Course info

New technologies are transforming the way data is gathered, information is analysed and how businesses operate. Machinery in all industries now produces data on a big scale, and engineers need to know how to read this data and know what is it telling them.

Digital Manufacturing Engineering BEng(Hons)

A new generation of engineers are needed to bridge the gap between physical and digital industries and to manage advanced manufacturing and quality control systems. This new approach of reading and digesting the data from machines, will allow more responsive and efficient processes that deliver higher-quality products at reduced cost. This is the productivity that any manufacturer wants. Our course aims to create this new generation of engineer. It is a mix of mechanical and electrical engineering and computer science.

Example modules • Engineering Design and Manufacture • Mechanical Engineering Science • Manufacturing and Enterprise • Production Control Systems

Your future During your studies you have the chance to take a placement after your second year. You could work in the industry and put what you’ve learnt into practice. We’ll also give you the opportunity to join our student teams who take part in national events like the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Formula Student, Railway Challenge, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Challenge competitions (or comparable design and build team projects). You will work alongside fellow students from different engineering disciplines, which reflects how you will work in industry.
