October is LGBT History Month! LGBT Month originated in the United States and it was founded by Rodney Wilson and first celebrated in 1994. Wilson picked October because it coincided with October 11 which is National Coming Out Day, was already widely known, and commemorated the first march on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi sexual Equal Rights and Liberation in 1979. LGBT History Month is designed to encourage honesty and openness about being LGBT. Equality Forum, a national and international LGBT civil rights organization, took responsibility for LGBT Month in 2006. Each day, an Icon is featured with a video, biography, bibliography, downloadable images and other educational resources at October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and to raise money for research. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. You can visit to learn more about NBCAM and the organizations that participate. IMPORTANT ACADEMIC DATES
