BOLDNEWAMBITIONS Weston Park Cancer Charity CEO Samantha Dixon tells unLTD all about the charity’s ‘bold five-year ambition’ What’s changing? Weston Park Cancer Charity has launched a new brand identity, along with a bold five-year ambition to support more patients and families than ever. The new brand also brings together the charity and the cancer support centre (who we merged with last year), where many of the charity’s support services are delivered. Why change? It’s really about uniting us all – the charity, support centre and the hospital. Everything we do, from supporting patients, to funding lifesaving research or equipment is a joined-up effort to help everyone live the best possible life with and beyond cancer. We are all in it together when it comes to helping patients, so it makes sense for our brand to unite us too. The closer we work together

Every year Weston Park Cancer Charity raises more than £2 million just to keep going. It’s thanks to fundraisers and donors that we can deliver three key strands of work: • We enable research – funding vital research and clinical trials that are saving lives; • We provide support – in many forms, from group activities and social events to benefits advice, pamper sessions to a friendly chat, for patients, their families and even to hospital staff and volunteers, both at our support centre in the community; • We enhance treatment – by improving facilities, making wards look and feel better and offering complementary therapies like massage, to help patients feel better. That’s how we achieve our overarching goal, to actively care in every sense for the patient and the people around them. the more we can raise and the further that funding can reach. What do you hope to achieve? Being there at every step means finding new ways to reach and help anyone touched by cancer. Over the next years, the charity’s

strategic plan includes directly helping a total of 47,000 cancer patients and relatives – that’s an increase of more than 50 per cent on current numbers. Why the increase? One in two of us will develop

cancer, so it’s fair to assume we will all be affected directly or indirectly by cancer in our lifetimes. We serve more than 1.3 million people, so that’s a lot of support, care, treatment and help our charity has to be ready to deliver. How will you achieve this? It’s a serious joint effort, made possible by the whole Weston Park family – hospital, support centre, charity staff and volunteers, our tireless fundraisers donors and supporters, as well as every patient, family member and friend we’ve helped. For one in two of us, cancer will become a reality. You can help us be ready for anyone who needs us. Go to westonpark.org.uk to see how you can get involved and help us to be there at every step.
