For family and friends Accommodations and dining We recommend booking local accommodations early, as hotel and dining reservations are in high demand and are often booked months before Commencement. A list of dining options and local hotels is available at www.redlands.edu/dining-and-accommodations.

Dress for Commencement The Commencement ceremony will take place outside at the Alumni Greek Theatre. Commencement day is usually warm, and there is no shade. Comfortable, low-heeled shoes are recommended as there is a considerable distance (some of it unpaved) between event locations, and the Alumni Greek Theatre has limited handrails and unevenly spaced steps.

Refreshments For your convenience, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase near the Alumni Greek Theatre, provided by the University’s Town & Gown organization.

University Bookstore hours For your convenience, the University Bookstore will have items available for purchase near the Alumni Greek Theatre. Friday, April 22, 2:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Lost and found Items should be claimed from or turned in to the Public Safety Office in Willis Center.

Parking and street closures—see map on page 14 Parking for the Commencement ceremony is available on the north side of campus. Follow the directional signs to Brockton Avenue and the designated parking areas behind Memorial Chapel, Armacost Library, Orton Center, or the Stauffer Science Complex off of Grove Street. On April 22 and 23, carts will be available from these lots to the Alumni Greek Theatre. Colton Avenue, the street through the center of the campus, will be closed to through traffic.

Disabled parking—see map on page 14 Due to limited ADA parking, disabled guests are encouraged to park in any of the designated lots. These lots will be staffed by parking attendants, who will guide guests to the Commencement carts. The carts will be available for guests during all three Commencement ceremonies and before and after the event. Please follow directional signs on the day of Commencement. If you or your guest requires specialized assistance beyond what is outlined, please call Amy Wilms, Assistant Dean of Academic Success & Disability Services, at 909-748-8069 by April 8, and we will work with you to meet your needs. Commencement Expectations Commencement and graduation ceremonies at the University of Redlands are the culmination of many years of hard work. It is a time for you, your family, and friends to recognize and honor your success! We ask for your help in making these events a positive experience for everyone. The graduation candidates, faculty, and guests all expect and deserve safe, orderly, and dignified ceremonies, and any misconduct would be an unwelcome disturbance. All U of R Commencement and graduation ceremonies are alcohol-, drug-, smoke-, vapor-, and tobacco-free. Graduation candidates and guests will not be permitted to consume or carry any drugs or alcohol at line-up or during the ceremony. Candidates are discouraged from displaying cap and gown décor that includes foul, lewd, or obscene language, references to alcohol or drugs, or defamation of any kind in consideration of all attendees, including minors. There will be zero tolerance for disorderly behavior, and graduation candidates and guests who are intoxicated or disruptive will not be allowed into the ceremony venue or will be escorted from the ceremony. Please help us celebrate the Class of 2022 Commencement and graduation ceremonies events respectfully!

For your planning and safety Please follow these tips to ensure that Commencement day is enjoyable for your graduation candidate and all who attend: → Face coverings will be required at all indoor events. We ask that you continue to make responsible decisions related to COVID-19. Please do not attend the ceremony if you are feeling ill. Additional information about CDC guidelines can be found here: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/ covid-by-county.html. → Due to space limitations, candidates are asked to limit the number of family and friends in the Alumni Greek Theatre for the Commencement ceremony to six people and to direct others to the tent on the Redlands Lawn, where the ceremony will be streamed live. → All indoor and outdoor events during Commencement weekend are non-smoking events. → Dress appropriately for the day. Most often, it is warm and sunny, with little shade provided in the Alumni Greek Theatre. Comfortable clothes and walking shoes are strongly recommended. → The stairs in the Alumni Greek Theatre are steep with limited handrails; high-heeled shoes are discouraged. → Strollers are not permitted in the Alumni Greek Theatre. Stroller parking is available at the back of the theatre. → No pets or emotional support animals are allowed in the Alumni Greek Theatre. → Umbrellas are not permitted in the Alumni Greek Theatre because they inhibit the sightlines of surrounding guests. In the event of rain, check for updates at www.redlands.edu/commencement. → No inflatables or large signs are allowed in the Alumni Greek Theatre or the grounds surrounding the theatre. → Aisles and entryways surrounding the Alumni Greek Theatre may not be blocked for any reason. → Limited disabled seating is available at the back of the Alumni Greek Theatre for guests with special needs; one companion may accompany each guest in the disabled seating area. This may mean that families will need to separate.
