The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Equine Business is the only one of its kind offered by an institution accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the premier business school governing body. The certificate in equine business is available to persons who have earned a four-year degree and are seeking specialized training in equine business.
The most successful and satisfied people have been able to tie their careers to their passions. Some know early in life what they want to do. Others take dramatic turns later in life. At the University of Louisville, we’ve created the nation’s only accredited online certificate in equine business to serve those whose passion is horse-related. The certificate program is for you if... • You want to enter the equine industry with an in-depth understanding of business principles and their application to horse industry enterprises • You have earned a four-year degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a regionally accredited institution • You want to attend a premier college of business
Careers in Equine Business can be exciting, challenging, and rewarding. As the effects of competition, market saturation, and declines in foal production impact equine enterprises, the need for business-trained professionals with expertise in the equine industry to operate these companies is increased. The opportunities for employment are as varied as the students pursuing the major and encompass numerous occupations. Graduates of the program are working as equine insurance adjusters, bloodstock agents, race track employees, farm managers, equine product salespersons, and employees for breed and racing organizations.
You will earn your certificate in just 14 months, taking only one class at a time each six-week term. This flexible format gives you more time to focus on class material, as well as opportunities to spend time with family and to continue to pursue your career. The program is cohort based and has only one entry point each year. Admission to the Equine Certificate Program is available to begin only in the summer semester. There are numerous choices for post-secondary education, and the University of Louisville Program is not for everyone. It is based on a perspective that most firms in the horse industry struggle or fail not because their owners or managers did not know enough about horses, but rather because they didn’t know enough about business. As a consequence, the emphasis of UofL’s teaching, research and service is not on management of horses but rather on management of horse businesses. This is why it is frequently stated, with pride, “When it comes to horses, UofL means business.”
