Your open day has been designed to inform and inspire you, to help you make the right decision about your next step. Come and see our campuses in bustling Cheltenham and Gloucester, find out about our latest developments as we continue to expand, and discover how we will support you, as an individual, to achieve Your Future Plan. As well as seeing our facilities, you can have one-to-one chats with our lecturers and get an insight into the degree subjects you’re interested in straight from the people who will be teaching you. Everything you need to know about the day is in this booklet, including the programme and information about our campuses and facilities.

Your Future Plan As part of your day, you will hear more about Your Future Plan – our unique scheme to help you graduate ready to progress to a rewarding career. Our dedicated team of tutors and advisers are here to help you match your opportunities to your aspirations. It’s not just about turning up for lectures – by choosing the right field trips, work placements, sports clubs and volunteering roles, you will gain the experiences you need to make Your Future Plan a reality and become the graduate you want to be.


The Open Day Hub is where you can find information about different subject areas and a range of university departments.


You can register from 9.30am onwards. Let us know you are here and get started with your ‘GLO’ open day experience.

From finding course timetables and learning how to write assignments, to accessing dyslexia support, our Helpzone advisers are dedicated to making your university experience the best it can be. Our disability advisers will be available between 10am and 3pm.

Campus Tours You can book your campus and accommodation tours from here at a time to suit you.

Admissions, Accommodation and Finance Have a chat about the accommodation available, the UCAS application process and how to fund your studies. No question will be left unanswered.

Students' Union Activities Discover more about our 100 plus sports clubs and societies, part-time employment and work experience opportunities. You can also find out about our exciting Freshers’ Fortnight.

Student Lounge Head to the Students’ Union bar and hang out with some of our student ambassadors. Have a chat over a drink and find out what it’s really like to live and study here. It’s a really informal gathering and don’t feel you have to bring your guests/parents. We’ll even buy you a (non-alcoholic) drink!

This is your chance to have one-to-one chats with lecturers as well as finance and accommodation teams, support staff and Your Future Plan representatives. Our students will also be on hand for you to talk to. Here's a sneak preview of what will be going on.



6 Essential Sessions Your Open Day


Attending your course talk will be at the top of your priority list but we also recommend our essential talks where you’ll find out more about student life in Gloucestershire. Check out your timetable at the back of this pack to plan your day.

Welcome and Student Life Talk Discover what makes us different and find out about the support we offer every student to create their own unique career plan: Your Future Plan. You‘ll hear what our students think too!

Three Big Questions • How do I get onto my dream course? • How can I afford to go? • Where will I live? These are the questions all students considering university face and this handy session will aim to answer them. We will tackle the all-important UCAS personal statement, demystify tuition fees and explain all the options available for student housing.

Sport for all Whether you’re keen to get involved in sport just for fun, want to compete in the BUCS league, or are eligible for one of our sports scholarships as an athlete, referee or coach, you’ll be able to find out more at this session.

DISCOVER MORE ABOUT YOUR COURSE As well as the course talks, discover more about our degrees with subject-specific immersive sessions. Depending on what you want to study, some of the ‘discover more’ sessions will be included in your course talk while others will be separate. Here are some of the things you can get involved with.


Francis Close Hall and Hardwick There's lots to discover at Francis Close Hall and Hardwick, from sessions on how to perfect an art and design portfolio and ace a teaching course interview, to creative writing workshops and virtual reality drop-ins where you can find out how our psychology degrees use the latest technologies to further understand the human mind.

Oxstalls You will have the opportunity to get hands-on in our nursing facilities, meet the staff and students of the Business School, find out about how our dance, drama and performing arts students perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or discover which sports degree is right for you and tour our specialist sports labs.

From console development kits to cyber forensic labs, get hands-on with the latest tech in our Computing and Technology Suite, or look around our expanded and updated Media Centre, including brand new TV studios and music recording and rehearsal spaces.


8 Park Your Open Day

PARK,, CHELTENHAM - 20 minutes’ walk from Cheltenham town centre - 15 minutes’ walk from Cheltenham Spa railway station

Originally laid out as a zoological garden, our Park campus is a technological and creative hub. Our dedicated research and cyber security labs and purpose-built break-out areas, including games consoles and 4k TV screens equip our computing students with everything they need to excel at their subjects. Creativity and the latest technology come together in our Media Centre, with its broadcast-standard TV facilities, multimedia newsrooms, film, animation and music studios. From September 2018, the campus is also home to our advertising, fashion design, graphic design and interior design students, all using brand new, dedicated studio spaces.

From training the next generation of teachers and carers, to campaigning for the future of our society and environment, Francis Close Hall has a lot to be proud of. It may be 150 years old but Francis Close Hall is home to state-of-the-art bioscience and geography labs, psychology virtual reality suites, forensic interview rooms, and illustration and landscape architecture studios.

FRANCIS CLOSE HALL AND HARDWICK, CHELTENHAM Just a short walk from Francis Close Hall, Hardwick is dedicated to art and photography, with studios, darkroom, mac suites and sculpture yard.


10 Oxstalls Your Open Day

OXSTALLS,, GLOUCESTER - 25 minutes’ walk from Gloucester city centre and railway station

Open from September 2018, our brand new Business School at Oxstalls is the new home for the expanded Growth Hub, where students get to work and study with real businesses looking to grow and develop. Complementing our existing sports labs and fitness suites, the brand new sports park (open from September 2018) includes an international standard sports hall, 3G pitches and cricket pavilion. Our dedicated Performing Arts and Events Centre comes fully equipped with a harlequin sprung floor, full lighting rig and sound, an acoustically designed music and singing room and a multimedia studio. Our purpose-built nursing suite means that when our students go on placement, they already feel comfortable in a professional, clinical setting.

Our Accommodation Your Open Day

As well as seeing the accommodation we offer on campus, you can also find out about our Pittville Student Village in Cheltenham (which opened 2017). Discover more about Blackfriars, our brand new development in partnership with Cityheart in Gloucester city centre (open from September 2018) offering approximately 300 bedrooms with a mixture of townhouses, en-suite rooms in cluster flats and self-contained studios.
