Somalia UN Entities 

United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), Acting on the recommendations of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Security Council decided on 2 May 2013 to establish the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) by 3 June for an initial period of 12 months, providing the United Nations “good offices” functions — and a range of strategic policy advice — in support of the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation process.

United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS): UNPOS was established on 15 April 1995 to advance the cause of peace and reconciliation through contacts with Somali leaders, civic organizations and the States and organizations concerned. UNPOS completed its mandate on 2 June 2013.

 
