MINE RESCUE TEAMS COMPETE IN 2011 SAFETY OLYMPIAD

The 25th Annual Safety Olympiad kicked off Thursday July 8, 2011 at the Elko Convention Center signaling the opening day of the three-day training competition. Thirteen teams from Nevada and Wyoming competed with two teams observing, a Rio Tinto team from California and a Marigold Mine team from Nevada. Thursday’s events at the convention center began with awareness lessons, rather than the traditional Fun Day events. On Friday, the teams traveled to the FSA to begin competitions that lasted through the evening. The teams competed in a variety of station scenarios at the FSA. The competing teams were graded on their performance during the rescue scenarios. The 2011 Safety Olympiad culminated Saturday at the convention center ending with an awards banquet. This year’s 2011 Safety Olympiad was sponsored by Round Mountain, the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority and the Nevada Mining Association.
