empowered to track energy consumption and control output. Furthermore, installers are given access to remote monitoring capabilities for swift diagnosis and resolution of the system’s operation, reducing wait time and cost.

Paul Thorney complimented Panasonic’s support, stating, “Panasonic’s customer support is amongst the best I have seen in the UK, they are really proactive and offer lots of support throughout, during and after an install. Plus, they are striving to do better all the time, it is not just about the products. As an installer I can see the effort they put into their back up assistance and know there is support in place if anything goes wrong. People are really starting to recognise Panasonic for their heating and cooling solutions like never before in the UK. They really do put the effort in to make these market changes a positive experience. The Panasonic Service Cloud offers even more peace of mind and is free of charge, I know no other manufacturer in the UK that offers this kind of service.”
