Driving up non-regulated income and reducing the overall cost base 3. Delivering high quality student learning and enhancing student employability 4. Improving the student and staff experience

Our Mission Supporting innovation in teaching, learning and learner development

To achieve this we will: Inform, advise and share practice in relation to technology-based teaching, learning and learner development Provide services and an environment to enable creative and flexible approaches to teaching and learning Work with staff to develop and embed practice in technology-based teaching and learning Support staff and students to develop academic practice and skills

In 2012-13 we will  Roll out moodle2  Re-launch the Green Room as a social learning space for students and staff and a base for Learning Services activities  Develop Learning Services web pages and other web communications  Contribute to piloting Refworks referencing management tool  Use a range of new approaches to promote our services

Learning Services Enabling innovation in teaching, learning and learner development

Work with academic staff to develop approaches to teaching and learning This means we will:  Identify and share information about technology-based learning  Undertake and support projects and pilot activities to inform practice  Embed effective and sustainable use of learning and assessment technologies and online resources

Encourage the development of academic, digital and emerging literacies This means we will:  Identify and share information about emerging skills and literacies  Use a variety of creative approaches to developing and embedding skills and literacies  Seek feedback on the approaches we use to ensure they are effective

In 2012-13 we will  Undertake projects to embed online marking using Turnitin  Explore the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and iTunesU  Work with academic staff to take advantage of new features in moodle 2, e.g. for student performance monitoring, accessing OER  Pilot use of iPads in teaching and learning scenarios  Further develop use of web conferencing; e.g. Webex, Skype  Work with academic departments to review existing approaches to student mentoring and pilot alternatives  Support academic programmes to embed academic and digital literacies within the curriculum 6

 Extend training provision for staff and students, focussing on embedded approaches where appropriate  Explore new approaches to training including online methods, e.g. Webex, Skype and virtual chat  Review existing approaches to individual and small group support, trialling different approaches  Use Eventbrite to promote and manage training sessions and other events  Provide information about the training and support we offer through a variety of means including; Learning Services web pages, blog and Twitter

In 2012-13 we will  Ensure Learning Services is represented in meetings and groups across the University and externally  Work with others in relation to projects, organisational changes and in preparation for the QAA institutional review  Co-ordinate and support activities related to new learning, teaching and curriculum developments including distance and blended learning  Work with others to improve processes e.g. Moodle administration, electronic assessment and feedback, personal tutoring, student performance monitoring  Work with others to make the support we offer seamless  Produce an annual report summarising our activities
