The course is designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of marketing. It is relevant if you have already studied marketing and want to continue to develop your specialist knowledge, or if you are new to marketing having studied a degree in another subject. The course is grounded in real-world issues and provides the opportunity for you to put marketing theory into practice; through the use of live case studies, an online marketing simulation, and by encouraging you to enter marketing competitions such as the annual Institute of Direct & Digital Marketing (IDM) competition. We have a vibrant and diverse student learning environment, with a focus on meeting the creative and analytical challenges posed by modern marketing. Key areas of study include strategic marketing, integrated marketing practice, and behavioural analysis, with a choice of option modules in areas of international marketing and marketing communications. The dissertation enables you to research a marketing issue of your choice, allowing you to further specialise your knowledge, or pursue an area of marketing you’re passionate about.

Marketing Communications MSc

With communication technologies developing at an unprecedented rate, managing the interface between a business and its key stakeholders is an exciting and challenging role for marketers. The course has been designed to develop cutting edge expertise in marketing communications. It is theoretically robust with an emphasis on applied critical thinking and analysis. We seek to maximise your opportunity to put marketing and marketing communications theory into practice through the use of live case studies, an online marketing simulation and by encouraging you to enter marketing competitions such as the annual Institute of Direct & Digital Marketing (IDM) competition. As such, the focus of this course is the development of the applied marketing communications leaders of tomorrow.

This course places particular emphasis on the international dimensions of marketing; on both the need to adapt marketing strategies to international markets, and the practicalities of operating across different country markets.

You will find that our course is theoretically robust with an emphasis on applied critical thinking and analysis. Throughout the course, extensive use is made of contemporary international marketing problems. As such, the focus of this course is the development of the applied international marketing leaders of tomorrow. Management with Marketing MSc

During this course you will cover most of the essential core areas of business including marketing, finance, operations, people management and strategy. There are also a wide range of options available to tailor your study towards specific areas of interest.

The highlight of this course is the opportunity for you to study and research a topic area of your choice, either in the form of a dissertation or through an Applied Consultancy Project. This will allow you to get real work experience as you’ll be working with a company or organisation, and familiarising yourself with the work environment. We also offer a Professional Skills module to engage you with the practical application of management theory which could consequently enhance your personal and employability skills.

RESEARCH AT THE BUSINESS SCHOOL

The Business School combines a broad base of academic excellence and expertise with a focus on pioneering research that aims to make an impact on society and improve the way we live. Our submission to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework focused on three core themes: Responsibility, Business Improvement, and Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, delivered through dedicated Research Groups. Seminars run by visiting speakers, PhD students and staff, as well as an annual Business School Research Conference, all contribute to a lively research culture across the School. Research themes The Global Advances in Branding, Marketing and Innovation (GAMBI) research group has a strong focus on applied research in the key areas of marketing, branding and innovation that impact on both academic knowledge and professional practice. Our guiding vision is to conduct research that promotes excellence in marketing thought, innovation and application. We work with a variety of stakeholders to foster knowledge and leverage innovation. Reflecting the globally interconnected nature of business, the wider interdisciplinary nature of members’ activities is shown in their active participation in working with others to add to knowledge in meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, focused publications and research-led teaching.

Types of research In addition to a traditional PhD, you could also undertake a Master’s by Research; a one year, full-time research degree. It contains little or no formal taught component and is attractive if you want a briefer research-based degree or prepare for a full PhD.
